AI refuses to do anything (A2+A2OA)

Recommended Posts

Sometimes it's one soldier, sometimes the whole team and it usually happens after I'm healed or after loading. They won't regroup, move, engage or anything until I'm injured and another AI is commanding them. This has totally ruined many good missions. Nothing I do seems to work, so is there any way I can go around this problem?

Sorry for bumping on this old tread, but it's exactly what I was searching for.

I was wondering if there's some explanation to this AI behaviour.

Only thing I can add is that in those cases AI kneel down and extract their side arms. Often I can unlock them saluting them (they salute in response and then are operative again) but doesn't work always. Any hint?

Sadly 1.54 horrible bug. Try the beta patches to solve this, or stick to 1.52 like me.

Sounds like you are suffering from the pistol bug in the game, where the AI become immovable when they draw their pistols. BIS are aware of the issue, and I'd imagine a fix will be coming in future patches.

Until then, if you are able to edit the mission(s), you can script it so that the AI don't have pistols via the removeWeapon and removeMagazine commands in conjunction with the weapon and magazine classnames, which you can find here. You might also be able to teamswitch to the affected units (the default key is "T") and sort them out yourself, either making them drop their pistols or switch their weapon back to their primary.

Ha yes, the infamous pistol bug (was thinking of the "refuse to do anything when in danger mod" thingy). It does exist in 1.52 too.

A pistol bug, great :D.

I'm running ArmA2 standalone DVD patched to 1.05.

Do you expect a patch fot this that doesn't remove tank recoil like 1.07?

I must try with weapon and magazines removal.......

By the way, can I switch units if not playable? If so it's opening a great horizon to me :butbut:

Thanks

The units must be set to playable for them to be able to be switched to when playing. A patch is probably coming soon to fix the pistol bug if BIS manage to isolate and fix it, but I can't promise anything. As to whether or not the tank recoil will be fixed, I don't know.

it just sounds like the AI is ignorant, you should discipline them.

jking, lol!! I don't know what to do about this, have you tried a re installation?

Re-Installs don't fix bugs. Don't even bother with that.

You don't know that, for all we know... he could had replaced some important core files. Or, there could be an argument in his game script. There is a wild variety of possibilities, so we should try to narrow it down as much as we can. Re-installing the game will fix any screwed up system sync files and unorganized bs that has been changed. Bugs and glitches do not pop up this easily without SOME evidence of change.

The original poster's issue was from way back, just after OA's release. He was referring to the release bug with Arma 2 where the AI would stop working after loading a save game. This has since been fixed.

For the record, reinstalling would not have helped. :p

Thank you all.

In more than a year I reinstalled it several times, with the patches of the moment and on XP 32bit and W7 64bit changing grafic card and drivers. As far as I can remember the issue was always there. Should I suppose that some of you don't have it? I'm not sure but think it happens during gameplay as well and not only on reloaded game. Now that I focus, maybe it happens with some mods as Pedagne or maybe in custom mission with switchable units.....or maybe because that units have side arms.

What about units locking to objects? Sometimes units can't move as if they are glued to some pixel: buildings, stairs, bunkers and so. It seams they can't find the exit. Is it possible that is something related to the other issue? the symptom is the same.

Can help the fact that saluting seams a cure?

I have the same problem, Units get "glued" to a spot and wont reform, - usually while in "danger" mode. Cannot remove "danger" mode because enemy is in close proximity. RESULT:Medic cannot move, IE: Game over.

So when the bullet magnet medic is NOT full of holes...he sticks to the ground like glue and wont reform or follow any commands...this also happens to other members of my team at contact with enemy.

Vanilla game, OA, fully patched to 1.54(?). NO MODS.

EDIT: Upon further reflection I must admit I haven't seen this problem since the latest patch.
