ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead doesn't use all available resources though it should
chrisb replied to rafikrafik007's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The correct place to have put your post here, is in the Sticky above ‘Low performance issues’ thread.. I would say the card is definitely not helping, it’s a little weak for A2. What fps are you getting in the E08 benchmark ? Although, best put the answer to that in the sticky thread above as mentioned, this will be closed soon, I think.. -
One and a quarter miles apart, firefights, get the binoculars out lads.. ____________________________________________________________________:681: is he dead yet! can't tell he's too far away..:p

Some may not be moving over to A3, I'm sure they would like this mod 'ready when its ready', rather than just rush it out now..;)

Looks great, good luck with the project.. -
Opinion: Too many opfor one shot -one kill weapons
chrisb replied to billsirkill's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Bill. I think if you added an ai mod that had configs to setup more accurately how effective various types of enemy units are, that should benefit your game-play. If you want intelligent ai that can be made a little more real via configs that cover a varied amount of ai skill sets, then have a look at my test vids linked in my sig (Intelligent AI). If they look to be the type of ai you want, then there is also a pbo list there. May help.. :) -
Arma 2 Addon request thread
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Go here and type ‘Wings Of Russia’ where it says 'query', there are quite a few associated mods, mainly all commercial airlines.:). -
Vehicles should be faster off road and in turns.
chrisb replied to JuggernautOfWar's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
There was a little fix for this a few years back, ‘Proper’ mod, ‘CarsFasterOffroads_Gameplay_C_OA_PR’ pbo. I have it, somewhere, can’t test it at the moment, not using the HDD it would be on. Not sure if it still works, never really used it, but it should be on Armaholic or Armed Assault under 'Proper' tweaks, maybe worth a try, not sure.. -
Have a look at the discussion here, between ‘doveman’ and myself, third from the bottom is the main one to look at.. I told @doveman about the same thing, I tell anyone looking for some fps increase to try out changing from vidmem ‘default’ to ‘v/high’, he saw a good increase. Its something over the years I stumbled across. Not sure why it happens, but it does. There are screenshots of fps bits and bobs, concerning fps increases. Problem is though some get texture issues using it that way, some don’t. I never got any texture problems for all the time I was on v/h which was years really. Its only recently over one of the last 3/4 beta’s I have noticed that I started to get the texture issue so I switched to ‘Default’ for vid mem, dropped a little fps, but I had the room for that. I think @doveman got the same, soon after he changed, so decided to change back. As said works for some and not for others, just one of those things.. I usually am 'certain' of anything I say concerning the game or indeed most things. I only say it if I have experienced it myself or seen it working..;) Same with the mouse thing, players should really take time to set a gaming mouse up, can impact game-play quite considerably, if they don't..:D Oh yes, v-sync off, I never have it on...

Stealthy, small scale skirmish type missions, doesn’t have to be SpecOps, just well organised small units. Up river missions at night are really immersive, some great game-play trying to destroy enemy radar, fuel installations, etc, quiet infiltration missions with random enemy patrols including using dogs, floodlights, sentries etc. Music, laughter and chatting coming from the enemy barracks, dogs barking and the occasional sound of traffic. The enemy being noisy and unsuspecting, whilst the infiltration force being quiet and stealthy, sneaking in and sneaking out (if possible), may not even be a shot fired on some occasions, just a timer ticking away until a big bang, in the mean time a frantic race back to the boat before that happens, hopefully without getting noticed.. Its great either way, if you get spotted and engaged or manage to complete without being spotted. Simple missions like that are marvellous in A2, hope A3 delivers the same. Big or small, its all good in this series, well so far..

I am using the Steam 'big picture' feature on the 'web' setting to have a look at the forum here. As I am completely new to this whole Steam thing, I have to say so far its pretty good. Just linked my youtube, straight forward, just got to put a game on now, that of course will happen this coming week ..;)

Found this an interesting read.. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/28/czech-out-bohemia-talk-arma-3-alpha/

I’m certainly not on my own for seeing an boost in fps, makes a real difference from ‘Default’ to ‘Very High’, still does for me, but as I said texture popping issues made me use ‘Default’ after so many years on VH. But certainly there is a fps boost. Regards the mouse, so many players take little notice of their mouse controls, which is a shame because it can cause real problems in a game, but there again, if you don’t experience any of these things, then that’s a bonus for you..;)

Well I spent a little time thinking about it and can honestly say BIS never donated to my business:(, so I’ll not be donating to theirs.:D Not as if that will bother them in the slightest, I’m buying the game, they will be more that happy with that, so will I, great, we’re both winners..:p If you want to donate, send a donation to the two guys that were stuck in Greece for so long, to help go towards their legal costs..:butbut:

Its always been the case with this game, concerning systems, just luck of the draw, as they say.. Its down to how you set your system up and knowing where the limitations are. If you expect the highest settings for everything, then you will probably be disappointed, if you expect to mix settings, then you’ll probably be pleasantly pleased.. Thats how its always been with this series. That’s where OFPElite had it down, on the original xbox, you played and enjoyed, instead of worrying regards settings, it was pretty basic, but I enjoyed it for that. Seventy ai max limit, draw in the fog and play, marvellous stuff. Spend a fortnight on the pc playing with settings to try and get the same experience.. Great editor too considering the system restraints. Anyway, A2 v A3, be the same old story, tweaking, tweaking, tweaking….;)

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I use mainly 2000 on the ground, more if it’s a very open terrain, but 2000 is usually more than enough, city fighting take it down to 1000 if need be. Regards in the air, as much as you can usually, if your high enough you can max it out. I run 7000 in the air if there is any combat going on, or if I’m sightseeing I will set it to 10000. One of the nicest ways to sightsee is flying around in a ‘Mozzie’, it’s a great little thing for setting your missions up if you need to test anything, especially watching how ai deal with certain area’s. -
Will there be a boxed version of Arma 3 Supporter Edition?
chrisb replied to Franking's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
No it will be digital download. I am the same as you, always want a boxed version. But I’m too excited at the prospect of A3, not to get in early on this Alpha. I will buy the Supporters Edition, but later on I will end up buying a boxed version, just to satisfy my need for a ‘real’ copy!;) -
Get the game, see how it performs then if your card is anything like my A2 pc card HD5850 2gb, it should OC really well. I am running my 5850 at 7850 standard clock speeds, they really do OC great. Just take it up 10 on each, go in game for a short test, once you get any odd behaviour i.e. onscreen artifacts, freezing that you haven’t had before, then knock it down the previous ten and leave it there (do it on both, mem & clock). That all said, you may be able to run it fine on your card at medium settings as it is, if they improved things as they said they would.:)

Many thanks ‘Moricky’ for your reply, it was very much appreciated. Its great news to me that the full 2D editor will be in A3, plus new tweaks and other bits, really happy and reassured now, will be buying the Supporter Edition for sure.:). Thanks also ‘bobtom’, for your reply, I needed some reassurance. I am always in the Editor making missions, I'm only ever out of the editor, when I'm playing those missions..;)

We get the odd BIS developer on the forums here, don’t mean that type of odd. Could one of them reassure me of something, in the cleverly worded Arma 3 website for the 'Supporter Edition' of the early release game, it states there is a 'Scenario Editor'. Now in Arma 2 we have a Scenario editor via the Scenario section, i.e. into Scenario/my missions/create, there’s a small weaker editor there to make quick scenario type missions. Now the main ‘Editor’ in Arma 2 is, well the main editor, click it via single player mode. Now, that is a powerful full editor very unlike the scenario one. Could someone from BIS confirm that the clever wording ‘Scenario Editor (FULL)', doesn’t just mean the small scenario editor we have in A2 under the scenario section.. Too many scenario’s…:j: Will there be the usual full ‘Editor’, not scenario editor, in the early releases or is it for the main release, or dread the thought, is it not going to be a part of Arma 3 at all ? I know they have said there will be an editor, just making sure its the main one and not the small scenario thingy jiggy editor thing in scenario. Actually thinking about that now, makes me remember that it was similar to OFPElite for the xbox 'editor', that was more a scenario type editor, good for the xbox, but no good for the pc.. I’m all scenario’ed out………...:(
-
In A2 we have the Scenario Editor, via the ‘Scenario’ section, into ‘My Missions’ and then ‘Create’, there you can make simple missions via that simple editor. However the main mission Editor the bottom option called simply ‘Editor’. Now the fact they said a scenario editor, I have a nasty feeling they mean the weak/small version used in the scenario section.. There’s a big difference between the two, no I’ll correct that, there’s a massive difference between the two..:butbut: Both however are Editor’s.. If there is no main 'Editor', that would mean, for me, no purchase:(. I have never played any BIS made campaigns, build my own for our group and for our ongoing campaign and that would need the full 'Editor' not the small weaker version.. Sounds bleak when they mention 'Scenario' Editor:(..
-
Seem to be asking this everywhere, is there going to be a full Mission Editor in these first releases, it just states the Scenario editor on the website in the Supporters Edition, anyone know ?
-
I'm drooling, but just a little..:o.
-
Sorry completely wrong thread !:o
-
I have a HD5850 2gb and am getting alot more than 20-30fps in towns or anywhere with A2CO.. Don't think that's your card doing that.. At the specs they are saying, it could run on my A2 pc, which would be a bit of a waste of money for me..:(
-
Maybe someone will know here, it says the Scenario Editor is available in the Supporters Edition but nothing regards the 'Editor' itself, i.e. the full mission editor, will that be included or is there not to be a mission editor in A3 at all ?
