Secret police "Black Site" in Chicago: They just disappear
chrisb replied to oxmox's topic in OFFTOPIC
Unfortunately its only going to get worse for the citizens of the US. But it won't stop there of course, its happening all over the world. Its pretty uncertain times for all of us. -
Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
chrisb replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Regards your proposed pc. No one can tell if it will run fine or not, that's something we all find out after trying. However, I had for my A2 pc an Athlon IIx4 640 with a HD5850 2gb and it ran A2 great (its retired now). I put A3 on it at alpha release and ran tests, there are a few of those tests still on my channel. This is one here.. I recorded tests using msi-afterburner which would knock a good 20-30fps off the recording, but details are in many of the videos anyway. Will that 860k run A3, nobody could tell you for sure, but just look around at test videos on YT for the same or similar pc's. Then you have to make your decision based on that..;) -
Upcoming tactical shooter from Blackfoot Studios: Ground Branch
chrisb replied to Tactical Jerky's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I looked on the GB forum (I do from time to time). They have put in for this grant that Unreal are giving to devs of innovative projects, who use the engine and have a project that is advanced enough. Ground Branch is one title that should hopefully fill that requirement. It is quite a large pot Unreal are giving out so fingers crossed for Blackfoot for them to get some of that pot. It seems that lack of funds is one of the reasons for the games very long development. This of course is understandable if they are not taking in money other than donated towards the project. I wrote a while back that many players (me included) would be happy to buy into a pre Alpha, one level, type promo. I have paid small and large amounts to get into many early access games, obviously only the ones I am very keen on. I would be happy, as I have already said, to do the same for this project. I hope that, even if they don't get that funding from Unreal, they try and push out a early access small level promo and charge players to get into the game 'very early'. They admit they need funds to get it going more quickly, so Blackfoot please consider it. Many players (I'm pretty sure) here playing this series would love a good CQB tactical title like GB to add to their game collection. Even if that cost was between £50-100 to get in early. It would help fund it more to help development costs and also get some videos out there on YT to show it off. I hope they get their grant, if not, I hope they consider taking very early access funding from the players, many titles do it and many players invest in titles that appeal to them. I know they are quite some way along already, but that final push to get it out, maybe its needed financially, players are waiting to help with early access, I'm sure. Good luck anyway with the grant application.. -
Wouldn't it be better to try a video showing the engines potential, instead of stills !

COSLX - An updated version of the original SLX Mod
chrisb replied to Gunter Severloh's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
If 'jtd_fireandsmoke' is in there, remove that pbo. ;) I should mention you can alter it in your userconfig, I.e. not burn as much around, so maybe have a look at that also. -
I looked through and couldn't find a thread for Space Engineers. So I thought I would put one up. I have been playing this for a while now and its a great game. Just today via subcriber email they announced they had sold 1 million SE games and its still in early access. That is some going for just one year, for an indie title. Keen the devs have done a really good job with this. Updates have been every Thursday on the dot, whilst they get the content in there. Now most of the content is in they are going to concentrate more on optimizing the game, so updates may be a few weeks inbetween now. I find it runs with very high fps and general performance, for me, is very good indeed. However that said, many, as with A3, have been having trouble perfomance wise, so those players will be happy they are to shift their attention to this matter. Well worth picking up, if space games are a thing you like. The community is growing and there are a huge amount of mods available for the game (Steam WS). So if space is your thing, it is mine at the moment, why not give it a try. Youtube channel: Steam :)

They're going to be adding oxygen, planets, pressurised ship internals, etc. I think where Space Engineers is concerned, the prospect of Empyrion on the horizon has injected more thought towards having planets, atmosphere for playing the game without a suit on all the time. That's a good thing. When they bring in their secret AI project, it should hopefully give us workable AI for both SE & ME, I'm looking forward to that too. So its all good on the SE front, looks like a bumper year for the game, plenty to look forward too. :)

Medieval Engineers is out and its, well, your ancestors from your Space Engineers past, with better building blocks, nice music and a lovely view. :D I'll be building a castle, perhaps go onto building a town within the castle walls, not sure yet. It is a good game, very similar in controls to Space Engineers, which is good for those of us that have played SE. Its easy to use, has a better block system and it looks good. However at the moment you can only build in Creative mode, no other modes are available yet

Nice, I like it. Good luck with it, marketing wise. There are always people looking for this type of thing. :) Just down to how much it would cost to produce in large numbers etc..

The BBC has all public money, well more or less, so their peek into banking will look serious, why not, you may think, nothing to be lost. So yes, they should be pushing really hard on the side of the general public, seeing as we pay for them. However, just think of how many bankers that have been put away here in the UK since the big crash. Then think of all those media outlets that have strived endlessly to have those bankers put away, or at least face a trial of some kind for the fraud that goes on daily in that sector. Zero.. But, that isn't really why I said beware of them. I was speaking more generally regards quoting them (BBC), reason being, they have been a long time untrustworthy, not very accurate and very selective on what they report. That put with the things that have happened during recent times, well.. lets say I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them, and that wouldn't be that far.. ;) There again when it comes to news, its hard to know where to look to get an unbiased, independent view.:( BBC news, no, I'm not a fan.;)
-
Iceland led the way, the UK, US and many other countries should do the same. Many banks have been insolvent for years and years, its just a matter of time before we all pay, not the banks, but us. People could argue we are already paying for their mistakes, we are, but this is really small in comparison to what may/will happen when it all comes tumbling down. The bankers won't pay, it will be 'Joe Public' that pays, we will all sit back then and realise, what we have been putting up with of late, is nothing, compared to what we have to put up with in the future. Also, I see lots quoting the BBC.. Really I would take care there, they are a mouthpiece that shouldn't really be trusted too much..;)

"Opening up Arma 3 to paid user-made content" - How?
chrisb replied to gammadust's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Well you see I look at this differently, reason why.. I ran my own business from early 1981- late 2010 at which time I sold it, not in the gaming industry, granted, but nevertheless. I went through the various layers of business size, right through, eventually, to LTD company and all that entails. So I see this as an opportunity for some content makers, not the car crash scenario you seem to view it as. Of course there will be lots to think about for developers and indeed content makers and I wouldn't think for one moment that anyone would go into this with eyes closed. There would of course be legal issues concerning what content can and can't be produced, plus quality checks, transaction issues etc. However, all of that is quite workable and not that hard to make happen. In-fact its quite simple once people agree and decide to go down that route (not saying anyone wants too, just how I see it). There is an opportunity for talented people to make some money from their hard work, plus for BI too and a 'host' third party if needed such as Steam or whoever else (that of course may not be needed). It would not be, for one minute, as terrifying as many may think it might be. A small self employed income added to your existing income, could be very handy for some people and very easy to start up at the beginning. Tax issues are not complicated, in-fact nowadays its far easier than years past, even if VAT were to be involved. So even if a maker wants to move on to a larger form later, it may/would be possible for them, although I doubt many would do that. But the possibility is there if the person so wishes to pursue such a route, provided of course the developers go along with it and all involved are in agreement. You see, to me 'perfect nonsense' gets no one anywhere. A business wouldn't setup if everyone thought that way. I started out on my own, over the years it grew into a modest sized business with many skilled employees, plus many contracted in as and when needed. Perhaps some will view that as a nightmare, many do, but it really isn't. The type of thing we're talking about here, is much smaller and far less complicated and would be very straight forward to do, once all agreements are in place. But its for others to decide, I for one enjoy seeing people get on. When its doing something you enjoy, then that's even better. Now from the devs point of view. Well for me, it would make sense, it prolongs the life of my product, it already has a fan base, there are customers there already waiting (I would argue that, anyway) and I'm not directly employing the content maker. Yes I have to do some work, but very little compared to the actual content build. As for the content makers that do this as a hobby and want to keep it that way. No one is asking for them to be involved, there can be free content, why not. But at the same time there can be paid for content too. All content would have to be original from the content maker, or shared, with agreement of course. I probably agree this won't happen anytime soon, may never happen. But it is well worth a thought out debate as to whether or not its viable to all concerned. BI haven't really made their view known, they could be completely against it. However, they have taken content makers into their business before. Doing it this way, they could have content made to further forward the game, without the hassle of employing directly, on a flexible format that suits the maker and ultimately it would, I believe, suit BI. But! Its just a discussion, not a proposal, as yet. -

I'm speaking generally, that's why I said some will think, not necessarily you. ;) Nasty consequences ! Not sure why.. But we're obviously looking at this from different viewpoints, which is fine, we all have an opinion on it. -
"Opening up Arma 3 to paid user-made content" - How?
chrisb replied to gammadust's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Too simplistic, why a fishy website, why not Steam or an official website AH perhaps (not saying they would want to be involved, just an example) ? Would there not be lots of things you could buy for rpg, obviously it would depend on what you play as. Also how much the said content cost, lets say £1-2 (just an example) for smaller player made content, clothing/vehicle skins, etc. More in-depth content would obviously cost more, a mission cost £2 a campaign cost £..well you get the idea. A whole faction costs ££'s... well its a new game, when coupled with a campaign.. But also a simple script (simple for the maker, maybe not for us). One that changes the game in some small way, £0.50p (these are all just simple examples so don't quote me on costs mentioned, because I don't know what would be a fair cost, well I have an idea). I think it would be a good way to get a standard going, also to allow what I said previously. Expecting for free, is fine, but expecting to pay doesn't mean that isn't also fine. Some will say its good for those with deep pockets, but the argument to that would be, 'you only bought the game', nothing else. To come into the game thinking 'well I also get all the other stuff for free', is well, a little arrogant.. no.. -
"Opening up Arma 3 to paid user-made content" - How?
chrisb replied to gammadust's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
If by that you mean paying for mods is nonsense, then I don't agree. Why is it nonsense. Would it not be better to keep player made content of all types, in pc gaming and encourage new players to make content. Fewer and fewer games allow or bother with player made content compared to years ago, which is a shame really. If there was a chance that content makers could make something from this, plus of course the game devs, then perhaps it would push the possibility of player made content back in front of other developers eyes, as viable. That way they could maybe understand that a game could be kept alive for some period of time, whilst still making money from it. We may get even more games that allow it and benefit from it. We get a lot for free here in this series, which is great, but there should be no problem for a maker to ask a price for his/her work, if the devs would allow it. So why dismiss it. Just my view and I understand that your more than entitled to your view. ;) -
I've never used this and I'm not sure if its what your wanting. But have a look at Warfare Benny mod. Don't know if that helps. Oh its for A2CO, not sure if there is an A3 version. Edit: also a

What do you think of ArmA3's futuristic setting?
chrisb replied to Sub-Human's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Modern day and it can be fictitious factions. Don't want cold war era really. Simple modern day warfare would be nice ('nice' perhaps being the wrong word)..:D -
Calm down now.. he did say the gunner moves with the gun..;) Can't wait.:)

Comes with 4*** series gpu inbuilt (mine did anyway, so that's disabled), are you sure its not gone over to using that instead of your main gpu. I run the same 4790k not OC'ed (4.0-4.4ghz) and it has no problems running anything (as yet). Mine doesn't run that hot either, but of course it would depend on many factors heat wise, your room, tower location, air circulation etc.

If there is an A4 it will be on Steam I dare say, not that its a problem, pretty straight forward for updating. Although I still prefer the old disc method, probably my age though.:o

If you don't know, then I can't explain it to you.. Which is unfortunate.. your comment after the '?', well I leave you with your rose coloured specs on..
