  1. Greetings. http://17icarus.forumfree.it/ Regards the tendencies in the Arma communities that tend for hierarchized groups, this ruin the fun for most even the serious gamers. Same happens in softair groups, the hierarchy idiocy vest tend to ruin the game for the normal person that return home from a long day of work/study and is capable to play Arma, and even so, even if he can do better than the others, he must take orders, and stay under hierachy, without the possiblity to play in PVP and clan wars, because the capò/team leader, decided so. I know personally other communities and other community members that behave exactly in a good way, and is not a random fact that the best team mates are ex-pilots, ex-military, and though working/studying people that has zero needs to act tough on the internet. On the other side from my experience of playing with the other face of the medal, the fun is ruined because often we forget that the only reason we play Arma is the only one that is right: having fun. This doesn't mean playing without being smart, cool, and being serious simmers and all. Do you think is better staying in colomn formation and getting all shot for the stupid mistake of a team leader that honestly should only bring ammunition to the squad ? Then 17° Icarus isn't for you. If otherwise you see Arma 3 more like a tactical future virtual sport then you don't need a militarized squad. We can make Arma 3 community better and then compete with the others and see who is better, just for the fun of it. Serious fun. Do you have a good control on the keyboard/mouse/wheel/pedals/hotas? Have you got adrenal gland so big you need to carry them in a bag? If so, come friend. The community is newborn, and use EU timezone. English language is required, if it's not your first language is expected, since we're based in ( Italy). Team speak server, and dedicated server are expected to come this year. Working as a team, require teambuilding training skill. And we don't see this much around. Building a team is something that require some sort of skill that is pretty rare, and this lead to disaster where entire squad are wiped out by AI, only to be "revived" by some nearly "spawned" folk. This isn't even far from realism, and has nothing or little to do with teamwork. Of course, there will be evenings where the use of weaponary and interaction with the game will be explained, as this technical part is necessary sometimes, but thinking that this is teambuilding is far from truth. We do driving even racing sims(rfactor 2, iracing), flying military sim( DCS:A10, Falcon 4.0, Il-2, ROF), And of course Arma 3. http://17icarus.forumfree.it/ ps. site is still wip, but the forum is working.

    My idea about AI

    I clicked canc and lost all what i wrote. I rewrite. Let's say we have a level 5 AI, enabled after a sommatory benchmark cloud score of 2000(again every pc run a little benchmark tool if they decide to play on this difficulty setting). On level 5, the AI is able to patrol, shoot, and use vehicle. But let's say the cloud benchmark score sommatory is 3000 thousand. This would enable algorithms of level 8. On level 8, if a enemy unit spots you in this case is able to communicate to other enemy patrol and startle them, so they enter in a more vigilant status, once startled. On level 9, they decide to make a heli run toward your position. On level 10, they would be able to acquire intelligence on your weapons, let's say you have 3 AT, they would not run with a car toward you. There are multiple level, and the algorithm can only grow, this would tend to a maximum bench mark cloud score. Of course one can only imagine the Algorithm can be rewrote and made faster and implemented more in the future and in different version of arma. Yes, there is also the differential technology release problem (transumanist current), and in poor words and in fact, that is the reasone every years they come out with a different video card slightly more powerful and slighlty more optimized, but this is a political choise that is bigger than you think, and has to do with the threat of nuclear war. It's a subtle agreement so they decide to make you pay for every small upgrade, this regards cellphone, oculus vr, google glass, different driving system. Of course, this is just an idea that i decide to believe. The entire progress of science and humanity is dumbed down by a agreement. This is real, and have nothing to do with Illumanatis and paranoia. I know for a fact. So this entire differential AI system base on cloud computing, maybe just too much to do in the near future, not of course for the technical difficulties, that are already achieved, but more for a balance of the effect. OF course, i don't think a smarter AI can give me more than funnier times! But you now, there are the bad guys too.

    My idea about AI

    In response to first poster: you won't disable the actual way AI works, so you can play in single player. To Hornet: having a different server managing AI is not what i meant, because what i said is to implement a differential AI and using more Cpu elaborating power would make more advanced the AI. This is not simple stuff and of course the kind of advantage would be experimentally measured first of all, and i have no data regarding this. The idea of differential is that every AI complexity level as a minimum, once you go past this number( elapsed with a benchmarking tool like ) you go up a level in complexity and so go on in a Piramid like system. If a client disconnect the level of ai go down. This of course should be a selectable custom difficulty level, like "rookie", amateur", medium, hard leaved at actual AI settimg and a fifth option " Enable cloud computed AI". You would need to make Arma run a small benchmark ok cpu power and performance, but again, only if you enable the C.C.AI. Let me know what you think, i mean, maybe in Arma 6 could make Arma the only FPS played by people.

Does the AI in certain situations, can reach higher levels of awareness without the client to know? Or how much of the computing power is related to AI computation? If the AI use cloud computing to execute even more larger and complex algorithm this could be a good idea to improve it. You make the clients connected work too using their connections and their processors, without overloading the server. This is not to make the server work less of course, but to reach the best AI ever made. You could do it that every piece of complexity and algorithm (you need to rewrite it, ask to AI scienstits help, i'm just a chemist) is startled when a certain level of computation is reached. When the computation level is not reached or get below a certain level, the ai get dumbed down to a previous level. I'm not asking to put this feature in Arma 3, but maybe in Arma 6. In 5 or 6 years everyone will probably have a much better cpu ( you should see this in even less time tho), this would lead to a self improving AI where you just need to develop even more complex and faster algorithms. You could make even more level and sublevels. Just imagine with your programmers brain where this could lead. Of course reaching the level of a single human brain is far from accomplished, and how much this would improve the AI in Arma is out of my view, but i guess that 20 cpu working 20 % more (imagine quad cores) is mich more than a single server cpu.

    Oculus Rift VR headset

    the Armaholic website is still online to prove you're very smart. Points of the discussion: Oculus and Visor make you blind, i will not use it. First of all, the level of immersion you will obtain, is like going to war. Yeah i was a military and ofc it's not like the real thing, but have you ever tried a visor? You are in the game. You are in the matrix. the problem To solve the tedious problem, about the obscuring of the eyefield by the visor, that doesn't let you watch the keyboard, surrounding, as i wrote in AMVI forums(most important italian aircraft simulation they often go mount simming device to the real aeronautics), SIM HQ forums, i have the solution. Two are the current solution for obtaing said see-thro, that often is necessary, so instead of toggleing yoor visor for activities like like sipping your coffè,the need to pickup the phone, and last but not least watch the keyboard and the keys, and sorrounding. The actual solutions 1. Not mine, you make the visor trasparent like 30%, so you actually see the game and your sorround. But it's a boner killer imho. 2. My solution: you mount a webcam/small cam on the center of the visor looking to external world. With the press of a "designated key easy to reach like eject key panic room key" you press it and you activate the webcam/cam on the oculus and start trasmitting inside the oculus monitor. Actually you will see the real world thro the eye of the webcam without leaving the oculus. Practical uses. 1. Press the key-tap once=activate cam =tap again =deactivate. 2. Continue pressure=activate cam briefly, release=deactivate. 3. Press: activate for X amount of time, 5 sec, 3 sec, 2 sec, 10 sec. Press again=deactivate instantly. So you need to really sip that huge ultracaffeinated extra long coffè you drink to aim better and keep concetrante. But you have the visor. So you would ask where is my cup of coffè? Press the panic/eject button with 1 of the fucntion above et voilà -->you see your sorrounding thro the cam, you sip your coffè like a boss, and go back in to the game, with the oculus still mounted on the head. 2. Your mum say it's ready to eat. You press the button watch your mum thro this terminator like cam, and smile and say " i will come in 5'". And so go on. so what we should concentrate, and I know there are really smart people between us, despite theyr study level, to mod the oculus this way. Technical solution WIP Webcam mountedn on oculus with felcro. Webcam output into pc. Give primary task priority to webcam sofware. You press the button give priority to webcam sofware, you call the webcam it takes priority on Arma 3 software and you see the overlay. Some software magic could even apply a trasparence to the overlay like 60% so you don't lose the situational awareness. my 2 cents. I give them to you for my horrific english.
