Walrus AI mod (Steam Only for now)
H4mster posted a topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
This is a continuation of a discussion from another thread, test results were positive and there is a video (go fullscreen) to show results, its by no means a fix, but does help, to test I set up the walrus to do a route, saved the game, and ran each test from the save so they are all the same, I then sped up the video so it wouldn't bore people too much, so that's 3 tests put into one video all starting at the same time. Top left is value 0, tidy formation most of the time, not perfect but a improvement, this is the value in the mod. Top right is value 0.9, this is default, walrus do not stay in formation. Bottom left is value 10, even worse than default, very messy. Download http://www24.zippyshare.com/v/73677849/file.html unpack and copy the scripts and physics folders to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Carrier Command Gaea Mission\" Press K during game to bring up mod information, this will help you verify its installed. Added Carrier AI mod because it was never released as a file and works really well. Credits to Tontow for suggesting a low value, and Thygrr for making his modding tool, also Disorder and Deanolium. -
control tower blinking light is morse code?
H4mster posted a topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
Someone noticed a mast on the carrier control tower that has a blinking light that spelled out FIDOJEMOCNY in morse code. Does this mean anything? -
I bet the moderates here love pot noodle, they have so much in common.

Suggestions for CCGM (please post them here)

Can the devs please add cup holders to the walrus, I keep spilling my pot noodle on the seats. -
If I know my history and I always do then pot noodles are made by terrorists and were designed to explode when you add the water, but when the c4 goes out of date it leaves a bitter after taste instead of blowing you up. Fourth rule of mod club, never eat a pot noodle before the use by date.

The third rule of mod club is no talking about going off topic. The fourth rules of mod club is to find out what 'circular reference paradox' is. The fifth rule of mod club is getting back on topic, 'the hard facts of life' are we have to wait for the modding tools, this is not easy :p

I use a old version of textpad that can also compare changes and search for words in folders and its subdirectorys and throws out a list you can click, handy for modding and worth mentioning to new modders. -

Does anyone want to take over this mod?, maybe a moderator can fix it so you guys can access the first post, I'm not giving up, just waiting for the official tools before going in at the deep end. Plus where I live its got really cold weather atm, makes it hard to use brain and mod. :D -
Rule one of fight club, you can talk about what you want with when you have a VPN :p

Did the OP get banned for making this thread? Just wondering.

Any official word on pathfinding yet?
H4mster replied to Tolmos's topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
Just any info, like if their are even working on a patch, if their goal is to not sell any games then their doing a very good job of it. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. People that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones (BI moderators) If your walking on eggs don't hop. Do these devs have any common sense or are they arrogant morons? Jesus, you cant be serious? The steam forums are getting inpatient too, I think decent devs would give a eta or at least some info, people are not buying the game because of the walrus problems. -

I did think of setting the rock grip to 0, then they might not get stuck on them at all. -

With programming AI i find its best to tell them to do what you would do in a situation, the tricky part is making sure various actions don't conflict with each other, if you get it wrong they dither about trying to do 3 things at once, but if you get it right they can be very formidable. You really have to know the game before tacking AI. Tips for the day :p -
I'm a FXAA fanboy, I like my games running smooth.

Another reason games devs keep undershooting release day is because of the age old gravediggers syndrome... If it takes 1 person 8 hours to dig a grave then 8 people should be able to dig a grave in 1 hour, wrong, its take 8 hours for 8 people to dig a grave because you can only fit one person in the grave at a time.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/07/microsoft-comes-under-fire-for-five-figure-xbox-360-patch-fee/ This is why we are waiting, BI are probably doing one patch because its costs so much on the xbox. But on the other hand the game has not sold well because of the bugs so it might not be viable to fix them, don't you just love modern business techniques of shoot yourself in the foot and not bother putting a bandage on it. -

Maybe the code is ran though once when a island loads and initialises and that value sticks elsewhere, it does seem to have an effect but its not big enough to call a fix. -
I run all my games in 720p, because its a little lower than the monitors rez there's is a free anti alias effect.

I would like to think they was working on a patch, is there any official word? -
There is a article on IGN.com about how new games succeed and some fail ... http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/10/19/how-new-games-succeed-and-why-so-many-fail Video gaming is a pretty tough business.

I'll replace the daft one I made with yours, and run a test on another island, this time 2 tests with and without the mod. Walrus sightseeing mountain tours :) -

Yeah I just ramped everything in the materials file to 10, its fun to flip the walrus. The dot > 0 just makes the walrus more accurate when turning, the extra grip helps them turn faster, they left the stock AI standing but they still get stuck in confined spaces, until BI do their proper patch it gives us something to mess around with and learn while waiting for carriertools, walrus racing should be a new sport. Just need horsepower tweak, 200mph walrus next :p OTT (Over the Top) is nothing compared to H4mster Hax.
