Recommended Posts

heres how i understand it

chedaki rise

CDF steadily overrun

CDF hold central chernarus but crumble in south zagoria (where the game takes place) and are driven into electrozavosk

MEU lands and wipes chedaki out as a convential force

chedaki bomb red square and make it look like napa bombings

russians roll in

razor left behind when starforce 21 shot down

but heres wut i dont understand: how are the CDF suddenly at war with the russians...shouldnt they be like...cooperating...i never understood the political situation with the Cherns and the Russians

"§21) Do not post campaign spoilers outside of the "Official Mission" forum.

If you need to discuss specifics of an official campaign mission outside of the official missions forum , for example to gain troubleshooting help in the troubleshooting forum, you must use the spoiler button spoiler.gif to hide the spoiler from those people who don't want to see it, spoiling the campaign for other forum members may result in an immediate ban from the forums."

You should probably spoiler tag all of that. Not everyone has played the campaign.

I took it as the CDF viewed it as an invasion. They never asked for Russia's help and it would seem that the Russians were helping the Chedaki up until the point that you hand over Lopotev.

@Placebo: I didn't make the quote mistake this time. I'm so proud of myself.

Yeah I always had the same question actually...

Why are the russians viewed as OPFOR?

the whole political situation of the russians, chedaki, and CDF was never really explained

CDF and Russians are supposed to be on the same side. Russians are supposed to be fighting NAPA. CDF the Chedaki. but Russia supports the Chedaki...i wish it was explained better.

why does Chernarus not have the choice of rejecting the Russian peacekeepers. and is it me or are the CDF alot tougher than they appear?

Here's how I understood it (and what I used as a basis for my campaign, more or less):

Chedaki and NAPA are both partisan forces causing political and social turmoil in Chernarus thanks to their two radical leaders, Lopotev and Prizrak.

Both begin comitting war crimes, but the Chedaki grow much stronger than NAPA and thus present more of a threat to the current Chernarussian government (presumably Democratic?).

Chedaki wage war against the CDF and cause them to lose control over South Zagoria. CDF forces are also overwhelmed on the island of Utes off the Chernarussian coast. Utes is important to the CDF (dunno why, but it seems to be. Probably a good port or airbase given the island's makeup) and request the USMC help them retake it, which they do. I'm guessing that's sort of what War Welcome is meant to be.

USMC then land on Chernarus in the mission Amphibious Assault. The Marines help the CDF retake the important coastal cities (Chernagorsk, Elektrozavodsk, etc.).

Chedaki start to lose, therefore they carry out the Moscow bombing and the Chedaki somehow manage to produce evidence framing NAPA as the perpetrators. Russia sees Chernarus as being out of control, and requires an intervention with Russian forces.

Russia opens a debate at the UN on the subject as to whether or not the USMC presence is actually helping or making things worse. The bombing indicates to the UN that it's getting worse, and USECOM hand over control to the Russians, forcing the Marines to withdraw entirely (aside from Razor of course).

Manhattan is destroyed because the Americans were given an ultimatum to withdraw, which they followed, and the Russians were brainwashed by the Chedaki into believing NAPA agents were posing as Marine personnel. Just so happens that actual Marines were caught in the attack (Sabre). Since the Americans aren't actually meant to be on Chernarus, Russia is now considered OPFOR.

Russia fights the CDF because they seem to not want to hand over Prizrak to them, and would rather have him in their own custody. Again, Russia takes this as a threat to their own security with such a closely neighbouring country seemingly being uncooperative with them.

Eventually Lopotev is captured and willingly handed over to the Russians, evidence of the war crimes committed by the Chedaki is recovered (presumably by Razor throughout the campaign) and the Russians apologize and withdraw, presumably helping with the recovery of the country. The Marines are then allowed to redeploy to Chernarus to help as well.

To me, this seems the most likely interpretation, though there are still a few plotholes. :p

@zipper

You forgot about the part with the rogue Spetsnaz team. The attack on Manhattan was them trying to find and kill Razor team to try to cover up the war crimes which I guess they helped commit or the cover up benefited them in some way. That's why the Saber team guy tells you that there were Russian Spetsnaz knifing everyone and asking about Razor Team. Those Spetsnaz guys wanted to go into Chernarus. That's why they tried to rescue Lopotev and killed the normal Russian soldiers.

maybe the russians werent convinced by lopetev and the evidence but were forced to pull out for political reasons and the moscow bombings were staged by the russian government. maybe the chedaki is their future puppet state

So the Russians planted the evidence indicating it was Lopotev so that the Americans would find it and send it to the UN/Russians? That doesn't make much sense to me. I think that Lopotev did it to gain support and that it eventually backfired on him.
