Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Pfhaota replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I know, however, it's good enough for me though, given the low end computer. Did a small test with 59 AI (and me) on open ground. Got framerates at around 20-25. Acceptable given the specs. -

Playing on similar specs but with a Radeon HD 4850 card 500 MB. Having everything on Standard except textures and objects on high. AA off, resolution at 1366*768. View distance quite low, at around 2000m. Acceptable performance with around 15-20 characters (AI), worse in towns and villages. Works surprisingly well. However, I'm quite resistant to low framerates. -
Can someone tell me why you'd make a game of 2013 very CPU heavy?
Pfhaota replied to scaramoosh's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
because it has to, given ARMA's aims in AI, projectile calculations etcetera. -
getting a pond to work as a pond?

is there any way to build a "wall" only for the AI around the water, disallowing them to enter it at all? -

And the bad computer among all these expansive deathmachines, will it run it at all? CPU: E8400 3Ghz 2 cores GPU: Radeon HD 4850 500 MB Resolution: 1366*768 RAM: 4 GB Its above minimum but a long way from recommended.... However, it runs Arma 2 surprisingly well. -
Maybe reduce the amount of blue on the sat map? The grass looks somewhat alien. Love the atmosphere though!

Chernarus Satmap and Topographical map

strange, the Image output option "write to disk" should create an image. Try with Fuse and display (it will not really fuse them together as all other options are nulled, but only stitch them). There is no progress bar, so sometimes it can seem like it never appears. Check if the exe's process is active in the task manager to be sure. Edit: Now I'm checking around in fiji directly. It's been awhile since I used it, e.g. I only used the now deprecated methods which I find easier to use. It seems like the new interface won't allow no fusing but still stitch. You could use the deprecated methods or fuse the images together with a very low overlap and the median method (which should be the fastest). Or find another program. :( Good luck. -

use: s_{xxx}_{yyy}_lco.tif as you use 2 counters now, one per dimension, instead on one. (and set fusion method to none and remove compute overlap checkbox) -

First, do not use any fusion method, as all your pics will fit perfectly together from the start. As for the error, use the filename defined position option instead. The lack of result is caused by fusion, which is extremely CPU intensive, giving the impression of nothing happening. If you turn off all the fusion/blend/overlap options, the process will be quicker. Check the task manager and you'll notice that it is working. -

I think the .paa-files can be converted by command line by using Pal2PacE (as bulldozer does, but the other way around), and after you can stitch them automatically through an image processing program. Personally I've used the program Fiji, which can stitch images based on their filename. It is mostly used to stitch medical scans together but it's very versatile. -
Yes, unless you use the method described in this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?142178-mask_Ico-has-a-limit-of-4-layers

Help needed! Making map. Stuck on the guide
Pfhaota replied to achilleasp's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
Use Export Elevation Grid option and choose .XYZ there using space as delimiter. It is too big. It can be scaled down too whichever dimensions you need. However, I wouldn't recommend it as you would need to REALLY scale it down in order to make it possible to create. Chernarus is 15x15 km, your map would be 240x240km. I would recommend doing a small portion of the border area (5x5 or maybe 10x10 at a maximum) in order to get a hang of it, and later, if you still like creating content to arma, create a new map. However doing anything close to a full scale Cyprus is impossible. -
I might be wrong. I don't know if it's exclusively for PR, only that it's made for PR.
-
If it is only for PR, there won't be any AI. Anyway, it looks fantastic.
-
My fault. It seems like it' still there...

I've been able to do 4096*5m terrain without crashes. I'll do a quick check now by placing objects in every corner. Bulldozer loading at the moment so I will soon export it and .pbo it. edit: Working it seems :) I was never aware that this was a problem so I never encountered it!

I will give you some pointers but far from a complete tutorial. 1) Base your work on this pdf by Bushlurker. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=15141 2) To get real life data you have to use various free or paid services. The most important data is the DEM (Digital elevation model) used to give the general height of the terrain. A free source is the ASTER project which has a quite high resolution but often many artefacts. An alternative is the SRTM data which is not as detailed but more often correct. For US and coastal areas you can sometimes fine even finer DEM's. If you are doing an island you can find high resolution DEMs for Tsunami calculations. To crop the data and convert it to fileformats that can be handled by Visitor 3 use MicroDem (free), Qgis (free) or other alternatives, google it. When you've cropped out the area you want to use (make sure it's a perfect square with a defined size divisible with 1024 in metres, e.g. 10240, 5120 or 40960). I suggest using the UTM projection. Export it as a .xyz using "space" as the limiter. 3) Acquiring satellite photos for free is harder. There are ways to rip googlemaps but all are illegal, however somewhat endorsed on this site. Otherwise you can buy satellite photos or do your own satmap from scratch in photoshop. There are however some free sources of map data, OpenMaps being the best one. It will not give you any colour data but often the road network and points of interest etcetera. Qgis can handle import of satdata and rectifying (making it fit and project correctly), I think, but I've never done it. 4) The import process is explained in Bushlurker's extensive tutorial. If you have any problems give me a shout and I might answer them.

Terrain smoother and the ability to save sessions! Thank you!

This. I would love to be able to peek over a rock rather than jump up into the fire. Personally I would prefer to use the scroll wheel to control the degree of standing, much like how walking speed is controlled by the scroll wheel in splinter cell.
-
I would prefer slightly more sway, only to increase the length of the fire fights.

I guess the conflict can be taken to the game instead, when this is released ;) Also, great job. I really like that the smaller states get some show time! -
or certain versions of singelplayer missions. It's good simple suggestion.

The Green Sea Expansion Project (GSEP)
Pfhaota replied to jakerod's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Not really. Airports are seldom crammed near borders especially three of them. However, from a gameplay point of view it might be the right choice. -
The Green Sea Expansion Project (GSEP)
Pfhaota replied to jakerod's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Sounds interesting. I draw up similar plans for the area a while ago but I'm covered by other projects and couldn't find the motivation or time to go beyond planning, so go ahead! I suggest something similar to the Mongolian mountains, or Chinese-Kazakhstan mountain range. I wonder though if 3 airports is a bit overkill though, depends on how large they are.
