  1. As others have said, awesome mod, especially the show-stealing Tigre! That said, some AFM feedback for the tiger: -She feels drastically under engined/over stressed, and seems overly sensitive to Vortext ring state. As per Wikipedia: Amongst the Tiger's notable qualities, it possesses very high levels of agility, much of which is attributed to the design of its 13-meter four-bladed hingeless main rotor; the Tiger can perform full loops and negative g manoeuvres.[37] Power is provided by a pair ofFADEC-controlled MTU Turbomeca Rolls-Royce MTR390 turboshaft engines Currently, she handles more like an overloaded transport. EDIT: I've been tweaking the Rotorlib file a bit, and I found bringing back the weight from 4000kg to 3000 (matching the empty weight of the Tigre) and doubling the engine torque makes for a much better feeling aircraft. It doesn't (to me) feel like it's overpowered (keeping in mind that Attack helos are supposed to have a pretty high Power:Weight ratio) and I can pull off more attack-helo esq maneuvers now. OP/Mod team: If you'd like me to share my rotorlib file, or the PBO itself, PM me. I'd PM you myself, but from previous comments it looks like your inbox fills up pretty fast :)

    New forums, you decide

The broken redirect links alone are an outstanding display of amateurism from BI. Making sure your legacy linking system works is migration 101. This is what happens when a bunch of game devs try to play web engineer.

OK, so the idea is the transmission gearing 'enforces' this?

So, does the real Chinook have it's blades so close to each others planes: http://simhq.com/forum/files/usergals/2014/10/full-17189-89917-2014_10_25_00002.jpg (142 kB) http://simhq.com/forum/files/usergals/2014/10/full-17189-89918-2014_10_25_00001.jpg (165 kB) ---------- Post added at 14:08 ---------- Previous post was at 14:07 ---------- The devs said early on that might be a problem for a while. Apparently it would require a "rewiring" of the whole engines collision system. :(

This sounds like a very fair proposition. Would it be possible to make the VRS enabled flight models available (if they're also stripped from the dev branch) to users who want to continue experimenting with this post launch?

Or just wait till they move it over to the UI (probably just a 'check box' item that's low on the priority list as they ready for the DLC launch) that said, is it me, or has it been a couple weeks sense we saw any updates to the flight models? There's still work to be done there, and we were seeing daily changes for a while, then they seemed to redouble all efforts on sound. Some notes: -The Hellcat still seems unbalanced on the pitch axis. she wants to pitch forward, and cruising flight is achieved while still pulling back on the stick. -The Mohawk still has the "teeter toter" control issues seen when auto-trim isn't enabled. Also getting sound issues (stops playing engine sound after spool up) and CTDs when it crashes. -The Ghosthawk has contact point issues, it's constantly taking little 'hops' as it resets itself on the ground.

That sounds like one heck of a bug... :D

So, one thing that keeps being lost here, is how is a pilot supposed to know how much Torque is being applied to the Transmission? It's not fair to begin 'punishing' the pilot at a yellow torque light, when they have to guess when they will cross from green into yellow. Only the Little Bird and Mohawk have Torque indications at present.

Agreed. I understand the devs have steered clear of calling this a "sim," as a true rotor sims sits outside the scope of resources, but the features they are implementing in the name of realism seem to be answering to questions/complaints no one is asking. I think transmission damage for pushing blades too hard was a decent compromise between what development resources allowed, and creating enough realism that pilots are properly punished for pushing their aircraft too hard. Whats really odd to me though, is how many things ToH got right (damage model being one of them, for the most part), that A3 doesn't. There were plenty of times I landed a shakey chopper because the trans was coming apart on me, because I pushed too hard to correct a decent, for example. So, in summary, I'll say this as dev feed back: I'd be perfectly happy if rotor damage (as just implemented) was removed completely, and the remaining month before DLC launch was put towards really dialing in the flight models. And if you do want to play with damage models, hows about fixing the "you just brushed a tree branch at 15 mph, now you explode" side of things instead? :)

Fixed Wing Flight Model (dev branch)

FWIW, I can see where BI is coming from with not wanting to deal with Fixed wing lib. And making that any fun in the title would require way more work than a DLC package. This engine isn't great for modern combat fixed wing flight, which require comparatively vast visual draw distances or else your cheated out of being able to see what's around you. It would also destroy anything but top tier hardware to render this environment in real time at the speeds modern jets cruise at. In addition, you'd need much larger maps (and Altis is already huge by open world FPS standards), as lighting the afterburner would let you dart from one side of the map to the other in seconds. Arma instead trades raw draw distance for near-field detail (and does so very, very well IMO). Helo combat works here, because Helis in a combat role are in closer with the troops, fly slower, and often work with the environment to mask their movements. You could perhaps focus a DLC level package on planes like the AT-6B, er sorry, I meant to say [insert ridiculously over designed stealth-turbo-stealth-prop-stealth-GIJOE-stealth-plane here], which would slow the action down a bit and be a bit more in-line with the environment, but at that point why not jump in a helo?
  11. Any chance of an update on the 'how to change' part? :)

Arma 3 Helicopters DLC Discussion (dev branch)

I suspect a reason for the futuristic setting is to dodge licensing issues with real world vehicles. They could have gone with the ToH approach, and given us 'place holders' for the MD-500 for example, but it would still feel a bit 'fake'. This isn't a complaint or anything, just a theory. Also now the rotorlib is being opened up to mods, we (the community) can essentially create whatever we want, which I presume would also include porting the rotolib FM to A2 vehicles(?). So, in short, yeah, I'd buy it. I'd rather a futuristic setting for A3 with helo FMs, then no A3 at all.

FWIW, real Helos tend to use a a "trim to" button, that centers the trim on where ever the stick is, and/or a hat switch to manually adjust trim. So as it is now, it's pretty realistic. I generally use the Trim to button once I'm under way to get a 'rough' trim, and then fine tune with the hat switch. Not saying you're making a bad request, but just giving some context. Also, would it instead be possible to use the trim wheels on your throttle as 'jog wheels' for the menu system? I've found mapping the menu system to a HAT on my Warthog throttle is pretty intuitive to use. Up/Down to scroll through menu, forward to select item, back to cancel out. I could see setting up the X52 with the wheel as a scroll, the center button as a "select" and another button nearby as back.

Yeah, I'm kind of concerned this still goes undressed by BI reps or dev branch updates. I'm hoping BI isn't expecting everyone to just use auto-trim all the time, it really takes away a lot of the character from the flight models.

wait, what? Then how do I see collective movement immediately when I slide my throttle forward? (using TM Warthog).
