Mission Idea

Hey all im getting the hang of using the editor so i was thinking about making a post-apocalyse type mission where you start out with minimal equipment and maybe a small base/camp and have to scavange for the rest and such and i have a few ideas for now and wondering if its doable.

My Goals:

-some type of construction vehicle has to be found to build basic fortifications. The fortifictions have to be built near the truck.

-towns might be randomly occupied by their own citizens and militia and will defend it against all outsiders, some towns might have a functional garage for repairs or a medical facility of some kind.

-once and awhile a random faction soldier could spawn at your base and could be recruited.

-random calls over your radio from unknown troops asking for some assistance, and if helped could join you.

-random radio call from a town asking for help and if objective is completed that town will be friendly towards you.

-jerry can or some other container that could be carried incase your vehicle runs out of fuel.

These are some of my ideas for now your thoughts are welcome,thanks.

Short answer to whether or not they're doable, in order:

-yes

-yes to all

-yes

-yes, with extra effort

-probably

-yes

It's interesting, so it would be somewhat open-ended/free-roam then right? Or would it be alongside a main story? It would definitely require some time and lots of scripts. You'll have to learn how to write SQF scripts also, not just be proficient in the editor. It isn't hard if you're willing to learn. There are plenty of great resources.

Thanks for the reply and yup open-ended/free-roam, i like the thought of having to scavenge off the land and enemies and throw in some random vehicles that need to be repaired and fueled to use. No planes though maybe get lucky and find a chopper,or perhaps a tank. :)

Those are some good, if challenging, goals. I've played quite a few missions which were longer term and I wished the mission editor had put in things like jerry cans and gave more thought to salvage and scavenging. :)

Then again most players just want A-10s and Apaches and unlimited ammo. :(

Thanks :) im not even sure where to begin hehe, im sure ill have plenty of questions to ask in the coming days ahead :o . Maybe ill start with the construction vehicle first.

I did a little work with carrying a fuel can, it worked well for Civs until they dive to the ground.

The problem comes when you have a weapon, where do you carry the can as you can't shoulder the weapon.

I suppose when you pick the can up it could remove the weapons and you could place one in his other hand just like carrying the case. It does start to get complicated.

For this i was kind of thinking since you or another squad mate will be carrying the jerry can it will be quite heavy so maybe no rifles just a side arm or no weapon at all then you could just have your squad mates guard you. :) Oops i ment to ask what you did with the jerry can.

Thanks ill look into this some more, looks like some things might fit into my senario, im planning on using the chernarus map. :)

I hate being a such newb but im learning as i go,ive only had arma 2 now for a couple weeks and got it for the editing aspect of it, how would i go about starting doing these first 2 goals, do i need to use the warfare module and civilian module ? im still trying to figure out all the modules, i dont know much about scripting, im really not sure what to use to get this to work, but a point in the right direction or some friendly feed back will be most welome. :)
