Not coming at it from a campaign point of view. But for sheer delight in the editor and making our own games, A2/OA/all dlc's. Mainly because of the great content, the majority of which is player made. The huge gaming worlds that can be made and the total joy of the game. Its better than Arma (1), although that was good. I didn't play around much with OFP. But yes, I still play A2 with expansion and added dlc's, no real time for A3. The best mods are for A2 anyway, so will be playing it for many years to come. I do play A3 occasionally, its nice to get into a lightweight shooter every now and then... ;)

Upgrading the CPU, worth a thought? Have: Core i7 2600k 3.4 GHz Sandybridge

Chickens.. can't go wrong, get to eat them afterwards. Has to be on a full moonlit night though. Oh and you have to have one foot in a bucket during the process.. Doesn't get you any more fps, but you get onto YouTube. -

I would only say, the setup I'm using for SP & MP (private server, very important), has no problems whatsoever with either A2 or A3 (spoiler below). OC'ing isn't the holy grail (imo) many believe it may be. Many players overclock and receive very mixed results, some come off worse than their stock speed (only working from examples in our group, over years of playing the series). I say that because I can wind down my 4.4ghz to 3.5 and still run the game reasonably easily. I read on here a while back, or it may have been somewhere else, that 3.7 seemed to be a sweet spot for the series. So being very inquisitive, as said, I did a few experiments and tried down clocking from 4.4 to 3.5, every increment 4.3, 4.2, 4.1--3.5 etc, ran the game fine in SP with lots of AI. In MP not all fared so well, above 4.0ghz was o.k. but there was one 'sweet' spot that this person mentioned 3.7 on an i7, possibly an i5 too (I don't know). The 3.7ghz setting did very well, no idea why, it wasn't a tech test by any means (I did take down the voltage too).. However... I put 3.7 to the test on our group server for a few games. It ran great, as smooth as the 4.4, obviously with slightly less fps, but overall you would not really know the difference when playing. This is using a fully militarised terrain i.e. full military presence (AI, because we play mostly coop against AI on that type of setup) with the help of a very good cache system. That means meeting good numbers of AI at any given time in the game-play, in any location (inc towns). The setting of 3.7 fared so well, that I would be happy to run the game on my machine at that setting all day long, if I had too for any reason. All that said, I run a gaming pc, I don't use it for anything else, so its lean and clean. That does make a difference to gaming in general, I believe. The lack of background programs disturbing your game-play whilst playing helps no end especially in MP. But its an interesting subject, one our group often ponders when/if a member is changing systems. Now, just to mention.. If your on public servers, then that minefield will make huge differences to performance. Try stick with private/group servers, if you can. I don't play on public servers, so didn't test on any of those. -
omg NO DIFFERENCE using a GTX970 over a GTX760!!!!!!
chrisb replied to owmyeye's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Not a lot in the difference in the cards, the 970 will give better AA. Other than that it was a pointless upgrade really. :( -
A couple of videos showing ai mod mixes from A2 I used some time back. They don't seem too bad on the whole for use in A3 here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sluCn2WJcFE Now I like 'Middle' stance for A2 for dangerous areas and contact. But here in A3 the movement isn't as real looking for the 'Middle' setting when moving this way. So 'Auto' may be a better route for stance. Setting behavioural triggers helps no end as we know. But few players seem to use them. Which is a surprise because they're simple and easy to put in. Anyway, even though the 'Middle' stance doesn't look as good in A3, I still prefer it. Mainly because they keep their heads down. Of course that is only a sort of recommended stance, as they will/can use any they like, its just a preferred setting if you like. :)

First off, I would say I haven't got this or seen one in person. Plus I searched but didn't find a thread for it here on the forum. If there is a thread, could this please be merged. I have put this topic here in the game section because, well its for games. Now there are a few videos on YT concerning this and its been through a KS campaign. The thing I am interested in is, has anyone got one, what is it like, does it work with Arma, or be configured to work with the series. I would say I don't intend to get one, I would have prior 5yrs ago, but not now unfortunately. What do players think of this type of controller. We all know that there have been gun style controllers in the past and that, on the whole, they haven't progressed much. This does however, seem a little different to some other types around. Would it add immersive gameplay ? I know the sight they use is pretty clever, its covered in other YT videos. In brief when you look through the guns sight the screen changes to sight mode and when you look normally it changes back to normal picture mode. Also the movement is quite good using a gyroscope. Just interested on views from players. It looks good, I would have thought for active players with very large screens, it could be fun to use. What do you think ? I would add, I'm not really convinced regards its name 'Delta Six', I would think some other name may have been better.. Still.

I haven't seen this one before, just came across it. Wondered what players thought, it looks really smart for the interiors and exteriors as good as you can build I suppose. There is the need to get the resources etc to build your new ship, also life support to keep active plus the usual power and what not to keep stocked up. I'm going to get this too, having got Empyrion this is yet another space build/survive game. Although this looks better than most around. That doesn't mean much though as we know. Its what you can do with the game that matters. Video below is quite good and gives a nice intro I think to anyone that may be interested in the game. There is also a channel on YT from the makers, just search for the game and you'll find it. Its on Steam early access, with MP & SP (online) modes. At present there is little to do in-game, but it does look like they want the game to make an impact on the space building (block type) genre. I think it could just do that. Anyone got the game can give any insights would be nice. I'll be getting this later today, so will have a good look. Mods, if there is already a thread for this game please merge this. I couldn't find one though. :)

Is there any fix (be it command combo or addon) to fix squad AT AI ?
chrisb replied to almaniak's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Not tried it in A3, but it certainly isn't a problem in A2 with modded AI (easily available AI mods), they handle heavy armour very well, in the open or towns. Doesn't matter if your in their team or not, they'll try and take it out, after first going to cover then perhaps finding a good position and cooperating with one another in the task at hand. Stock AI, on the other hand, is probably very different. ;) -
I can see its not for you, its not for me either as I said, although it would have been some years back. But I wonder how you know what it feels like, have you tried one ? Also I didn't know the price, that does sound steep, but there again I pay a lot out on peripherals anyway, so price wouldn't have bothered me really, pc gaming is a hobby for me, so I spend on it. Regards the movement of your character, its in-built gyro, it says all you have to do is just tilt the gun either left or right. Plinking fun, I reckon.
-
You have a lot better links than I put, I should have looked around a little. But yes, the grip has buttons and the reload 'R' or whatever it is in A3, is the magazine out/in. I can't see a full Arma mission/game being played with this. But for shooting range type setup's, then I could see some fun using it. Regards the first reply, hunk of plastic. Well, we're pc gaming and most peripherals are made up of reasonable quantities of plastic. Although after holding that up for an hour or so plinking on a range at targets. I would imagine it would gain weight, or seem too. ;)

Star Wars Battlefront: impressive trailer
chrisb replied to dontknowhow's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I would think, if you can run A2 on very high settings, then this won't be a problem. Ram glorious ram, rice krisppies and chestnuts.. I'll go take my tablets now. -
Currently for me, A2/OA and all dlc's with the full AI conversion mod I use (sig), is my ideal game. A3 isn't really that important to me. We were pretty well spoilt with the previous title (A2) and its expansion, plus the dlc's. They provided us with a great mil/sim style game. Some great content makers made some really high quality terrains and assets for A2, so we have more than enough of everything really. However, I would like to see the engine upgraded in some way later. beyond the flashy parts. Not bothered about VBS, because as stated more than a few times in the forum here, VBS is not a game, its a training tool. Would I like to see some of the features that VBS has, not really. I would just like to see the engine handle much more AI whilst keeping them sensible, without having to use cache. But that isn't a problem now either, so... Overall, I'm not really that bothered now if A4 comes along, or not. I'm just glad they left us with the previous title and I get to play with the conversion mod that I use. Other than that, its just not important, for me, anymore. Not against it by any means, progression is good, provided its the right type. I just don't care as much now either way.

Challenges of Jungle/Marine Warfare in Tanoa
chrisb replied to froggyluv's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Stock AI will struggle to get a coherent plan of attack together. But it can be done with some AI mods. Its just that dense jungle/forest doesn't give great skirmishes or firefights. It tends to be firing at nothing, but a general direction. Flanking could be interesting, stopping the AI in position would be good, i.e. stopping them moving at firing distance from the enemy (you or I). Then flanking could be quite exciting. But really it will be firing in general directions and hoping for the best with stock AI. However, modded AI can/will make this environment, for those that like it, very interesting. I have played many jungle terrains in A2, some have been good, others bad. But its going to be interesting to see how players get along with it in general. There are plenty of towns etc. So hopefully it will be balanced enough for all players to enjoy. -
Luckily Labour has been decimated, not that the Conservatives are any better, but the political correctness of some and its labour run councils (only a few really), were way over the top. But it will correct itself again over time, labour have lost all credibility as a party, but they always do. The conservatives will be next to lose all credibility. Its just the screwed up politics of the UK. But no, this is by no means the norm here in the UK, I live not far from the seaside, bikinis are everywhere during summer, even street wear. Here's the old council leader, I'll leave you to make your own mind up.

Its available in very early access. I have been watching this a while, its certainly a hard-core type space sim. Hope he does well with it. Made by one man, labour of love. Didn't find any threads about it, if there is, please merge, thanks.

I agree, Korea would be a good subject.

I think your assessment is probably very near the mark. Who cares what goes on in the world provided we ourselves and our families are o.k. A case of 'I'm all right Jack'. I was the same, well no, but similar ;) when younger and with my family and own business. It is a case of looking after those that matter. But as you get older you get more cynical I feel. You start to look at things more closely, things start repeating themselves, events etc. So you question more, probably because you have more time and less commitments. The family have grown up, got married and now have their own families, which are of course still our family, but without so much of the concern involved as before. They find their own way in life. Learning is for the individual, if he/she wants to learn, then they can. But to take everything from mainstream media is not going to give you a true look at the world. However, I or indeed you, can't do anything about that. People will believe what they want to believe, so that's for them to make whatever decisions in life they want to make, based on those beliefs. If those people writing the news can't get facts straight, then what can we do to stop them writing, complain, gets no one anywhere nowadays. Try and correct a media outlet, virtually impossible, even if you get to talk to a human at that outlet and not a recording. They are not concerned because as you say, they are those people you describe, looking out for themselves and their families. The really sad part is, its because of that lack of interest that things like death camps become reality. We stop questioning what those that govern do. But at the same time, we are not the ones perpetrating the crime, even though unknowingly or unwittingly being associated to the crime in some way. We're guilty of being ignorant, self absorbed, selfish and so on. But we're not the murderers, even though we may have put those that do/did, in a position to carry out such crimes. The blood is still on their hands, not ours, because at that point they stop acting on our behalf and start acting on theirs.

But where knowledge/learning is concerned, we have books. But better still, we now have the internet.. O.k. not the best source for everything. But when, and if you look, there are many other views about topics, from different perspectives, which is good. In school, not sure about recently, but when I went to school (long time ago), we learned a fair bit about history, probably going back too far i.e. not all was relevant for us and our lives, but still. Where WW2 is concerned, I learned a lot from family members who served or lived through the war. Talking too, or reading normal peoples views, is interesting. What they saw or thought and also what they read at the time in their papers (propaganda mostly). Their thoughts on it afterwards, because at the time many would have thought it must be propaganda, then found out later, it was. What did they think/feel. Regards WW2, its an interesting subject, the more you look into it, the stranger it becomes. We may live through a WW3, so our own experiences, may be those that people read many years ahead, should we bother to write down what we see, think, feel and do. Of course we hope we don't have to live through WW3, but they didn't want to live through WW2 either. Anyway wondering off topic now. :p

Its just the press vilas. I stopped believing much of what is written in the press a long time ago. There are only a few papers that report news, the rest report rubbish, that they believe, is the news. The same goes for TV news channels, they're all as bad as each other.
-
@vilas The UK went to war in Iraq, Afghanistan & Libya. Only many people in the UK would rather not have bothered getting involved. So in-fact, the 'UK government' went to war in Iraq, Afghanistan & Libya. That's really the same as the 'Nazis' in a sense, a party voted in (or not) to government, then taking their own stance on a situation, often a completely different stance to that of the majority of the people in that country, without anyone's permission via vote or referendum. The people of a country often object to what a government does, and certainly when the government say they speak for the people of that country. But unfortunately its the way the world operates. Germans didn't run the camps, the government at the time ran them, they were Nazis, did they speak for the whole German nation! read up a little. Like many things in life and rule, what happens is often not what the people want or voted for. Saying any nation did anything needs clarifying. Lets go back in time to Germany and put it to a vote or have a referendum, for the whole nation.. Topic:: Exterminate Jews by the million Vote: how would you vote ?? I think its fairly obvious that anyone with half a brain would just throw the government out and put them in prison. But of course that's easier said than done, when the people have little say in what goes on in any country. Open your mind a little and realise that humans tend to be nice on the whole. But when they get in power, they can start believing they are the only ones that can make decisions, that they speak for the whole world, never mind just countries. They don't.. They often speak for themselves and their small circle of followers.

This game is about realism, right? Human movement still the biggest immersion killer.
chrisb replied to pete10's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The transitions. Got to climb ladder, change at the bottom, get to the top, got to change again to ready (aware) with weapon, hang on a minute don't fire... Too late, dead. There is that moment when it just seems unfair to fire.:868: A2 is pretty bad, A3 better, but still lacks. -
Celebs wear next to nothing on TV, so a bikini at the pool is not going to offend anyone. No its not true. Think page 3 (Sun), actually not sure if its still going, but anyway. That's UK for yer..;) Regards Polish death camps, I think most people are educated enough to know they were run by the Nazis not Polish and in-fact, not run by sensible Germans either.

Oh look ! another VBS video. ;) Don't forget, when a civilian picks up a weapon they're no longer civilians, certainly in our game. They become a faction, or part thereof.
