froggyluv 2136 Posted November 19, 2009 One thing that has always kinda bugged me about the AI is their seeming inability to keep their body oriented to the primary threat at hand. For instance, if an AI is shooting at me when I behind cover or at a window in close range, he will often turn his whole body to another direction when I should be his primary concern. The same happens with friendly AI: When we are under fire from only one known direction, my guys should not be facing out towards the ocean or in the exact opposite direction as the threat. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the AI in OFP would keep their body in the proper diresction of a threat but turn their heads from side to side more to look for other or secondary threats. Don't get me wrong, infantry AI overall is much improved but I think tightening this up would only better it.
maturin 12 Posted November 19, 2009 It's probably because of the 360 degree scanning behavior built into most stationary formations.
no use for a name 0 Posted November 19, 2009 ...and while everyone is firing on the same target you get flanked by the other guys you didn't see because no one was watching :p I think maturin is right...they scan for targets and cover sectors when engaged
froggyluv 2136 Posted November 19, 2009 Well I disagree. I'd rather have guys glancing left and right for flankers and occasionally get caught then have a gunman dead ahead at 12 o clock kill my squad who were facing everywhere but 12 o oclock. One complaint that we always hear about Arma2 is that the Ai sometimes runs around like a chicken and I think this is the culprit. It just makes the Ai seem disinterested or disaffected or something. If the only known threat is directly ahead, I'd like my guys to act like it. Maybe the scanning could be better calibrated for combat level or something. maturin 12 Posted November 19, 2009 I've never had your problem, but yes, headless chicken is the perfect way to describe their occasional behavior. I've had enemies charge me, see me, and keep running at some point ten meters to my left like they're going to club me with their rifle butt.
