Accessing OA through Steam (also: Hi)

Recommended Posts

Hello, people. I'm... uh, back. Been away for 7 years. After the laugh that was OFP2, ARMA2 called me in for a proper experience. Can't wait to mod my game to shit and have fun in mp :D No gaming developer like BIS, no community following like BIS's.

THE ISSUE, however, is this: I've just downloaded the CO package (€39) from Steam. I installed A2:OA first, and then Arma2, then OA again I think. It works, but it's not -combined-. Maps aren't shared. I can't find the expected CO executable. Where Steam has my apps/games, there's only OA and Arma2.

When I r-click OA and select Launch Combined Operations, it's only OA.

Halp?

Actually I just r-clicked OA, launched CO, and everything is shared. :D

Well then. Uhm. Question! Does steam update -everything- for me, meaning both updates to server and clients? Or is this not OFP, where we had a patch every month (bless you BIS)?

Has anyone else gotten their Arrowhead or Arma2 to work via Steam yet? I'ts been going on 3 days for me now and while something huge seems to have downloaded on Arrowhead last night it is still not working. Wont' launch and I get some error about not being able to contact key servers?

Slyder: Try Verifying Integrity of Game Cache?

SCAJolly: Steam will update what ever BIS sends them to update with. At some point BIS may decide to release a patch that removes the disc check altogether which will mean Steam will no longer receive patches (or need to be running while Arrowhead is running, be sure to turn off the autoupdater) until BIS thinks it will be necessary (they will circumvent your autoupdater apparently and the game will update anyways), to which even if you have Steam you will have to patch manually like the retail/sprocket users do.

if you have problems

exit STEAM

run STEAM as admin

validate cache of all products related

(e.g. in case of A2: CO it's both ARMA 2 and ARMA 2:OA afterward start first ARMA 2 and exit, then ARMA 2: OA)

and if you have our new DLC then also check integrity of it ARMA 2: BAF
