Bohemia Interactive's ambitions are always set too high.
vivoune replied to sayjimwoo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
That's not the point. The point is that debating on what engine is best for this or that, isn't as relevant as how modular or specialized an engine can get after it's been worked on for a more specific purpose that intended in its first iteration. -

Because Star Citizen? :) -
Can we expect missions on a larger scale in "Win"?
vivoune replied to st!gar's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
For me 'Adapt' was just a bad experience all around, just like 'Survive' for the same reasons, tiny scale, scripted simple corridor objectives, questionable mission design (could be because of the bad AI) and a silly AI that either snipes you from afar through bushes and trees the second you take a peak around a corner or completely ignores you as you're 10m besides them. A bit worse in fact considering how clunky, to stay polite, is the commanding system and how the AI reacts to any given order (get to cover = prone in the middle of the road, AT soldier attack a vehicle = AT soldier shooting small arms at armor etc, all in all how the AI simply doesn't have any sense of what is safe, dangerous and how to... well.. "adapt"). I wouldn't have built any mission around that command system. I'm gonna stop here and won't even touch what's left to come of the campaign as the more I play it the more my love for Arma is put to the test. Multiplayer, mods, user missions hopefully save the day and succeed in putting to light the strong points of Arma, I don't know why the mission designers dedicate so much effort in keeping at good distance what makes Arma 3 a great Arma game, large scale operations, combined operations and a real sandbox experience with countless unique opportunities and real sense of freedom & choice consequences. -
Despite Bohemia proudly looking at Atlis with a sense of great achievement (with good reasons!) I still quite dislike the Greek Mediterranean scenery, landscapes and 'vacation' atmosphere, never have been a fan of these. I do miss the green forests, heavy grass and moody atmosphere of Arma 2 and was wondering if Bohemia was considering developing another large scale terrain that goes back to a more humid continental climate, or even snow/tundra if the LODs is an issue. Just wondering if that's considered in the long run. (probably as a DLC)

It's good to see them focus on optimization a bit. Personally with a i5 3570K, SSD, 16Gb ram & a GTX 670 ftw edition for a single 1920x1080 screen, playing mostly multi-player I find myself having to keep things to an overall normal/high quality in order to handle the occasional slow down that bring my fps down to 20 fps regularly. If it weren't for that I could run it ultra with a steady 45-50fps on most scenes. But the performance is simply way too irregular across the board and I end up having to heavily tune the graphics down 100% of my play time for these occasional stuttering that leaves me as unimpressed about the Arma 3 engine's optimization as I was with Arma 2's. I hope the last patch helps in that matter. HDAO fails to impress me too as I barely see any visual improvement nor any fps gain/drop big enough to be worthy of note. That's my opinion but I did find the 1st 'survive' campaign was as dull and unnecessary as it felt like moving in a 'corridor', it just seemed like a waste of dev's time and resources. So I'm not excited at all for the second 'adapt' episode, especially considering how much time and effort they seem to require in order to provide so few and short missions. But to each his own as I'm sure many other must have found it to be a great experience (although I've yet to meet any). On top of all that the lack of any new weapon, vehicles or features makes this update a very disappointing one for me and the people I play with, especially considering the focus is now apparently on the 3rd episode of the campaign along with jets that are to me a big waste of time in such an infantry focused sim (A lot of servers just forbid or heavily restrict the buzzard anyway so objectives areas aren't cleaned in a few minutes and many people I met simply share that wish to have a clean realistic sky rather than a swarm of buzzing slow moving planes like in Bf3/4). All in all It'll be quite some time still before I see an update on the horizon that might better my experience in Arma III. I don't mean to rant, I just don't like what I see. -
Take on Helicopters bundle on sale
vivoune replied to Insanatrix's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
I just like the ease of game managing that Steam offers, I got all of my games in one place, downloaded, installed and patched to the last version in 2 clicks wherever I am. As a result I kinda gave up on buying non Steam games, otherwise I'd end up with way too many keys, platforms or DRMs and various log and pwd to install, keep up to date and remember. The non Steam version gamersgate keys can't be redeemed on Steam sadly, so afaik, combining it with a Steam version of Arma is out of the question. I'd have jumped that fine deal otherwise ^^. -

Good deal indeed, tho it's not the Steam version. So a no deal for me. -
A true and honest thank you to BI for being who they are.

Arma is a combined arm simulation, their focus is on infantry because they don't have unlimited budget, if they had they'd better simulate vehicles and aircrafts. Now they have the chance to have a helicopter simulator using almost the same engine, I don't see why they wouldn't want to implement it asap unless it require heavy re-engineering. If I'd want a soft where aircrafts fly as arcady and easy as BF3, I'd play BF3..

The heavier you are the harder it will be for you to run, climb a rope, jump over a wall etc, no matter how strong one looks. These essential tests are also the most difficult in the army for the people that looks like Mr Clean. Like it's been said, strength and stamina is what matters, not mass. You gain mass through dense and rapid exercises, which provides minimal strength gains. You gain strength through lengthy and regular exercises, that won't increase your muscle mass dramatically, in the army you'd prefer the latter. That is basic physiology, what you gain in mass and weight you loose in strength, stamina and agility. the current soldier mass is right imo, though yea a reasonable weight slider could be nice but it'd be pretty low on my priority list.

Can you render grass where the scope is aimed & will there be ghillie suits?
vivoune replied to Alabatross's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
What would be ideal imho is a different grass for lower settings, that are much uglier than the HD one and as a result a whole lot less demanding, but that would still provide about the same coverage, even it they must use minecraft's grass textures. That way the lowest settings is as it should be, less demanding but uglier, instead of clearer and more effective like it's always been. -
Player looking for squad (not for squads to post looking for players!)
vivoune replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - SQUADS AND FANPAGES
Greetings fine gents, In advance sorry for the length of this post, it is though, on purpose. Those who don't feel like reading you are more than welcome to just skip that poster, to the others, thank you for your time. I am indeed searching for a Community (yes, with a capital 'C') to join up and take part in. A bit about me: -I'm a 29 years old european (France GMT+1) looking for a mature clan to join, I don't play OA anymore, only Arma III CAlpha, -I do have a mic along with TS3 and will happily connect when able and take part in various convos, note that I might not always be able to respond back at all times, out of respect for my entourage. I also might be a bit shy at first because of the language barrier (I haven't really had the chance to speak English in a long time, in advance sorry about that), -No real military experience, -I am into video games since the early 90s and play very regularly (daily if able), often in sessions of a few hours (if able), -My english is decent though I still do need a lot of practice, -Game-wise, I only really jumped into the Armed Assault train at the Arma 2 release though I played a tiny bit of its earlier titles. Apart from Arma, I have a soft spot for simulations like the DCS, Flight Sim or Silent Hunter series to name a few. I also am quite a fan of RTS, turn-based and management games like Supreme Commander, Dwarf Fortress or the Total Wars, amongst others, -I am usually a patient person if given the chance, I like to try and talk before raising the fists, still I'm not so insensitive to fighting fire with fire. I highly value humility and tolerence and only & always join with the 'good' oriented side if such a manichean view is in order, -In Arma 3 I have yet to find a prefered 'class', that said I enjoy like most people the straightforward gameplay of the rifleman yet enjoy the supportive role of the medic and the help of the helicopter Pilot can offer to a team (currently equipped with a TrackIR5), -I understand an order is meant to be followed, not questioned. My ideal clan: i:e what I'm looking for Shell aspects: -Focuses mostly on Arma III, -Operates within a well organized squad/section/team system and chain of command (assign members within a fixed squad with a fixed officer that is responsible for it, whom respond to a senior officer etc), -Is organised within a decent (preferably copied after a real army) rank system with proper insignia & with possible 'career' advancement. (A medal and ribbon system would be great!), -Host a TS server and Have or at least Plan to own a dedicated Arma III server, if not for op training or clan events, only to provide its community a hacker-free environment, -Have a website and/or forum to provide its community with a proper roster, event and various clan updates. Core aspects: -Welcome out-of-the-egg players and veterans alike, -Emphasize on respect, maturity and bonding, -Doesn't allow members under 18 at the bare minimum, no exceptions, -Has an average member's age that is closer to the 30s than the 18s, age of course isn't always a good representation of a member's maturity but given my past experiences, the higher the age check the more mature a clan, no offense to the younger audience for it's just how things are, -Accept worldwide members, but english being the only spoken language, -Doesn't accept just anyone, preferably ask for a reasonable trial period. I am after a group of players to spend quite some time with in the coming months, years maybe. As a result I am after a community that isn't interested in growing big and fast but rather stay quite small but under a manageable 2 digits number, driven by friendship and a brotherly attitude that would naturally favorise bonding thanks to common values. I hardly see me joining a community that has more than 30+ members or something along that line, -Understand & respect real life comes first, -Keeps track of its members in a diligent yet flexible and humane manner. Natural applications: -Effective use of various formations and tactics in-game along with clear communication's codes that makes for proper ops & missions (or plans to), -Team members understand in tense and critical situations that the com should be kept clear and not cluttered by the usual chit chat that is more welcomed during slower paced/more relaxed situations, -Officers and people in charge understands they have to fairly enforce an articulated and clear enough English, bad settings and/or microphone/headphone's sometimes being a difficulty to proper understanding, no need to add to that, -Offers various training programs (or plans to), -Enjoy the fast paced action like most of us but also, and that is important, isn't afraid of the immersive slow-paced tactical dimension the Arma series is build upon that would bore many less patient modern players. -Plays seriously, almost light role-play, yet in a friendly manner that won't condemn a touch of humor here and there. In other words, a community that is serious enough to be effective and get the job done but still knows we're all after the same thing, fun & a good time. :) In advance I am sorry it it feels maybe elitist or pretentious, that is in no way my intention, that is just the type of Community I'm after, where I want to thrive and evolve. If you feel you are part of such a Community and think I share the same values as the clan you represent or are part of, please feel free to ask me anything in pm and I'll gladly get back to you ASAP. Until then, thanks for reading and stay frosty! Cheers -
Just an out of subject ninja remark, I'd love for the 'O' key to actually animate the soldier into looking at a watch on his wrist when in 1st person. That is all.

Will the Helmets come with more functions?
vivoune replied to mr_centipede's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Thanks to the pip tech I agree a cam would be nice to help team leader on the field or commanders back in base in their fancy chairs trying to reassure the chief of staff. It would be nice if helmets had attachments like the weapons, (flashlight, camera, pack of cigs, rainbow cats etc). Also I'd like the OPFOR helmet redesigned please, the general shape is obnoxious to me and the attached (imho) failed futuristic little tactical sun glasses just make it worse, I really am not a fan of it, but that's merely the opinion of one, me. :) -
Helicopters. What do you guys think of the A3 versions?
vivoune replied to JojoTheSlayer's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
The flight model currently feels very arcadish indeed, incredibly forgiving, responsive and shallow. Like it's been stated, it might just be a place-holder untill they implement a better one, hopefully the TOH flight model. If that's the case then it makes sense that they didn't/don't spend much time in the current FM and would explain its lack of, well, everything.
