  3. As above really; Couple of simple ways in the editor, place an empty aircraft and have it ‘Flying’, or if you want people on board, place an aircraft and slide the fuel slider to no fuel. This won’t be an exact crash to a particular spot, but they will start the game crashing..

    So, downloaded and already making missions for the ‘new’ (sort of) terrains. Won't bother playing the campaigns (never do), its all about the 'Editor' ;). £7.99 or something around that price from BIS, its good value. Everything they produce is good value imo..:)
  5. Our group has used Rattler for a long time now, the size means it can be used for various types of mission. Like its sister the 51km Desert, it’s a very open expanse, and considering its size pretty empty. So why bother with terrains like these, well apart from there great and they can give huge fps performance, they are almost an empty canvass. Think the ‘Editor’, o.k. your first thought might be, well I can’t use that. Think again, pop in the ‘Editor’ choose say ‘Rattler’ terrain find a spot on the map, click F7 then go down to ‘Town Construction Set’ double click and you have just built a town complete with burning ‘camp’ fires etc. Put yourself down on the map and go have a look. BIS gave us this special tool/in-game ‘Module’, use it, terrains like this one are playgrounds. Pop on a town here and there, pop in game to see if you want to move, turn, or tweak it slightly, then hey presto you have a corner of any desert region. Its so easy to do, and you end up with your own unique area with, probably, very good fps. There are quite a few mods available for you to put down i.e. roads, tracks, buildings, bases, airbases in-fact more or less anything you would need for arma2. Just requires a little work. But using the module above, there’s no work really. Its very easy and this type of high performance terrain lends itself ideally to this type of thing. Have a go, the ‘Editor’ is the best place to be anyway, so have fun..     I reverting back to 1.60 from 1.61 at the start of the 1.61 RC. I have now come upto 1.62 and the latest beta or one of the latest, lets say. Just to get a confirmation, are all these terrains in ACR lower res ? Appreciate someone answering that for me.. :)

    Thanks. Hadn’t thought to add it up, I have just got a Roccat Kone Plus mouse to add, wife keeps telling me to stop, but what can you do when gaming’s your hobby. The Intel is new and mainly waiting for arma 3, the athlon around 2yrs old maybe a little older, and is mainly for arma 2, both gaming pc’s. Non of it is daft money though. If your saving for a new gaming pc for arma2, would certainly recommend the Athlon II x 4 quads, pick them up now for around £350-400 with card, pos maybe have to add £100-150ish to that to upgrade existing card to something a little stronger than provided. That’s pc only of course, no peripherals.

    PMC 51km Desert

    Snake man, just a thought, but why not remove a lot of the unfinished big cities from the terrain, replace them with small settlements and just tweak 34M (doesn’t need much at all), keep it the size it is now, but get rid of the outskirts of the city where the dirt tracks start when leaving the city, just put a few settlements around the outskirts. Just an idea..;) Some great large ports/goods terminals, plus great airbases, just need a little decoration (but really little), keep the fps high and performance in the terrain, imo.. :)

    Yes, alter it in the configs, or what I do is put a folder for example in this case it would be in the @cowarMod/addons folder and name it ‘awaiting’, then pop the ARD pbo in there. Then if and when you want it back just pull it back out again. Also some assiosiated dependency pbo’s if there are any that are not needed by anything else.. I have cowarmod, its a fine mod, but I already have my mods divided into folders and catagories, and I always put a ‘awaiting’ folder in each of my mods addon folder for this reason, very handy, especially when testing, can put them in and pull them out quickly, without having to alter anything.. Just an idea..

    PMC 51km Desert

    I am glad to see this terrain here. I have had it for quite a while now and would really recommend getting this. City 34M is a great city layout, if you want high fps in a large city with plenty of ai in combat then this is the place to go. Also the sheer size of the area of the terrain lends itself to air, tank & large infantry battles. Great terrain, even though I have it already. Thanks for sharing it 'snake man'..

    Yes, did warn you, they tug substantially at my performance while recording, that’s why I don’t like doing them, but they give the general idea, even if there is a significant performance drop. But I am yet to see an arma2 vid that doesn’t cause some problem when recording. Or of course you could put one up yourself to show how perfect yours record.. Can’t wait to see that..:p Most settings are on very high other than: 'object detail' on very low (probably adds to this prob when recording, helps get rid of grass, I hate too much clutter). AA in-game on low with FXAA on Sharp Filter High setting. V-sync = disabled PP = disabled (hate blur as well) Think that's it..

    Puts me in mind of Emita or Tavania cities/islands, with the modules for namalsk colour effects plus maybe night or day effects, also some triggers with the namalsk sound effects along with zombie sound effects etc (now added), I would have thought you would have had a half decent huge abandoned city/industrial area type thing going on, very eerie I would imagine, those long empty streets at night plus the stadium, station building etc :butbut:. Not played Stalker myself, but both these large cities have enterable buildings, I think, stock and custom type, you would have to check on the map, but sure they may be worth looking at. If I remember rightly that 'Blowout' module is pretty scary, as well. These units are great, even though I don’t really play this type of game they are really impressive.
  13. I'll be very happy then, I'm running around 66fps on that pic (Podagorsk, heavy terrain) so I should go to around 90-100fps :butbut:, just can't see that myself though.. There again I'm not going to be using my 7970 on arma 2, just arma 3, get enough performance with what I have, well enough for my needs.;)
  14. He does have a few desert terrains, I have 3 or 4 pos more, most not altogether finished, but very usable and massive fps. The 51km desert terrain has one great city as well (city 32 or 34 can’t remember, will look it out, its up the north there). It’s a very nicely set out city, possibly one of the best for arma 2, plan wise. Great fps for city combat, he may put it here or a link to it, not sure but I may have got it on here a year or two back, myself, wasn't a member then, but been playing for around a decade, so have loads of terrains/island/maps, for ofp, vbs2 lite (only the two it came with), arma and arma2 plus the arma ones that have been re-done to run with arma2. :) , not sure this one I'm mentioning may have been for arma originally, can't remember, get to my age your lucky to remember how to switch the pc on.:j:..

    How is AI driving in the latest patch?

    So a quick video done today, which I’m terrible at, recorded with msi_afterburner on 50% quality, so its not great quality, a bit juddery but at 50% it takes less time to upload so there you go. But it can be viewed in 720hd, recommended. It shows the ai driving, there are three waypoints: 1/ to pick me up =‘Load’ 2/ half way = ‘Move’ 3/ end = ‘Transport unload’ The settings for the whole trip is ‘Safe’ mode. He does overshoot a junction not far into the drive, but on the whole he’s not bad. Now, I would have put in a few more waypoints had this been for a mission of some kind, which would have avoided him overshooting and also cutting corners a little, apart from that it’s a good trip. Other than the video quality, its not good and lags some but that’s just the vid looked great in-game, but there you go, just gives you an idea. I don’t like doing vids much. 50ezYpgQOh4 ____ Get them to drive as smart as these ai take up positions, then it would be first class, GL4 is the mod doing the smart ai work below, all ai apart from the first you see and the one I switch too, (he's a man of the cloth) all ai inside buildings etc .:) Essx_TzCvTw However all that said, they are not really that bad.

I have aa in-game on ‘Low’ settings, also as I’m running the new 1.62 patch/beta, I have the in-game fxaa setting as ‘Sharp filter - High’ which gives an effect of very high aa without any performance hit (click the pic again for full size). In the configs before, when I was running 1.60 with beta, I would set PPAA=2 & PPAA_Level=2, same results really. This is using HD5850 toxic 2gb. Don’t know if any of this will help.. I have a 7970 waiting for arma 3, so will be interested to see what happens here, any tips ideas welcome concerning the 7970 3gb, hope it performs as well as, or even better than my 5850 2gb, which has been a diamond of a card...
  17. Its pretty straight forward, if you want to do it manually, then just make sure you have something like ‘7z’ which is free to download. But I assume this may be your first arma experience, then Six Updater, will do it all for you, that’s free to download as well, although not every mod is on there, but its a great start. Cause this is all for installing mods not the game, installing that is like any other game, easy.. Enjoy..:D

I know Bagdad and Fallujah are both fps friendly and easy to use for medium size skirmishes/combat (70-80ai), and with this being of a similar, if smaller, urban area, it should play really well. The group I play in will have no problem playing missions made with that size of skirmish/combat. A large city battle, say over 200-300ai overall, could easily be broken down into parts to enable smooth play. I would not overload it myself with clutter around the urban area itself, and I already see there is a pretty good amount just outside town/city, keep it there if you are going to build up clutter imo. The city itself stands as a well made, 'easy to make missions for', type terrain from what I have seen upto now.. Thanks again for a great new terrain/island.
  19. A few screenshots below. I had a drive from the south straight north upto city 2, don’t really think the cities are needed to be honest. It’s a great terrain so far and would have been nicer with hunting huts or whatever here and there rather than the type placed. However it is a nice terrain for any type of conflict really, its spacious enough for tanks, although not sure how the ai cope yet, but great open light woodland, pos hidden terrorist training camps etc, maybe. Lots to think about. One thing however, I put on the summer vegetation and got rid of ground clutter via lowering the object details to ‘Low’ settings, everything else is pretty much on very high other than aa in-game on ‘Low’ but FXAA on Sharp Filter ‘High’ settings, so as not to take anything from the tree’s also AToC = 6. Edit: Forgot to say thanks for a great terrain.. just did a flight over averaging 38-40fps at 10000, so not bad. I never really use 10000 apart from sightseeing..:) Edit & added: Few more aerial shots, the two highest having fps counter to give an idea of frame rate, which is pretty good for me so far..     The details are in my sig ‘rigs’.:) although I will have to add a Roccat Kone + gaming mouse to that now, just got one, lovely :cool: These are both purely gaming pc’s nothing else on them, completely un-cluttered, it makes a massive difference I have found when gaming, especially this series of games. The fps can be significantly higher than anyone using the same machine for everyday use, with it full of clutter. I fully understand that its hard to afford a pc just for your games, but it does make a big difference, in the group I play in, everyone has a dedicated gaming pc, the best money you will spend, imo.. My rig for arma 2 is nothing special, just run of the mill gaming pc, bought new a couple of years ago, but its OC'ed a little, and tweaked here and there, and very lean. It can whoop arma's bottom, provided there are not 100's of ai in combat at one time..:D and of course with the right game settings.. Of course you need a decent card, which I believe I have in an unsung diamond, still holding its own against newer cards. I have one of the new ones in my other rig waiting for Arma 3, if it serves just as well, I would be happy, if better, then even happier..;) Don’t clutter it up, keep it lean and clean, pays you back in great performance, just my opinion. :)

    I understand the ‘rail’ format being preferred by some, even though I’m a massive fan of letting them do what they want (them of course being the ai), I would think its maybe a good idea to consider that type of arrangement for Arma 3. Spacing, speed and getting the ai from A-B for those who don’t want to spend the time making a mission and going over the routes to be used to know where problem points are, for them it would be a lot easier. I think its really not that bad as it stands at the moment, but there again, if it can be made better by back tracking a little to the past, then maybe that’s a good thing. That said, I wouldn’t want them to loose the freedom that makes the game what it is. When I see the ai inhabiting buildings the way they do when using GL4 (GL series are outstanding mods), spacing themselves out in the building, be it on several floors or balconies and rooftops, standing in windows, doorways etc, finding the best positions, then I think if that type of thing can be done for the ai, still whilst having the freedom to move from building to building or changing position within the building they are in, then the driving could well be improved. As I said in an earlier post, I have little problem when they are on safe mode, they will go where you want them to go, provided you check the route whilst making the mission. However in GL4, when an attack starts they generally keep position if they feel it’s the best position they have and fire from where they are, i.e. go into combat mode without getting lost or sidetracked. The driving could be done in a similar way whereas they either speed up if they feel they can outrun an attack or evacuate the vehicles altogether, to try to defend the vehicle or basically run for cover. I know that’s similar to how they do it now, but they all don’t evac the vehicles, some just drive around until they are picked off.

    Sorry @domokun, that question was aimed at the OP.;) However. I notice your using smaa, I use the fxaa (sharp filter) high settings with low ingame aa, gives very good results. Justs wondered if you had thoughts on smaa, tried that but it blurs a little and I don't like pp effects much so went down the fxaa route, how do you find smaa ? fxaa is pretty good on the fps as well. :)

  24. O.k bang goes my theory..:confused: A friend had msi-afterburner and did a kombuster check, seemed o.k. Came out of msi and went into arma 2 to have a play around in the editor, when he got in game the fps had dived and the performance was very poor. He then noticed the cpu temp (shown on the front of his case) had shot up to mid 50’s yet he hadn’t done anything really in-game yet. So he came out of the game, to see if the temps dropped, they didn’t. He then went into task manager to see what was running, the cores (he has 4) were; core 1 full flat out, the other three were bottom lined no activity at all. Seeing that he was not running anything other than the task man, he got pretty worried. Being the last thing he did he had a look at msi, everything seemed o.k. but he knew that before running kombuster his pc was fine. So he un-installed msi all together inc the kombuster, then re-booted. His temps dropped back to normal and when he went into the game his performance was back to the normal high. As he liked msi-afterburner for monitoring his fps, temps etc he re-installed from the site again. No further problems have occurred since, however, he will not use the Kombuster side now as he put it down to that.. But your cores look fine, and that’s in game is it ?
  25. Well to be fair it has been hot for the last couple of days or so:D. But its running too hot at idle, I think, should be in the 30's somewhere pos top end of 30's, 40 at most idle. Are all the fans working properly? GPU looks o.k. temp wise. Was the pc running this hot when you got it ? Have you got any task manager results regards performance across all the cores, can you have a look ?
