So I'm drifting a little here. Your saying that Steam WS allow modders to sell mod/addons ? Of course this depends on an agreement with the game devs ? -
Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow
chrisb replied to infiltrator_2k's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Prior to the mod I use for AI now. I used a mix of GL3/4,SLX,Zeus plus some scripts etc for AI in A2. That mix doesn't work well in A3, in fact it doesn't really work at all to the degree it did in A2. Still, all that is way behind what I/we use now anyway, which is one complete mod with no need to mix or match. Also it fits perfectly to our game-play style/type. Wandering off topic again, sorry OP. I'll stop now..:o -

No need to address my post. You replied using a general observation that achieving the way I or we as a group play, is possible in A3. I just assured you it wasn't. Unfortunately the mod I use for AI was pulled for A3 and is only available for A2CO now. That plus many terrains we use are not adapted for A3 to use with the AI mod. Plus there is lots of content still to be ported and some will never get ported over. But we're wandering off topic. Sorry to the OP for that, from my part. (my sig is a little misleading, the logo thing is taken from their members site, I can't change it. But it is only for A2CO now) -

Unfortunately that's not true, your basing it off the fact you use mod/addons/scripts etc probably most from here or AH. That is, as I said, the problem with the narrow view of the player base here, there is much more within groups out there, that are specific to a game, developed for that game. Those things you can't simply walk away from, especially when they give you a much greater gaming experience. Doesn't revolve around graphics, lighting etc or the perceived fault's in the movement system from the previous game/s. Certainly not for me anyway, it revolves around game-play, the better mil/sim I/we can achieve. That unfortunately isn't with A3. We use AI a lot in our gaming, it needs to be very good (really good), fairly independent and pretty reliable, nothing in A3 approaches that level, unfortunately. But there are many other things too, not to mention terrains that make up our gaming world. Its a whole different subject. A3 is years behind A2CO and will remain so for some time, 'content wise'. But that is to be expected. Just fact, sorry to dim your view, but yours is a simplistic way to look at this series.. There is a lot of groups playing out there that run their own stuff. A3 doesn't fit the bill for that type of realistic gaming, not talking movement, graphics but content and the way the game can be changed to fit the gaming group. A3 isn't there yet, it may become that in a few years, who knows. Not for now though. -

I am certainly no fan of the setting of A3. However, when and where its set is of no real importance, its BI that decide, so we have little to do with their decision. Also some/many, as the OP suggests, may be bored of playing against ill equipped Taliban, Insurgents, in fact Opfor of most kinds, to be fair. They’re all pretty well ill equipped on that side. Those players should re-think things a little. We’re playing a game, not an ideology, religion, country, whatever else. So play as the underdog ‘equipment wise’, if your bored. The challenge is in beating the game, which will obviously be your opponent in the game at the time, Blufor, Opfor, Independent. That’s the aim of the game. We’re not beating an actual people, country or element within society. Beating the better equipped side is much harder, but also much more fun and challenging, try it out. Further to spinning of poll’s etc here on the forums. This always happens, there is a feeling within this community, that this forum is ‘the’ arma series community. But really, in number, it’s a fraction of the player base. What players really want or think of the game, are shown in sales. I don’t like the A3 settings, but obviously there is a huge number that do, possibly millions. So my/our concerns, although valid from our own points of view, are pretty insignificant really and do not paint a picture of the actual player base of A3 or this whole series. The vast majority of the player base aren’t even on here. Back to topic. For me I love a modern warfare setting, not for who the factions are, but for the weaponry, equipment, faction setup (not what nationality, ideology, religion they may represent). Its just has to be modern/present day'ish. With that, I/we can put down the format for a really good mil/sim style gaming world, which A2, Arrowhead or A2CO is and does. That’s why I stick with that game really and the playing group I play with do the same. Some of our group play A3, as sometimes I do, but when it comes to a good mil/sim experience I always turn to A2CO, modded of course. Just for that whole modern day'ish war-gaming feel, plus the mod/addons/scripts etc we use, all run really well with that format. I'm not sure if BI have captured a theme of modern warfare set just 20 years from now. I'll let you know in 20 years. But for me, no, its just not my thing, may not be the setting, just the game as a whole. We were spoilt in A2CO.;) If there is to be an A4, I would love to see it come back to a modern setting, not backward or forward, just present day'ish. But I know that it will make no difference to what BI decides, its up to them. We still have previous games in the series we can return too. Unfortunately at the moment we have no alternative, but that may change in the furture. -

I'm not totally sure its just Opfor.. ;) -
Its just the Daily Mail, being the Daily Mail, that's all we need to know really..

Whether you come to play, script, mod, program or whatever.. Its nice to see new members.. Welcome.:)

I have the island, just not looked at it yet. However from the vid/pics it looks really nice. It could be good for those that use the sea more in A3, underwater etc. My only major problem with it is, its not made for A2CO, then it would have been perfect, of course.. Plus I'd get to play it often. ;) Still, I sightsee in A3, so looking forward to doing that instead.
-
Its great to see A2CO still getting love from talented mod/addon makers. Its much appreciated by the players I'm sure, certainly by me. Thanks.

Another great release. Thanks for sharing this and all the hard work the team have put in. :)

Next they'll be bringing Pathe News back. Although to be fair, we have the BBC, which of course is the same thing..:( We gave them a 'Jolly good thrashing', think Pathe News voice... Propaganda, its been around forever..

The Pakistani's got the confession out of a prisoner they caught, much in the same way as the US get information out or their prisoners. Can it be relied on, is the question..;)

A big part of disabling ISIS would be to try and cut off money supply. However, it seems no one told US banks, probably banks in other western countries too. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/isis-funding-routed-through-us-claims-islamic-state-commander-pakistan-1485622 Where money is concerned, banks are the first to turn a blind eye.. US need to jump on this, but of course they won't, its banks after all..

Is a few weekends worth of work worth half a million Euro?
chrisb replied to skelig's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - GENERAL
I haven't kept up on this at all. Have the finalists already been picked ? Anyway. The money could have been spent better (imo) paying 'many' talented mod/addon makers for their work, on a scale system. But only the work that improves the game overall, not to try and find another DayZ. There are mods out there that change A3, help the base game, play better. It would have encouraged more of these people to turn their hand to making those mod/addons that improve the gaming experience. I mean the base game of war/combat, not zombies, dinosaurs, etc but ones that help the base game improve. Think of the highest/max amount/payment, say 500 euro payments made to lots of makers that improve further the series. Plus lots & lots of further smaller payments being made to smaller mod/addons that impact well on the game. Not one single competition, but an ongoing thing for a few years. That could have meant the amount being spread between a few thousand talented people making these things over time. Seems a waste and a gimmick, or an excuse to find the next 'DayZ'. Good luck to whoever wins though, it was a competition you could enter, so why not. BI could have done a little better though and helped more people create more stuff. Just in my view. So yes I do, partly, agree with the OP. Edit: just a thought, is the cosmos engine mod in the finalists ? -
The emphasis is on 'bringing them home safe'. Which to me, just seems like propaganda. Appeal to the generation that is growing up invincible in video games, tell them they're going to be the same when they actually join up for real and go and face real danger. That way they'll keep that eternal supply they need of young men & women willing to die, whoops, sorry that's the wrong information getting out, I mean survive with this magic kit. For nothing other than lost causes in many cases, and indeed causes that are manufactured in others.. If those that really believed so strongly in these 'causes', were really that committed, they would be the first out there, showing the way. They never are.. Its a case of 'its great to be a hero', but you go and do it. Or Its 'great to be a martyr', but you go and do it. Lead by example, then others may follow that example. Make one to fit politicians and those with vested interests, you know, weak at the knee's.

How effective Arma 3 really is at AI + simulation + terrain, for better understanding
chrisb replied to St. Jimmy's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
That would be right, based on groups of eight. Of course you could have 1152 of all factions, which would be quite a few if you include civilians (doubt they count those), but certainly Independents. But really, I never go that far with AI on the terrain. It is possible to run quite a number with the sim/man or a cache system, provided you don't meet hundreds at a time. Not that you couldn't, many systems would take it. But it would be pretty useless because if your playing using AI (we do), then they would be simple target practise, with little in the way of any sense, because you would be running too many at once. I would have thought they may have stopped a limit, as its really not needed because systems would decide. However, the series has always been o.k. regards amounts on pc. The only really low restriction was for OFPElite (orig xbox), which was a limit of 70 if I recall correctly. -

chrisb replied to St. Jimmy's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Terrain VR: Empty other than AI & me. Total on the terrain was 2289. There seems to be a max of 1152 units per side! I removed 2 groups of 8 units from each side giving the above total (inc me). Res: 1920 x 1080 @ 16:10 FSAA: 4x AA ATOC: all grass & trees PPAA: disabled AF: Ultra Sampling: 100% Texture: Ultra Objects: Ultra Terrain: Ultra Shadow: Ultra Particles: High Cloud: Ultra PIP: Disabled HDR: Standard Dynamic Lights: Low Overall VD: 3000 Object: 1736 Shadow: 100 2288 AI one simple move waypoint@ These are on the terrain 6.7km from me. Just as it is (Preview): 7.7 fps average over 5mins With Simulation Manager Module set @ 2000 radius: 193.9 fps average over 5mins (obviously they are there, the units, but they're not there, until they get within the radius, just sort of cache thing..;)). Edit: I should point out, the settings are as they are, because they are my standard settings for A3. Other than the VD which is usually 5000. I do remove grass/clutter every now and then depending on mission and/or testing i.e. terrain @ low. But not here it was set @ Ultra as said. Always use your sim/man if you want to use large numbers, set the radius to whatever suits your team/squad i.e. more if you have a sniper, less if not.. But beware they will lose any AI mod behaviour you might be running, well the ones I've tested they do. -
Are you complaining about Arma 3? You need to watch this video.
chrisb replied to ajsarge's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Oh, its been reinstated. This video montage of sycophantic, patronising, misleading nonsense. I would imagine its less than 0.5% that complain of the total ‘whole’ player community of Arma 3 (that isn’t just this community:rolleyes:), that would be everyone playing the game and there must be over a million players perhaps, maybe more. The video, if its not aimed at his own group, is just misleading and patronising. If it is aimed at his own group, then why is it here, because it would be a group issue.. The vast majority play and enjoy the game, with the occasional rant, moan or complaint from the really small minority. This minority can sometimes raise issues regards the game (not always, but sometimes), that are pertinent.
