need xml help!

hey guys sorry if this is the wrong section for this sort of thing but this xml is driving me round the bend. trying to sort out my squads xml and custom emblem but no luck :(

I have my custom xml file generated which i then uploaded to http://rapidshare.com/files/408943748/squad.xml and then put that link into the squad url of my character to no joy, also the picture i have aswell, what do i do with that, do i upload that, leave it on my machine or what. its a 512x512jpg, and if this needs to be hosted aswell where can this be done.

Any one with help to a solution is greatly appreciated.

You need the logo in the same place, and it needs to be .PAA 2^n format.

You also need your UID added to it

The dimensions need to be a power of 2 and equal, but .paa is needed only if you want part of the logo to be transparent, otherwise .jpg will work.

Allow me to dissagree with you on some stuff:

1. PAA file will always work better since some GFX cards can't read JPG files properly, no matter if those are 2^n or not.

2. ArmaTech works fine indeed, but it also limits the amount of options one can display via XML. If one ones his own server, it is way easier to host XML on your own

You need a hotlink to the file, I doubt ARMA 2 can download from Rapidshare or other hosting sites ;)

thanks for quick reply guys, unfortunatly arma tech does not host the logo i want , and i would just like the quick way to get this up and going , thanks for the info on paa, where else can i host this that i can have my own ppicture aswell?

idealy, on your on FTP space, on your own server.

It needs to be in a place where you can link a direct URL for it.

There are some free FTP hosts around the web IRC, with limited space, granted, but you don't need more than a few megs anyways

Megaupload and alike will put a download link for you. You need direct access to it.

IE: http://www.kellys-heroes.eu/squad/OA/squad.xml. The PAA is in the same folder (wwroot\OA\)

Allow me to dissagree with you on some stuff:

Always welcome to disagree, Pufu.

The OP is clearly new at creating a squad.xml files - I was not giving the best way, just something to get him up and going.

Jpg will work, paa offers superior features. But it is a pain to generate - requiring multiple tools and not super-clear instructions.

Armatech does allow you to upload new images to add to the available list, you just post it on their forums and they move it to the available area. Then you can build your entries for the squad.xml via their web interface. Pufu is correct in that it does not support everything you could do by hand, but if all you want is a tag for your team and shoulder-patch/vehicle-decals it works just fine.

There are other sites as well, I just mention this one since I'm familiar with it and know it works well for newbies.

if you are looking for a host for your .xml you might want to check out fileave.com. altough it does not support .paa only jpeg (uploading paa wil disble account?+no support). I tell you this because i had no luck with the two official arma hosters from wiki!
