When i connect to a server the lobby is blank

Recommended Posts

Last night I managed to connect and play my favourite ARMA2 server.

I wanted to post here the information on how the problem may be evaded.

(1) I believe, the core thing is to join the server as early as possible to reduce the number of people on the server. Seems, more people = less chances to load the mission.

(2) The server restarted 3 times at the very beginning. When it restarts everyone appear on the screen where you can choose the mission (and difficulty settings). At this screen I chose the mission name. At this point may be somehow the mission info was downloaded to me. When admins picked up the mission for the third time I appeared in lobby screen which contained all usual slots.

(3) Potentially, another method to overcome the problem is the following. When you join the server and appear in the “blank†lobby screen where you can not pick up the slot (because you do not see anything) you should do the following. Ask admin to drag and drop you name to the slot. Not sure may be it can help.

sigh... 4 weeks without arma2

Is this because the game dont start, or you only play MP and have trouble with servers,

cuz your missing a whole another world outside of MP.

Just noticed this. i joined an insurgency server thati dont normally join. once the game loaded and started. (im the only one on the server) It brought up this error msg in the text area: YOU ARE MISSING THE FOLLOWING MOD CBA_MAIN.

That is the first time ive seen that error. I can play the mission no bother tho, has map loaded i can entre/exit vechs everything is 'normal'.

CBA_MAIN, thats very important to the operation of most missions isnt it? is it?

I for one think that may be the problem all along. Opinions please!

PS. i tried getting an admin to drag me to a slot within hours of the problem initialy appearing. Dosent work tho.

just for clarifacatioN, I AM RUNING NO MODS, I run the game via the OA CO shortcut as admin.

Oh, i was getting very bad fps yesterday. It turns out it was from lowering my shadow detail and turning post proccess off. So, 10k view distance v.high AA/AF OBJECT DETAIL etc at 1920x1200 res runs at 50/60fps easily compared to all normal settings with same res but lower view distance running at around 14/20ish fps. What gives?

PROBLEM SOLVED WITH CBA DOWNLOAD.

Ya your missing CBA, thats required for most addons and mods, get it here:

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6231

Cti works :bounce3:

Thank you Günter Severloh for all the help, appreciated.

Still wondering WTF had happened and how the hell it persisted thru formats and reinstalls! could it be a slightly scratced arma2 dvd? wasnt the weather, its consistantly shitty lol.

Ausome man!

its possible that when it was installed before that either CBA wasn't in your target line or,

you had missing files as you did, if you did a reformat then there would be nothing on the disk,

reformat would wipe out even the hardest to remove viruses, and thats in

fact a way to remove them if you have one, and cannot remove em by any other means.

If and when you ever have to do an unintall, do the automatic way then also go into your main

directory and delete the addons, dta, folders.

unless of course you have mods you dont want to reinstall, and you know work then just delete

the addons folder, which should be deleted automaticall with the uninstaller, but just in case.

As for the target line as I said in my Pm, make sure CBA is first:

@CBA;@CBA_A2;mod;mod, ect.,

from the readme:

For Combined Operations (ArmA II and Arrowhead installed together):

-mod=@CBA

For a standalone Operation Arrowhead:

-mod=@CBA;@CBA_OA

For ArmA II only (people without Arrowhead):

-mod=@CBA;@CBA_A2

LOL, ok the problem has re-appered! the only change i had made was to use yoma to dl landtex and matchfix. When i tried the @CBA in the commandline(or activated thru game in expansions) nearly all servers were unjoinable. stating @cba was not found download file or key bla bla.. So the way i got it to work yesterday was just to have the @cba folder in my arma main folder and it worked!! i then used yoma to re-download warfx, glt flir and elias sound all of which worked on a public server which i usally play on. But today after i dl'd and loaded the landtex it was back to the same problem. I replaced the @cba folder with a new copie; tried enabling then disableing it. even without any mods running the problem is still there.

going to clear mpmission cache etc to see what happens.

So thats twice now it happend literally a boot from working the previous night.

any ideas?

This issue still intermittently annoys the hell out of me.

The issue originally was caused by a defect fiber converter that has now been replaced. And it worked fine for a while. but now its back. And the game works approximately only every other Monday and every date dividable by 9. Or there abouts.

What could cause the game to not receive the multiplayer setup screen?

The problem seems to be fixed for me. I didnt actually do much tho. Here's how things went.. I took my pc to a friends house with my wireless modem i use. Arma worked no bother. When i tried arma when i was back at mine it was the same shit all over.

So what i was figureing was that maybe it was the mast that i connect to!!

So a few days ago i went and tried the game again at my friends house (my pc). it worked again no bother, but this time when i tried to play online (CTI) at my house it worked and has been working for nearly a week now!!!

Before i went to my friends house the second time with my pc i had a chance to speak with someone who works in a fone shop, told him the problem and i suggested that the settings on the mast that id connect to has been changed (when arma went haywire, my connection got far better!)

He said 'thats imposible!', but he claimed to believe me.

So, it was either a case of trying it on a different connection to fix it! (dunno)

or he contacted the company he works for, which is the same company my isp is. I couldnt change DMZ or any kind of advanced settings as i use a modem not a router.

If i had to guess id say the problem lays with the isp's

I bumped into the same problem, and scratching my head..

I just moved, took my whole PC with the games installed, set it up at my new place, and bamm: on some dedicated servers (including our clan server) i get either blank or partial lobbies (either no playable slots are available, or they're fewer than there are supposed to be, wrong slot description compared to what's in the mission). Other symptoms: mission is re-downloaded every time, even if the correct version already exists in both missions cache and MPMission folder. After mission download it just hangs there with "Receiving data". Some missions also give "[scriptFile].sqf not found" errors - scripts that should be in the newly re-downloaded mission

On our server i was able to #login but #missions didn't bring up the mission selection screen. I'm stumped.

As far as i can tell, the only thing that changed was my internet connection (ADSL -> "Fiberlink", i'm guessing fiberoptics, PPPoE, single UTP wire with RJ45 connector, no modem or router, username/pass authentication when connecting).

My screen also changed, resolution, etc.. but i can't imagine it's related.

Other than that it's the old configuration. I have WinXP, turned off the firewall (Commodo), still the problems persist. Tried with both beta and stable release, with mods and without (both client and server). No change.

I also suspect the ISP, some communication issue, faulty NAT or port forwarding - but since i have no physical modem/router to tinker with, what could i do? Any ideas, tips would be appreciated.

------------------------------

Update: called my ISP, they said no ports are blocked except for 25, i should be fine. Then i remembered my current subscription also came with a free USB mobile net modem. Which i tried, managed to connect and it all worked fine. Then, as i reverted to my Fiberlink thingy (was trying a trick: connect with the crappy modem, then see if i could switch to broadband on the go), surprise, surprise, no problems there either. Still haven't figured out what the glitch was - and now i may never figure it out, but hope the above info might be helpfull to someone.

I also suspect the ISP, some communication issue, .

Confirm.

It is internet connection issue

I live with this problem for 3 months now

solution:

1) most solid. change internet service provider

2) if option 1 is not available. when you connect to server and lobby is blank - you should wait. wait, wait. it may download in 3-10 minutes

I've your same problem, with my Wifi connection, with HDSL works fine but now I can't no more use both connection, so I can't play ArmA,

this problems is related to signature check of mission and UDP protocol.

I'm really sad, I've to leave arma due to this problem, I can't use different connection.

I hope that Bis will fix that with new patches, with a different system of file check, maybe next upcoming 1.59 ?

I hope,

Don't change nothing on your pc don't waste time, it's connection problem.
