chrisb replied to killernetworkgaming's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - TOTAL MODIFICATION
This comment I can't understand.. I.e. only 7 posts can't be able to mod Arma.. Really.. Whatever leads you to that conclusion ?? Its not mandatory to be here to mod the game you know.. -
Great stuff..:D

Why I will never buy any of your games ever again.
chrisb replied to bez's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm lucky in that I don't have performance issues that stop me playing with good game-play. However its a very valid point the OP has, so he's entitled to air his views. -
My opinion about the ArmA 3 mod community
chrisb replied to Arma3goodCPUlowFPS's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Before people hang the OP, we have to remember everyone has a view. If he/she has an opinion and wants to share that, then here on the forum is the best place for it, being that this forum is all about this series. Some mod/addon makers instantly dismiss people that raise topics that, lets be honest, could have been written in a little less 'matter of fact'ish' way, but if the language isn't your first (English) then it may come over wrong, not sure that is the case here or not. But as said, some mod/addon makers do dismiss 'too quickly' sometimes, another players view, maybe rightly, because that mod/addon makers opinion is also as valid. But lets be clear, it is no more valid, than the OP's opinion. We all have our own view. I get what the OP is saying, if you play real world type missions/scenarios then the lack of, or the excess of something, can seem a problem. I play fictional factions, US, RU etc are all different to what they were made for. So it doesn't really matter if there are various mods of the same faction, they can be split and used however we want. So his issue, is not an issue, for me and those I play the game with, but I'm sure there will be some players that feel the same as the OP, although may not air their thoughts here. There are however, numerous factions, via mods, that are available for the players, thanks largely to the mod/addon making community, they can be found here and elsewhere (google). So perhaps a search is all the OP needed to do first, but its here now, so lets discuss it or not. Regards paying for mod/addons. My view has always been the same, I'd be quite happy to pay for a good mod/addon, I've said it a few times. However, its not allowed, so there is where it ends. Further than that is for BI to decide, or indeed the mod/addon maker concerned, if action is to be taken against people abusing the way things work. I just think mod/addon makers, make these things for themselves and some are generous enough to share, which we all appreciate and thank them for. However this doesn't, from my point of view, give them any more say here, than a player that simply plays the game. Without players, there would be no game anyway, ask BI.. ;), :) -

chrisb replied to ronhillultra's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - ADDON
Reminds me of Sauerland & Taviana (dayz version). Nice terrain though, good luck with it.:) -
Ah, now then, light at the end of the tunnel.. Well for market research purposes, I would like to see a sequel to A2CO. A good one. ;)

Would be good if you put down what your thoughts are concerning the war strategy game, first.:)

Another mess, at the cost of many lives. Politicians! they should be front line first, then perhaps they'd think twice. Our western lives seem far more important, as to those living elsewhere, why that is, is anyone's guess.. 18,000 just sad  :( why??? The troops that gave their lives come home in a coffin with the flag draped over, as it should be, very respectful. They have a respectful service and burial. Many of those families then start to ask why, they need a clear answer, which of course, they're never given. However, most civilians in this type of war zone, get pushed into a hastily dug 'dust hole' in the ground with 20 other corpses, lucky to be wrapped in an old blanket, with very few words, just misery for those left behind. They also ask why and never get the answer. I'm not against war, in some cases its all that's left. But war should be for a legitimate reason, that reason needs to be made very clear to those risking everything going over to fight and also to those that are civilians, who usually have little choice in the matter.

Many thanks again S@ndbob, can't wait to have a look, DL'ing now. Just what your great terrain needed. Happy New Year to you & I hope your Christmas was merry.:) -
I play some of that Frozen Synapse Prime occasionally, its turn based with a fixed map. Its not bad because its small groups, up to 6. Good little game for now and then.

I don't know what you know, I don't really know of the people you mention, other than D Hall, produced a way to play A2 differently, which led onto a pretty bad standalone game, BI released. The mod was good for those who liked it, but it was a mod, hardly a game, in-fact when it became a game or early release lets say, it sort of failed (imo). To answer your question, no I have not produced a game or mod. For what its worth, my work/business up until a few years ago, was producing large luxury bespoke 'items' from the workshop floor, up to finished item ready for use. These were items that had to be inspected independently and certificated (x3) for use. A very complicated process. I employed many highly skilled people, when I say highly skilled, I mean highly skilled craftsmen and women, all doing many various skilled tasks on a daily basis. These people are rare to find, but still would not be given the title of iconic or even want to be described that way. They are simply highly skilled working people, myself included. I know of no serious business, that I have dealt with, in over 30yrs, that would describe themselves in such a way. As said, I did that for 30yrs, up until selling the business. That perhaps, is partly why using words as they do there, in that second video, I simply can't take seriously, I see nothing iconic in them or PR in general. Videos for Squad so far, offer little in information, I thrive on info, if its good, I'll back and support it given that chance. But they need to tell us what it is and why its different, when I say different, I mean from what is already available here & now. What is 'Squad' why would I buy it/play it, what does it offer, it can't offer a better PR, because PR isn't a game. So what is the game 'Squad' what does it offer ?? Also, a mod maker is simply a person who alters, to varying degrees, the way something operates, a small part of the whole item, i.e. they didn't build the thing, they simply modified it to operate differently. That's mod making, look at it however you will, yes you need a skill, but that's it. But to hype yourself or others up this way, does no one any favours. Say talented instead, but show the work first, then people will judge for themselves. Never use 'iconic' as a description for yourself or others, that would be near impossible to live up to. I give up..:( perhaps to you, these people are iconic.. who knows, only you.. I've met many very talented highly skilled people, employed many over the years, people with the abilities to produce highly skilled bespoke work. These people would never even contemplate calling themselves, or even have others call them, 'iconic'. Just seems bizarre to me, self indulgent.

how does arma 3 feel to you ? (as of update 1.36)
chrisb replied to cptprice's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
To the original OP: Empty. Void of any point. ;) -
I can't begin to think what pleasure it brought you..;)
-
Its unfortunate the video or video's don't reveal much.:( Its also unfortunate, being 'iconic', does not give you the ability to tell us what the game is all about or even what the content might be.. What is Squad ? anyone. Let me put forward my suggestion, not that it means much and it may not be the case, however... Its about a group of disgruntled mod makers that believe themselves to be 'iconic' and think they can produce a game on a par with, either this series, or BF2. If that's the case.. Good luck.. You'll need it..;)

So quick update. Keen the devs for Space Engineers have just introduced infinite space (well almost). 150,000,000,000km of space to explore. PG asteroids (huge numbers, plus fields), floating/abandoned ships' stations, platforms etc to explore and use/mine. Build an empire or just a settlement. True sandbox with endless possibilities it seems. They are working on AI at the moment, plus the MP community moving ahead with the new content, should prove a little more interesting now. Planets may come with landings later (fingers crossed). Also player made content is getting added as part of the game, (submit designs, get them in-game). Not simply mods, but actually in-game too. I know few here bother with SE, however, if your into sandbox type games and you want one in the space genre, its well worth a buy. That, plus it gives far greater playability than ED or SC/AC at the moment and probably will remain that way if they keep to this route. Still early access, but lots planned. 64bit too which is great for my system, uses what I have nicely. If game-play is what your after and graphics take a back seat, then SE is well worth a look.;) Just a thought, combine Arena Commander with Euro Truck Sim 2 and you have ED.

AI shooting through hills, houses and walls - Impressions of the game
chrisb replied to strelnikoff's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I think its fair that we choose what we hide in carefully. Open grass land, i.e. the lower grass is not for hiding. But undergrowth/scrubland type longer weed's etc are o.k. But even then you have to choose carefully. Do ai really see that much through longer grass/weeds, not for me here in A2CO on Chernarus, using the mod mix I use. This is not vanilla ai in the video, but I can use this type of scrubland weeds, for concealment. Even so, its not great unless its evening or night really, this is morning just after 9.00am. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQYyY1V-VzE -
AI shooting through hills, houses and walls - Impressions of the game
chrisb replied to strelnikoff's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I don't play A3 much, so can't really talk for that. However the seeing through bushes, buildings, walls etc, just didn't happen for me in A2/A2CO, BAF, ACR etc. I have done tests on my YT channel showing that ai don't see through things ( for me anyway). Now if that has changed a great deal in A3, I don't know, because I'm never in the game that long to find out. Driving wise, it is a part from SLX that I use for ai driving, works great, provided you plan their route wisely. Didn't really have many problems when I used that. Another issue players mentioned a while back concerning A2, was the instant detection of the player on detonating explosives. Again I have tests on YT showing that I didn't have that problem either. Some of these problems I believe, could be system related. Regards ai tracking your movement when you go behind a wall or something solid. They do track, but provided you don't appear where they think your going to, then you tend to be o.k. It is a problem that they track movement from inside buildings, it can be a little off putting, tends to happen with heli's or armoured vehicles. But its easy enough to catch out an ai unit in a building by going around and coming at them from the back. So they can't track movement when they don't know your there, or they would be stood waiting for you to appear, surely.;) Now if all this has changed in A3, then BI have stepped back instead of forward ai behaviour wise. Edit: I should add that I play user made missions not the campaign, so can't speak for those either. -
