  1. This thread is for discussing what modding improvements you would like to see from ArmA2 to ArmA3 and beyond. --- 1. What I'd personally like to see would be integration of Java or another alternative to SQF, because honestly SQF is not very advanced as I'd like it to be when it comes to tasks that you could accomplish way faster and alot easier in Java. 2. I'd also like to see the ability to somehow add content such as a config file and models to a mission PBO, which could cut down on the amount of small but annoying addons that people would need to download before loading the game, although that would be a pretty tricky one for the devs to add. You can already add textures to missions, so thats a start. 3. It would also be nice if there was a way to interact with the chatbox, for example to colour a players text to show everybody else that he is a admin or to make simply player-initated commands. For example, "!menu" which could keep less clutter out of the action menu. 4. Oh and don't forget, a simpler way for noobies to install addons. 5. And the most unlikely out of all of them, .so call extension for the hypothetical Linux server that has not been confirmed yet. :p Discuss or wish/suggest anything related to the title/original post posted with permission from [FRL]Myke
  2. Hey $able can we get a screenshot function? It would be relatively easy to write considering all you vaguely need to do is take a screenshot on the client, upload it to battleye/screenshots folder with the name of the client+datestamp as the filename. It would help admins see if somebody is using hacks.

    It looks... like a horrible place to live.. BUT thats a good thing it adds to the overall atmosphere :D
  4. So every now and then somebody on my server will inject nasty call RE code which will initialize on the client when they join and get them kicked for a script restriction since I have that command blocked. How do I remove one of them? Because AFAIK setVehicleInit has a remove option.. so multiplayer framework should aswell? If it does not.. why can't BIS do anything right?
  5. Kylania, you don't need to use an addon, there are script injectors out there. As for playing with people I trust that is kind of hard if you want to maintain a population, and want to play large scale missions.
  6. Aslong as the F-35's have realistic handling.. in ArmA2 the F-35 could out maneuver anything, while in real life it cannot move.
  7. I don't think the F-22 would see active service in 2030, its showing its age with all these mass groundings. Plus ArmA is pretty small scale, all SAM's can hit a stealth aircraft at the ranges in ArmA. Also M1A3 isn't futuristic.. its basically a M1 with a gatling gun. Plus America isn't even confirmed passed special forces scale, really the game is probably a massive clusterfck of nothing making sense.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Eh, the posts on the other page are worse. I was just responding to their circlejerk and bandwagon shit. +1 infraction for being outspoken about other peoples ignorance. Love it, but seriously I don't get how this 0/1 (1) mark even affects me in any way or is it just a medal for the great work I've done.

    You guys are similar to nationalists or southern US Americans and dare I compare Nazi's when it comes to other genres. Each to their own, just because you don't enjoy a game I enjoy, does not mean it is shit. It means you are shit for trying to impose your opinion on others. Here is a hint, nobody cares about your fanshit circlejerking crap, it makes you look like idiots. Just because you enjoy a false sense of realism 24/7 does not mean others do.

    Performance could also be bottlenecked by SQF's poor performance, this makes me really hope A3 supports JVM.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Thats why you don't run at default clock speeds, and in those benchmarks.. AMD beat out the i5 on all the applications that properly utilize all 8 cores, plus its cheaper. Anyway, this is pretty off topic. The point was ArmA3 better scale properly as more then 6 cores is still the future no matter how efficient your CPU is. Plus, those benchmarks are most likely pre-windows update that fixed some issues with Bulldozer & Windows. The hardware is fine.

    You know, I did post my specs and trolling isn't really allowed on these forums. It is true ;) Once again, its a software fault if the software can't take advantage of my processing potential.

    Its people like this that piss me off, Zambezi has more potential processing power then any i5 processor out there if utilized properly. See, BF3.. all cores are utilized thus gets better framerate then even high-end i7's while costing about $100. I render HD videos, Zambezi does it in the quickest amount of time, theres a example. Its okay, I thought you were pulling a "herp derp buy intel even though they price gouge all their CPUs" shit like the person I quoted above. Sorry if I came out blunt I thought you were purposely trolling.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Ahaha, if you really want to say Zambezi isn't a proper 8 core processor.. you're very very uninformed. I was waiting for you go smash to your assumptions and say something stupid. Hehe, you're the best! There are 8 cores in Zambezi, with 4 shared modules containing a FPU and L1 cache each. It is a proper 8 core processor. Now, enough with your stupid Intel fanboy shit and back to the topic at hand. It does not scale as well as other games such as Battlefield 3 and I hope they make RV4 scale properly among 6 core+ processors as that is generally a good thing to do if you want your software to work properly among all systems. My specs: XFX, AMD Radeon 6870 AMD Zambezi 8 core, I have each cores clock speed set at 4.45Ghz and the proper voltage for each core. It passes a 6hr Prime95 without a BSOD so my overclock isn't the issue ASUS Sabertooth 990FX mobo 1TB Seagate disk drive. 2x 64GB SSD's in RAID0. 4x2GB of DDR3-1600 totalling 8GB. Antec 620HCG.

    Well I disagree completely. ArmA3 should scale per number of CPU cores available. Frostbyte 2's CPU scaling, keep in mind I'm not doing anything I have it in window mode while I'm taking a screenshot of the cpu usage graphs. That is scaling.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Each to their own, I like to have some arcade style fun but I also play sims such as IL-2, Lock On and ArmA. Anyways, I'm not saying locking every single thread up is a good idea. I was simply referring to Frostbyte 2's scaling capability compared to ArmA's. But yeah.. if ArmA scaled well over multiple cores I would have a massive FPS increase. Because at the moment one of my cores is locked to near 100% utilization when playing warfare and that is inefficient considering the amount of stuff that happens in a Warfare game at any given time and all of ArmA's simulations. I personally would prefer ArmA scale over all of my cores properly.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Because if its still focused onto one core its crap. It can and it does, because it scales VERY well. Unlike ArmA. And yes SQF is related to the slow speed of scripts. In my opinion its best to the way Valve setup their SDK, they opensourced part of the engine for modification, HEAVILY documented it. Thus, everything is written in C++ and runs fast. However, that might not be modder friendly so Lua is still the better solution when it comes to something like arma.
  18. rufor

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    I bet you $10 that they will not scale the really consuming things such as AI and simulations onto other threads and I will still get the same CPU bottleneck I should not be getting. And I'm glad you love me so much to go through my posts ;) Also, RV4 = RV3+bling. I'm sorry for your disorder.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    I do know what I'm talking about, and you just proved my point for me ;)

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Lua is used because it is simple, fast and is very easy to learn. And.. it is pretty much Python syntax if you look at it.. its still better then SQF by kilometres. You're the one who brought up HT.. yet you say I'm comparing apples to oranges? And no they haven't denied it, but its purely speculation because TOH does not, ArmA2:OA does not. Why would they do it for ArmA3? Especially when the ArmA team is most likely stretched for resources considering they have Carrier command, TOH, DayZ and ArmA2 to update/make/etc. They've already ditched the 3D editor, I'm not even going to expect Java due to some comments from employees on the forums... who knows what else was cut? I don't have much hope unfortunately.. I'm not hating on ArmA. I love ArmA otherwise I would not be complaining so much :)

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Because if they were capable of it they probably would have done it already, and RV4 is probably going to be RV3 with some extra bling ontop of it. And yes, userbase = the people that play the game, and I'm fairly sure everyone would be pleased to have proper multicore support. And, what does HT have to do with anything I've said? I'm also pretty sure RV3 is written in C++, like it should be however it uses a really shitty scripting language that is very poorly documented ontop of all other things such as limitations and speed.. if anything they should have gone with Lua instead.. but BI being BI... "BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY" as if people can't learn new skills. Instead of trying to find justifications for BI's failings please cut the fanboy crap.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    You completely missed my point. I can't chill and enjoy the game because it isn't smooth as they don't know how to multicore scaling.

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    SQF is extremely primitive, it reminds me of old formatting languages for word processors. And yes, it does run like utter shit because the developers have no idea how to write a multithreaded engine, and they won't because they don't want to take the monetary risk at pleasing their userbase.' So no, its not god damn fluent when it should be because it does not scale properly. I'd probably get the same performance disabling all my cores but 3. Here is a hint, instead of side tracking because you don't understand one extremely minor comparison that isn't even relevant to the main argument you could have gone on about something more important. Why can't they spend thousands of dollars getting somebody in who knows how to scale multithreaded applications when they're making boat-loads of money off extra sales from things such as DayZ. I won't be buying anything after ArmA3 if I get no FPS improvement from proper multicore support, unless they heavily modify the engine that is. AND to add insult to injury they won't include the 3D editor because of quote "time constraints", yet they can somehow afford to branch off to useless things such as DayZ?

    "He is a troll because I disagree with him" Good to see who the more mature one is.
  25. rufor

    Arma 3 && Multithreading!!

    Yes I can, its alot more efficent because it spreads out the CPU load per every available core unlike ArmA. ArmA is VERY VERY unefficent. I am able to out-do a top range Intel CPU because it scales very very well. It also isn't limited by a really poor formatting language turned scripting language, the smart decision would have been to go purely with a language such as Lua.
