According to this, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference if you are using Ubuntu instead of SteamOS/ Debian. What would be the advantage of Debian? Why not install SteamOS directly? I heard that Valve has made some patches for it (for example, the leds on the XBox360 Controller do work now, which is great). There might be a way to apply these patches into Debian though.

If you are playing on AMD Graphics, I wouldn't take a KDE-based Distribution (I know you initially planned) at the moment, as you might encounter FPS drops with it: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=fedora-23-desktops&num=1 I recently installed Manjaro (KDE Version), and performance in all games was significantly lower than with Gnome Shell, which I normally use. I'm using the AMD HD7950.

This is good news, thanks BI and VP! I tested the port yesterday and it's really well done, its playable on my older AMD card (HD7950) which usually has problems in many Linux ports. If you are using AMD and Catalyst, it works even better when you put the following to the starting options: --eon_disable_catalyst_workarounds I really hope that BI don't consider to drop this port if there isn't enough Linux users yet. I heard of some people who are interested, but won't buy until the situation is clear. And of course there will be more users when SteamMachines are released.

Is this another april's fool? ;) Anyway, thanks for sharing this project! I just received my boards from china (~4 Euro each), now I realized I'm missing the right cable. Will a standard cable with usb micro b adapter also do the job? Grüße aus der Lüneburger Heide!

@A3MP - ArmA 3 Map Pack - Additional Pack
frawo replied to alduric's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Modfolders should reside in "\Program Files (x86)\Steam/Steamapps\Common\ArmA 3\" or "\My Documents\Arma 3", but not in some "Addon"-folder. However, the modfolder itself should contain a folder named "addons". You can also use a launcher like PWS (http://play.withsix.com/), which does all this work for you. -
I think you discovered the the Pond/Waterline Bug. Can just be fixed by removing all ponds on the Map. I don't know about Clafghan, but for FATA there is a version without ponds here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=22057 (the AiA compatible version)

Anyone else having to use too many rounds to kill?
frawo replied to Frankdatank1218's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Apart from taking so many bullets I find it very annoying that AI recovers from hits too quickly. They're just doing some weird animation (looks like they are belching :eek:) and then shoot as good as ever. -
I'm getting 25-50 FPS in the campaign. Sometimes I have bad FPS even though there is no big battle going on. Very unpredictable ... If you open the menu, only the rendering part goes on. CPU threads are stopped, at least I believe so. That's why Frames usually go up in the menu. You can also measure this with tools like Fraps or MSI Afterburner.

So the correlation between viewdistance and performance will be gone with Mantle? Hmm, I highly doubt that ... And why does the performance in the Star Swarm Benchmark really explode with Mantle? It also is a battle simulation, similar to Arma in many aspects.

If no one bothers about new technology, how can it ever become standard? And where is our future then? Take me for a fool, but I don't want to be sitting here for the next 20 years, constantly buying windows bloatware just to get the latest DX. And always having in mind that my computer could do much better with another renderer ... So, why does Dice bother about Mantle, as they have an engine that runs incredibly good even without it? Just for the fun because they are rich? Oh, don't make me laugh!

I just signed up here to push this thread, like nedflanders suggested. I would like to see Mantle in Arma 3, too. Can't say anything about BF4, but my rig (i5 3470, 7950) showed an FPS increase off 53% on the Star Swarm benchmark when using Mantle instead of D3D. Pretty amazing! Somewhere I have read that the Mantle driver isn't yet optimized for my GPU, so it might get even better with future releases. I don't see any reason why this shouldn't possible with Arma 3, as the Star Swarm benchmark is similar to Arma - many units, much AI, and its CPU-limited aswell. Please correct me if I'm wrong with that, I'm not that technical.
