    Equiping items while being crouched

Arma animations require a major overhaul. The community has been asking for years for this, it's about time we had complete control of our bodies.
  2. I don't think that's right at all The lift is generated by the upper part of the wing (rotor blade) being longer then the lower section. As Bernoulli's law states, paraphrased here, the air flying over the top of the wing is traveling faster because it is traveling further than the underside. The result is a difference in pressure which causes lift. If the blade was upside down, the lift would be generated to the ground, right?

Time of day and colors are wrong

Fuck that I use arma as my holiday simulator now!!! don't take it away!!! Ok defo the sun but I love the blue ocean
  4. If you're still their spotting ability should go drastically down. RL example, on exercise one day I was laying by a bush in British DPM taking a break and these two civvies were walking towards me. What I was laying on were those brown/tan coloured beech pebbles/rocks. They were talking to each other and as they got closer I realized that hadn't seen me so I waited till they got to about 6 foot and just adjusted my lazy laying down posture a little and they both jumped out their skin lol. I wasn't in the bush, just by it and learned a lot that day about the importance of keeping still - as they say - movement kills. In Arma this should be reflected - if unit movement = 0 then subtract X% off their spotting ability. This should also apply to all movement speeds - slower moving things are harder to spot that faster moving things and also the angle they are moving it relative to your position. I'd love to know the variables they use for the AI in spotting.
  5. The celts fought alongside their women iirc
  6. All it takes is one crack shot to ruin your day and if that's down to a percentage chance of just being unlucky I'd rather they remove it. In Falcon 4 you could model in a failed engine start - it's realistic but does nothing for the game. Yes there are crack shots out there but all it means in real terms is that you start all over again. Before the realism nerds get in on this and say "well it can happen in rl!" yeah well then once you're dead go uninstall the game. ---------- Post added at 12:35 ---------- Previous post was at 12:14 ---------- You were probably glitching through the floor.
  7. Not only is it dumb it offers nothing to the experience than adding more time onto the mission, etc. So you look at a black screen for some minutes, get up and keep walking - nothing else happens in this time so what was the point of having it? Nobody here can offer a reasonable argument for harsh unforgiving fatigue systems like this and what it adds to the experience or gameplay. It's basically the same as your SL making you sit down for 5 minutes doing nothing - "ok guys let's have some fun and sit here for 5 minutes doing absolutely nothing!" Brilliant - love this exciting gameplay.
  8. Well in this instance the mission maker didn't put any vehicles in for us to use and where did I say there shouldn't be penalties? There are, it's called heavy breathing and a worse aim which is more than enough. Blacking out does what exactly other than make the game last 10 minutes more but gives you nothing back? Oooh look at the fun I'm having waiting here to recover lol really?
  9. No I was not sprinting, I never use the sprint mechanism, everyone else had the issue. I don't care if it was twice as forgiving, blacking out is utter BS and should never be in a game. ---------- Post added at 16:32 ---------- Previous post was at 16:29 ---------- Most likely yes, it was a long time ago. Even so, going up a hill should not make you pass out, Most of it was actually running for about 2km on flat land, it was a custom map with a big river going through it. So flat land and we were all crippled and as you pointed out, there was that feeling that u could never recover quite enough. It doesn't really matter, ACE over did it. Waiting around for 10 minutes is boring.
  10. I think you didn't read my responses correctly. Firstly the blacking out was carrying a SA80 and 9 mags, 3 smoke grenades, that was it. Secondly I posted what the human body could do in reality, since many people here think that we all collapse after walking a few feet thinking this somehow adds to gameplay. I then made the point that your in game characters should be better than they are in rl and should be able to do more than their rl counterparts since this is a game and we want that little extra freedom. Somehow this makes me a hypocrite?
  11. I don't think he's saying it can't happen, just that it's a rare occurrence and there are more important things to code in. Like I said, it would be great to see it modeled in but it's not a high priority. Maybe in Arma 8 or 9 we'll get there ;)
  12. So if you taped 4 or 5 assault rifles together that would be wider than an assault pack? I think they would fit in myself, the barrels would poke out the top but they would all fit inside it.
  13. I've also thought this idea should be incorporated into more games. I'd love a much finer control over my movement speed and the associated stealth benefits of it or penalties. It would require new animations and with the problems of the existing animation I doubt we'll see anything as versatile as SC.
  14. Better interaction would be great though AC and water don't really go very well. Making it that the player must detach from his seat and then swim to the surface could be good. It may not be an option if the exits got blocked then you can all drown together :)

Devs, please move the Briefing Screen!

Well now we seem to have something rather unrealistic going on here. You choose your load out before you are briefed on the mission? That's ass backwards and the OP is right, the briefing should come first and then you work out what you're taking. Nice OGR reference too! Personally the whole UI should change, perhaps there should be a weapons pool that has the option to restrict it's access only to the SL. In fact just add the Falcon 4.0 UI it kicks ass!
  16. Can you list what it simulates that is realistic? Ballistics aren't because the weather isn't modelled in vehicles aren't because the physics aren't correct. Also your not moving your hands to turn the ignition and you teleport into it after some clunky animation. Your character isn't because he has magical healing packs and can respawn. He can't even change his stance fluidly and gets stuck in weird animations and doesn't have control over his body. The inventory system isn't because you never take off you backpack and throw it on the ground then open it and use the mouse to move your hands to get things out, same for your combat webbing. Should I continue? Panting like an old smoker after 500m is not believable and neither is it fun. Carrying unlimited gear is stupid but in a game I expect to be able to move quicker, run longer, carry more and shoot better than a rl counterpart because it's a game. I don't want ridiculous levels of these, just a slightly tweaked version and my posts showing what the Royal Marines and Royal Marine Commandos can do shows what the human body can do which i think a lot of people here think it can't. ---------- Post added at 17:58 ---------- Previous post was at 17:50 ---------- I'm not against fatigue, just bad fatigue where it interrupts your game play (for instance ACE went too far I think, collapsing and having to wait 10 minutes does what exactly to enhance the game play?) I'd rather not disable it, I'd like it to work good and I think the more you carry, the slower you should go - why isn't this modeled in? I can run as fast as a naked me when I'm carrying an M246, a Rocket launcher and 3 rockets plus 5 belts of ammo and webbing, etc? Bullshit! Why isn't anyone arguing for different movement speeds? or are they? ;)
  17. Yes and this is a game and so we can make the players a little more fitter than the fittest soldiers....liiiiike..... the Royal Marine Commando's who have to travel 30 miles in 6 hours with kit over Dartmoor which is a pretty shitty place to traverse. I don't think people want over packed bags, they just don't want reality creeping into a game too and fatigue systems suck pretty much. ACE fatigue was pretty bad and what does it add to the game anyway? If realism is what they strive for, why did they add in respawns? For every realistic thing you can say is in the game, I can probably give you 10 times the amount of unrealistic things. The point is not about realism because there's very little in the game as it is, but gasping like an old man after a 500m jog is simply not fun for anyone. Why can't they just limit the max move speed? The more you carry, the slower you go and implement fatigue but be a lot more lenient with it?
  18. Couldn't agree more. It's a game, not real life. If it's meant to be rl then you might as well scrap the whole game because nothing in it is realistic - wait you can't move and switch ur pistol? Ur body gets taken over in weird animations? You don't need to eat or drink? Vehicle physics isn't actually physics? You can take multiple shots and patch them all up with a band aid? But you must fall to the ground after jogging 500M (even though the Royal Marines Yomped 26 miles with no issues in the Falklands wars...) ---------- Post added at 14:43 ---------- Previous post was at 14:25 ---------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yomp
  19. Yes unfortunately the AT animation when coupled with Bino's is horrendous - it is literally game breaking. Play DayZ again and getting killed because when I wake up after getting hit by a zombie takes me through a string of animations you are stuck in. It's really about time the animations got fixed and if the current engine can't do it, make a new one from all the sales you made off dayz mod.

    NVG

In fact this is exactly the correct, realistic answer. If you don't want it on there, take it off and stow it.
  21. This has been an Issue since OFP and has been complained about since OFP. Why do you think mods have to be made to make it work better? The AI is a fundamental part of the game and should be dealt with by the devs and made playable by release. AI one shotting you in this series has always fucked people off. It is NOT a matter of practice and dumbass comments such as L2P only show peoples ignorance in video games. The setting can be tweaked on the server in an .ini file (or cfg) which is total shit. You shouldn't have to mess with files when AI settings have been a component of all FPS UI's for over a decade. BIS need to get with the times, they finally (almost completely) addressed the movement issues and I also have an issue with the AI settings - what is it, Ai Skill and AI Accuracy? Is that it? that's what I need a whole core of my cpu to process? That's as far as I can tweak it? For all it's fancy AI subroutines, they are much help when their skill level is set so ridiculously high it ruins peoples experiences and makes you feel your fighting robots with lasers rather than actual soldiers who on the whole shouldn't be as well trained as yourself.

    Stealth needs a buff

Presumably when you say through windows or forests, LOS means even a gap as wide as your thumb?

    Arma III is very laggy

BF3 has 500m view distance compared to 2000m or more in Arma, doesn't have AI, nor a real body attached to you, probably worse models in flight and ballistics and is in Beta. When BF series scopes out to 10km view distances with maps over 225 sq km, then we might be able to offer some comparison but then it still won't be using a whole core just to process it's AI (or lack of).,

    Convince me.

The best games I've had with Arma are COOP missions that I play with my friends. Arma allows you to completely brief your mission before you get into it by being as long or as short as you like. So we will look at the map, look at the objectives and then decide on your ingress and egress routes. With ACRE and ACE mods, the game takes on a whole new aspect of realism so once your ingame, you hear your mates positionally to where you are and the radio is brilliant. COOP missions are challenging and make you feel like your more in a mission i suppose than PVP where the enemy know you are coming and where from (generally). There aren't many games you can play cooperatively with your friends. There are clans/groups you can join to hook up for COOP and TVT game play (Shack Tactical is probably the biggest). Arma 3 will offer this and more in time, but it's still Alpha remember so don't expect much for the rest of the year maybe but it's cheap now so think of it as buying a seed and growing a tree.

    Vault,Dive,roll for movement?

There's now way you would jump in full kit. Even if you tossed your bergen and were down to your combat webbing jumping isn't viable. You need to exercise some care when negotiating obstacles so a) you don't snap your ankle or any other shit and b) you don't get snagged up in anything either. There is no instance in RL where you can jump like they do in BF or COD and any jumping animation would should only raise the height of your feet about a foot off the ground and propel you maybe 3-4 feet (it could be set against your weight of course) so you could jump over a narrow whole but that's it. But then I did miss out on the Advanced FIBUA: Bunny Hopping course :p
