    Elite: Dangerous

I worry if FD will be able to support reliable MP connection. Its taken a few hours to get in the game since the update 1.01 and once I got in, I had 5mins play out of 30mins, just kept dropping the connection.. Pretty sad at the moment, really hope they get this sorted by the 16th Dec.

They are going to rely on sales to support, via dlc and other ways, that's pretty much a certain thing, if we want to see the game supported for a long period of time.. I don't mind that, provided they are up-front with it. But the events of recent, doesn't fill me with confidence.. I know dlc's are set to be paid for (although for me as a backer, I think they're free), but I have no problem with buying extra good content. But I can see more 'charge for' items coming later, perhaps. With the excuse that, without these, the game stops being supported. But we'll see.
  4. So many great people out there playing this series, with huge amounts of talent in certain areas, would help BI. But in the real world, it is the same with anything, be it a game or any other form of creative process or anything. There is always someone out there, that is better at doing the same thing. Doesn't mean the two shall ever meet, unfortunately. Or indeed want to meet..;)

    Battle Command

For me it is sort of similar to where ASL got with Vassal, in some cases with certain groups. It could be a very immersive experience, in a totally different way to this series. But for me, much of what can be done in these large scale war-gaming worlds, can be done here in this series, but even better here. Micro manage units, you can't do that in these larger scale war games.. This series is more personal when it comes to conflict and war.. I enjoy that far more nowadays..:)

    arma 2 to PS4/Xbox One

You would be surprised how well they did get everything to work so easily on the original xbox. It was the easiest I have ever played this series, but it was so restricted by unit numbers, that really you could only have fun with the editor rather than use it in earnest. I don't play the campaigns of any of these in the series. Its just for the editor I play and if the xbox had not had the restrictions, I would certainly have played the game much more on the xbox. As it was, it never really took off that well, for me anyway. But they made a great job of it. I appreciate all gaming platforms (o.k. mainly the pc), but they all have something to offer and when BI put OFPElite on the xbox, it was a triumph imo. Certainly for the console form of gaming, its a shame it was really badly received by so many un-knowledgeable pro reviewers. I think many would look back and think now, well it was actually pretty marvellous, what BI achieved. A game on a console that allowed you to make as many small combat scenarios you wanted, with a huge amount of resources, not as many as we have here in the pc world of this series, but for a console, it was way ahead of any rivals, in-fact it didn't have any good rivals, even now on the console there would not be a good rival to OFPElite.

Something they have to look at, I think. But so far its looking o.k. ED, should be fun to play once all the wipes stop and we can earn without fear of going back to almost zero. I certainly wish this game lots of luck, I'll enjoy it, I hope.

Newsletter 49 and the statement contained within regards 'offline' mode, will haunt FD (DB in particular), for quite some time.

He had little choice after the BBC got hold of it and ran an article about the community going nuts regards no 'offline'..

    Opinions on Windows 8?

I run win8.1, the only thing I would like better than this really, is to go back to win7. I do not like win8.1.:( 7 seemed so much easier to get around. Could be my age of course..:o

Why not have a try of Evochron Mercenary (if you haven't already), I say this to a lot of people who like the Elite game format. It has everything in there and more. Just not quite the same graphics, but the game-play is pretty good, on the whole:).

Just have to make sure they support the game now, not just for a year or so but a few years. They don't have a track record for mp, I don't think, so this is the time to get a statement out regards the longevity of the servers etc. FD are a public co, no financial benefit, no support.. :( Just how long will that take to be of a concern to them, or more-so the players..

    This War of Mine

I looked at this and thought, yep that is certainly a different angle for this genre. But this crafting type thing is not really my thing. :( Instead I picked up a light and frothy 'Frozen Synapse Prime', to be fair it isn't a bad little tactical game, not great but worth a few hours here and there. First put onto a hand held I think, now for the pc too.. ;)

    Gaming Industry

We're all consumers, we buy what we want at the time. Sometimes it doesn't work out well, sometimes it does, but we all have the same, huge amount, of reviews we can look at. So really, if we can't wait for reviews or get carried along with something, then its our own choice, if that turns out a wrong choice, its our own fault. No business can hold your hand whilst you shop.. We can and do moan about things afterwards (human nature), but we could have made a different choice, it was there for us.. buy or don't buy..

    arma 2 to PS4/Xbox One

OFP'Elite was for the original xbox and it was a very good game. However, the limitations were in the editor i.e. 70 units if I recall correctly, an aircraft counted as 3 units, I think. It had the three main islands or was it four (can't remember now) and there was of course the campaign (I don't play the campaigns, just need the editor). But overall it was great using the editor very simple straight forward controls, so maybe they could put a version onto console again. Campaign wise I think the game could easily be put onto console, its the rest that comes along with this series that you could miss out on. There was one later for xbox360 (Dragon Rising) but that wasn't BI really (at the end). Plus there was no editor on release, but it has had one added since, I think. BI could try, with the new era consoles, if they really wanted too now I suppose, but it would still have restrictions compared to the pc version..
  17. Take your time, there is no rush. Looks great as always..

    Goodbye, ArmA 2!

In a decades time, players of mil/sim type games will look back at A2CO and probably think, that was, and still is, the one game to beat for mil/sim realism. Of course it has to be modded for AI and to have many types of vehicles, infantry, aircraft, islands etc, but the beauty is, its all there available for the player. The movement system isn't as good as A3, but its still holds up when using SMK, plus of course ST_movement to help avoid those doorway problems (I used these mods in the past, really good). I won't ever leave A2CO behind, its far too good, much better in immersive game-play for me than A3 could ever be. But its personal choice, most all of the players I know have either stuck with A2CO or come back to it after playing A3 for some time. I will be testing in A3 soon for an AI mod, but it still isn't to the standard of A2CO with modded AI. Also I want the enemy dead in a single 'good' shot, rather than having to use another 4 shots in some cases to get the result. I don't want to stick a jab in my leg and go back to normal if I'm seriously injured, I want to be airlifted out and watch as my team (on many occasions a modded AI team) get me out of the action and to safety, even having to keep enemy at bay. I don't want an AI team just engage when the odd's are stacked against them, I want them to assess the situation and get to their wp, even if that means falling back and going around the enemy. I don't want to see endless move forward at any cost, I want to see teams fall back if needs be, then far flank left or right or call support, whatever it needs for the situation but to try and stay alive. I want convoys to run properly, heli's to stay out of harms way and fire from a distance if at all possible, plus once hit to assess the damage and return to base if that is what is needed and send in another heli. I want armour to get out of the action if hit and damaged too badly, for teams to set up medical tents to the rear for injured. Have teams communicate with one another and form sensible attacks, to bring in support when needed. Have all troops on the ground to use buildings effectively inc doorways and windows, to use cover and go to cover (hard cover if available) and to use it well and plan a responce rather than just go straight in. For all units to use correct stance for whatever they're doing. To use smoke grenades, grenades, launchers, etc in a human-like effective way, combine smoke and suppression effectively. To be picked up from a mission by a boat up-river or coastline, or accurate heli pick-up. Team mates to drag their wounded to safety and attend them or evac them out if they can (that may mean a couple of team members moving to the rear with the injured to call in evac). I want teams to carry out surveillance and report info back. I want all that and soo much more, its all there for A2CO. That's all AI teams I talk of there, not human players. Can't do any of that in A3 with vanilla, or modded AI that's readily available. They (AI) just forget about the injured and move on. Yes, you can mod it, but it still isn't to the standard of modded A2CO AI, which can and will do all of the above plus much more, that's only a fraction of what they can do in-mission. Nope I won't be saying goodbye to A2CO anytime soon..:D I play A3, but really its testing for others. For an immersive mission, I always come back to A2CO, you simply can't beat it imo.. I still understand why players want to move on. But I've been pc gaming, no, war-gaming, for so long, that once I found something I wanted for years.. and that was Arma (1) for me (at release), then onto A2, then through to A2CO, (the best of the series when you have them all inc dlc's), I just could not give that up easily. I would give it up, if A3 had proved to be A2CO+1, but it doesn't for me, its simply made easier for mainstream players, with much of the immersive factor, took out. Yes tvt/pvp can be great in A3, but once you include AI to carry out any part in your mission, your stumped, there isn't an AI mod that does it justice in A3. There are some good AI mods for A3, but they don't achieve what other mods can for A2CO, just a fact really.. But who cares, its all personal opinion and depends on how you play or who you play the game with. For me, I'm just really pleased we still have A2CO and the support of mod/addon makers that still make it 'the' mil/sim style game to beat...............:bounce3: That said all of the above requires mission making and using the Editor, if you don't want to do that, then perhaps A3 is a better alternative, because most all good AI mods, require you to make your own missions, using those AI mods in mind for a unique mil/sim gaming experience..

    Trying to enjoy ARMA3

The 'Editor'.... Learn to love it.. It will open this series up for you like you've never seen before. Its not hard to use and will make this game/series anything you want it to be, with the help of some mod/addons, even moreso. Small missions, to a whole gaming world, the best is really only available via the 'Editor' and no you don't need scripting knowledge, it helps, but you don't need it, there are simple command/script lines available off the shelf (if you like), to put into the init field, that will make big changes to the game. Turn it into something much greater.. Why is using the Editor the best way to play, because it will give you, your minds eye view of the game 'you' want to play. Exactly how you want to play it. Just my opinion.. Slogan: Give a good home to the BI 'Editor', it deserves it... Love it and keep it warm..;):p

Cosmos Engine; This Mod Blew Me Away

A little more sci/fi I think, than KSP or Orbiter. But early days yet, perhaps that will change.

    2000+ Hours

Well if we're talking hours in A3, then I'll have a look............. Ahh, 43.. :p A2 on the other hand, lost count..;) Although I may be spending more time with A3 in the near future.

Cosmos Engine; This Mod Blew Me Away

I got it working with the second download. The only problem is it crashed after I got into space and now it won't load the mod without crashing. But I'll persevere with it and see if I can sort it out. Its very impressive anyway, I like the idea:). This mixed with planet landings (small areas), i.e. islands that the series has available in official and player made islands (I have around 300 I think), could be really something special. Although of course all islands would not be usable, but if it was a stand alone mod and setup as it is now, I would have thought many of the islands could be usable. Or am I getting ahead of myself here. Maybe, or hopefully, we may see more of this mod and BI pick it up at some stage and run with it a little. Space is huge at the moment, pun intended..:D
