The Lost Brothers Mod Official Release thread for ArmA2/OA
Valken replied to miles teg's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Would be awesome if there was a mission or campaign similar to the events going in Syria and neighboring countries with this mod. -
Lags A Consequence Of Having A Populated Mission - Measures To Reduce It?
Valken replied to infiltrator_2k's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
There is a solution to this. You run the coop mission on a dedicated server process, on another Pc or on two of your current computer's cpu core. (Set affinity in Windows Task manager). Then leave the other 2 core for your own client use. The DS will then actually run all the AI, while you and your friends will only render your game and the few AI , if any, within your command. If no AI friendlies, then the DS server will manage all the AI, while offloading that from you and your friend's client. If the DS is still laggy, and if you have a more cores on the cpu, you can add a command to the mission script to allow the use of a HEADLESS CLIENT. Basically, added another client process without any gpu or sound, that looks like a fake user, to the game. You connect the HC to the server and the AI can be split between the DS and HC. Again, it would be best if you had a Quad core Pc running the DS on 2 cores, and the HC running on 2 core, on the same machine. Then you and your friends connect to the server while the DS + HC manages all the AI for you. All the best ARMA 2 servers are running this. Read here for more HC info: http://www.reddit.com/r/arma/comments/16nl5x/a_quick_n_dirty_guide_to_headless_clients_for/ -
Love the hardware. Wish they showed it on 4K resolution and should loaded the map files to run off a ramdrive with 64 GB of ram! That would be a total wet dream for ARMAholics!

Great but how do I add the repo source? I don't want to have to create yet another account on another website just to test drive the mod.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Valken replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I5 but you should read up how to OC it. The faster you can run the CPU, the better the game due to the AI running on a single thread. Faster cpu, more operations, smoother game. -
Operation Close Encounters (A2OA/ACE/Panthera/Alienz 1.1) - Thursday June 13, 2013
Valken replied to icebreakr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I saw a bump and thought it was sign up for the weekends! Drat!!! :D Waiting for your mod to A3 but a new mission or two for A2/CO would be nice to wait for proper porting tools to become available! -
I love this mod in ARMA 2, and would vote to just make it client side. Those who care about MP would not have to use it. Those who really want immersion, can enable it. While it would hinder TvT type games, SP or COOP would totally rule with full on effects.

Take a break and come back to it. We will be here waiting to play it when ready.

All in Arma (AiA) - TKOH/OA/A2/A1 merge with A3
Valken replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Not all of the old classic ARMA 2/OA or user made units have been ported yet. For me, I am using the old ARMA 2 units by moving the AiA_ActivateA3Models.pbo file from the core/addons folder into core/addons/_optional. This will disable the new A3 units, so you can still use all the old A2 units/mods. Just make sure you either copy the user made unit addons into the A3 folder or make a symboliclink (a fake shortcut that links the files from location into your current folder) from your ARMA2 unit folders into your A3 folder. -
Great update. Is is possible to enable AI so a dedicated coop server run the game when there are few players? It would help single players and low players keep the game going. When real players join, they can take over or just kick the AI out.

There are missions with this version, and a campaign, at least from the previous version.

COWarModACE Release thread
Valken replied to Gunter Severloh's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
@ Gunter and SpookyGnu! Thanks! I will try the light version. I wish someone could make a revised light version with the wall animations but this is good enough for now! -
[WIP] Combine Transhuman forces
Valken replied to digitalcenturion's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Tactical Half Life! I love it! Now we just need some real Hardcore Tactical HECU, Black Mesa Science Team, Ultra HD Black Mesa Facility map, zombies and combines to mix it all out. -
COWarModACE Release thread
Valken replied to Gunter Severloh's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hi Gunter, I had a question regarding parts of this mod. When using this mod, or COWarMod, and running, then I come to a full stop, the animations do not have a smooth stop transition when viewed from thirdperson. It appears the player model "lurches" forward one more step after you have let go of the forward button, then it stops fully. I noticed this even more so when I compare ARMA 3's new animations or transitions from running, loading the guns, side strafing and etc... Is it one of the SMK files? I would like the player to just fully stop when I let go of the run button, as there is about a half of second delay when switching to the stop position to target an enemy. That half of second is crucial in CQB or close range fire fights. -
Bare to the metal drivers would be a win for most games. It would be back to the old days such as 3DFX glide where you can max out the speed of the hardware without all the bloatware inbetween. OGL would be an awesome middle layer for anything non-AMD since Nvidia has incredible OGL drivers (way better than AMD) and it would make Mantle an awesome and viable experience crossplatform. But this would totally suck for legacy AMD/ATI GPU users from HD 6xxx series and lower since none of those are GCN architetures and AMD's OGL are behind the times. No OGL multithreading even today so best to stick with DirectX 11.x for AMD/ATI systems. I can only see this API going forward and barely providing any boost for games already out there, unless the games have modular driver support such as Unreal Engine or opensource applications including emulators and the like. For current ARMA 3, I think it would be worthwhile and even more beneficial to use OpenCL or even DirectCompute APIs for physics and AI offloading (to hardware GPU) more than anything else. That is probably where most of the performance issues are right now.

We just need some missions where the pesky embedded news reporter shadows an operations group in a situation, and the player has to protect the newsy and finish their mission at the same time! It would be like the ANTI-VIP game from Counter Strike. Do I let the pesky reporter get shot by the enemy or do I take them out myself so I can finish the mission? :D

The Undead Mod

Looking great! Just by chance have you looked at the DayZero dayz mod? It has different zombie sounds or variations of zombies that really make the game more lively. -
GTX TITAN SLI OC (2000€) = 30 / 25 fps
Valken replied to flowa91's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Wow! Can you post a picture of your rig and what kind of performance are you getting in ARMA 3? If it is not too messy to work with, I may consider it. Next paycheck of course. :P @ Flowa 91 Your PC is beautiful and fairly powerful. Makes my i5-760 @ 4 GHZ with 6950 CFX unlocked look so old and slow! Please do as the others have said and goto your Nvidia Control Panel and set your video cards to maximum performance. I did that when I was on Nvidia and it really does work for certain games. I think your CPU @ 4.4 GHZ is good enough but when you go into a town with a lot AI, let us know if your system slows down. How can you set tasks to certain cpu cores? Do you have a bat file example to share? Would be awesome for single playing ARMA players. -
HardOCP does some extensive ArmA 3 GPU testing
Valken replied to bangtail's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Good article on GPU scaling but you have to note they were using a 4.8 GHZ quad core cpu! That is not an average overclock! 4-4.5 GHZ is about where most PC gamers top out at. So regular users will probably see less performance even with top of the line video cards. I wish they did CPU scaling article. That would really help people configure the right system for ARMA 3. -
Release it!

In further testing of BIS and user made campaigns, it seems there may have been some lighting modifications done? In some a lot of missions, there are no streetlights or ambient lights during at night. But in ARMA2/CO, it would work. On example is playing Namalsk Campaign. I know it is supposed to be fairly dark, but it is so dark, I cannot see the light coming from the building next to the starting point or the moonlight lighting up the water. In A2/CO, it can be seen. In the Silent Hill SP user made mission, the light markers with ASC_EU_LIGHTS.pbo works in A2/CO, but not in A3 AIA. I am not sure if I have to adjust the light settings or not. Also, A2/CO vehicle headlights are missing. That is the headlight texture on the vehicles itself. The light beam projected from the vehicles actually work and looks fantastic compared to A2/CO, but there is no "light" turned on the vehicles itself. -
GTX TITAN SLI OC (2000€) = 30 / 25 fps
Valken replied to flowa91's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
@Simon1279 - what kind of cooling are you using to OC up to 5.2 GHZ? I'm looking at a new system build for ARMA 3 already. @ flowa91 are you getting low FPS online? Because online FPS depends on server performance also. If the server is lagged out due to CPU load from AI or too many players or both. If you startup a dedicated server on a fast dual or quad core, not sharing your game pc, then have all your friends log into it, it should be better. -
Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Valken replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I have done some testing and this is what I've found out. ARMA 3 really needs 2+ GB VRAM video cards on ultra setting. VRAM alone just to load all the map assets models and textures. If you fly around the map, it will fill up your VRAM extremely fast. I feel 3 GB VRAM cards should be norm at 4 GB should be with plenty of room leftover. I tested extensively by using the game editor to check each map with a player model and helicoptor. I fly around the map for 5 mins and watch all 2 GB VRAM for both of my video cards fill up. The next step is how fast do you want to render everything. First tip: Turn OFF AntiALIASING and use FXAA or SMAA. I use FXAA on high sharp detail and it is good enough for me at 1920x1080. I am currently running ATI 6950 CFX unlocked and the speed is fairly good until I get near a cluster of AI. Then my FPS drops due to cpu loading. For main memory, it is best to get 6+ GB main memory, 8+ GB is better and the absolute fastest Intel CPU you can overclock it to. This will give ARMA 3 up to 4 GB of ram in a 64 bit OS without hanging your system or forcing it to swap to virtual memory too much. Smoother gameplay. When I run low on ram, the game stutters due to windows swapping things out of memory to the HD swap file. From extensive AI testing in big games with A LOT of AI running around in Single Player with AI enhancement mods, you want the fastest possible cpu you can afford. You do not need more than 4 cores really. ARMA 3 cannot load balance the AI that well. AI alone is one big thread so it will use up the maximum speed of one core. I've tested with Zeus AI setup, WW AICOVER and TPW mods. Try these 3 mods to test the ingame AI load and how much better it feels playing scenarios and missions. It is not as good as ARMA 2 with AI mods, but it is better than the stock game. Lastly, more ram for a ramdisk or SSD to stream all the content around. It is noticeable against a fast HD and is way more quiet during loading. This is for Ultra setting usage at 1920x1080p. If you are using less video settings, you can use less powerful gpu. But if you plan to play with lot of AI running around, you will need an FAST INTEL CPU (i5/i7 or NEWER generation at 4+ GHZ with 4 cores or faster cpu equivalent. I believe this means AMD cpus at nearly 5 GHZ speeds per core. If you want to justify buying a 6 or 8 core cpu just for gaming, then make sure to play Battlefield 3, 4 in the future and Crysis 3. Those games really can use up to 8 core cpus, but ARMA 3 just needs the FASTEST clock sped cpu you can afford. -
All in Arma (AiA) - TKOH/OA/A2/A1 merge with A3
Valken replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I have the full BAF DLC and I play the campaign in A2/CO but not in AIA. It does not show up. Will try the sound fixes and see if that helps. Also, PMC DLC only shows the LOW RES textures!!! Grrr... I have the full PMC DLC and cannot use the high resolution skins. I know - BIS must fully unlock the content within A3. -

You can use replacement mods from A2/CO. Check on the forums or armaholics. I am using "replacement" mods with Robert Hammer M4, 416 and AKs. Looks great in the AIA engine for any A2/CO mission that uses regular M4, 416 and AKs. ---------- Post added at 08:14 ---------- Previous post was at 06:38 ----------
