Quick question about hardware

Recommended Posts

Found out about this game a few weeks ago and now I can't stop thinking about it. After looking at the minimum system requirements there was a bit of disappointment because my system's hardware isn't really up to standard (this stuff goes obsolete quick!). Anyway.. I know the requirements say a dual core processor is needed, but will it still run on a single core? Here are my system specs:

Intel P4 3.0ghz (non-OC'd single core)

2GB DDR Crucial RAM

512mb DDR2 ATI HD4350

500GB HD, 7200 rpm

I hope that's enough for you guys to make an assessment! I don't expect to get a badass fps on this rig, but at least something half-decent (say 15-30 fps?). Not exactly sure where my gfx card stands in the way of gaming, but I was told it was a pretty good shot. Let me know if I've missed any other system specs!

It Wont run like crap, I got a

AMD 2.4 cpu,

window xp

2gigs of ram

nvidia geforce gtx 260, and my game runs fine,

only thing you need to concern yourself with this

game is your cpu which is fine and your graphics card

which im not 100% on, your ramm is fine.

Get the demo and see how it runs that will be the true test.

Arma 2 demo

http://www.arma2.com/demo/arma-2-demo_en.html

other demos are on the same site.

edit:

you have a 4000 series ati card which is upper mid range seen here:

Desktop Graphics

* ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 5000 Series

* ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4000 Series graphics

* ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 3000 Series graphics

* ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 2000 Series graphics,

your game should run ok, what is your operating system?

Using Windows XP Pro sp2. I heard it runs like a beaten dog on Vista, so I'll refrain from installing it. :j:

No, 4350 is NOT a upper mid range card.

its entry level. last generation.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php compare the score here with something like a 5850, which is a reasonably priced upper mid range card. Also note that the gtx260 which gunther mentions has a score over SIX times higher than a 4350.

and a single core p4? cmon.

But hey, dont take my word for it. Try the demo.

Hey, hey.. easy there! :icon_razz:

This single core here has served me well for a while. I don't consider myself an avid gamer, so that got the job done for me playing games like BF1942 and BF2142. Buying ArmA II is like my first ball game lol. Maybe I'll buy a dual core rig near x-mas to catch the discount specials and when college winds down a bit. ... single cores have feelings too!

Hi and welcome Atned,

Its truly an amazing game and its the only one I've been playing constantly since the original (OFP) came out in 2001

This thread will be locked as it supposed to be posted HERE

But before it does I'll say that you spec is minimal I'm afraid.

It will probably run but on low settings only and with not many AI.

You have to understand that this game is nothing like BF2, COD etc. Its a simulator and the AI are real unlike other games where the AI already know where its safe to shoot from etc. You need multi-core because the calculations are split to different cores and even then lots of AI activity will slow down an i7. I'd suggest an HD5870 or GTX260 as minimal for good graphics settings.

Best thing you can do is try the demo as Tim suggested. (the latest version of the full game runs a bit better)

We have a sticky thread called "Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications." on top of this forum, why you don't use that for your question?

How many more of these threads we need, cluttering the forums even more and make people who bother to use the search function check each of this threads to get an answer.

And no it will not run on a single core when the minimum specs say dual core. :rolleyes:
