    Chat GPT tried to script

Not at all what I was getting at but if one is looking at the world through the lens of Hollywood rather then reality, then yeah, that's the line of thinking.

    Chat GPT tried to script

Right, and what would we be doing then? Pursuing some artistic and philosophical endeavors that we never got the chance to because of all the chores hindering us? Oh wait...
  3. If you're referring to game version changelogs, you can find various REPs, such as v2.14 #00111 SPOTREP on either Arma 3 Official Website. Steam News Hub also has direct links to them. You can also follow SPOTREP thread or News section in general.

Looking for a Mentor or Friend

Hi, There's plenty! Not me personally though, I'm on a bit of a break but as far as these forums go, you're best of just presenting your exact problem and people will help you out with it. If you have issues with a script or you have some specific script in mind but not entirely sure how to go about it, head over to Mission Scripting & Editing section and make a thread about it. Over the years, we compiled plenty of resources in every section for people to teach themselves, such as pinned Scripting Guides & Tutorials Compilation List in editing section. It's author Günther compiled a masterlist on variety of subjects here. Also, check his signature (footnote of his posts) for any additional links. There is a Discord server for Arma, a chatroom basically, so that may work better for that sort of thing. I'm not a part of that but you may want to be. This place has been around for over twenty years and there is incredible amount of information around. If you want to do something, chances are very high that someone already did it and there's a thread about it. However, search function is a bit... inconvenient with it's cooldown. Therefore, you can perform domain specific searches via your favorite search engine. In this case, simply enter the following into the search bar: site:https://forums.bohemia.net <whatever you are searching for> You can take a look at various syntax on how to use advanced search here, for example. Welcome and good luck!

No Save Game in Prairie Fire Campaign

Well, let's give the man the benefit of the doubt, maybe he just came across it but making a thing out of it is certainly not cool. Yeah, that's just it, once monetary transactions are involved, you become a client opposed to just enjoying something that someone made and shared because they like it, wanted to make it for themselves or some other reason. Once you put a price tag on your work, your work then also needs to approximate a certain standard. BI seemingly deemed it unreasonable to uphold CDLC to vanilla standards, which is fair enough, I guess. I don't have to and I didn't purchase any of it but in this case, initially Apex campaign also got hammered for the same reason iirc. Btw, good to have you back in the mix. 🙂

Woot, Reforger has FoV settings? Maybe it's not so bad then... heh. Lame jokes aside, yeah, I used to love that in Battlefield 3 and 4 introduced some additional options. Then later, CoD adopted bunch of settings and these days you have something like Insurgency Sandstorm which is just FoV settings galore. 😄 Edit: Insurgency actually has bunch of sensitivity settings in regards to various FoV levels instead. Totally different thing but very useful nonetheless. Yep, that would be dope. Good luck!

Great! While I find it fully zoomed in to be "as intended" use of sights, options are always more then welcome.
  8. Yeah, that's the part that confuses me. I initially concluded what you wrote but since you liked his post, I went to reconsider and thought that maybe it was a typo - take down, instead of took down. Would still be a bit awkward wording but perhaps it was meant he went and blacklisted everything he considers cheater mods on his server somehow or something along those lines. He can explain himself of course but you summarized it perfectly if that truly is the case.
  9. Or you can have a set like this mod and not have to copy scripts or enter commands in debug console over and over for different missions. Maybe you wonna do something in already packed mission or skip to broken part even in official missions *cough Old Man, cough*. I use my own set of course but this could still be useful to someone for all sorts of things. Or maybe I just wonna straight up cheat my ass off in single player for my 10th playthrough of whatever. Therefore it is or it can be. There sure is a plague of cheating out there for many games, including Arma to some degree but this is not a part of it, at all. Running a public server without verifySignatures is just crazy. It's like connecting to internet without a firewall. Copying those keys for mods you wonna whitelist works well. It is very important we have nuanced discussions about these things and to also not equate single player fun with multiplayer cheating or griefing of any kind. Back in the day, we would even unlock various cheats and mutators for turning the game. This has since been replaced with microtransactions that are ironically not micro in terms of pricing but in value, however. Like if I was to say, why didn't you just implement CHVD script version into every single mission you guys play then instead. It's just simple copy-paste job, right. That would also not be very nuanced even if one could make that stretch using logic of your post. Hah, well yeah, you can enable debug console and Zeus after all. 🙂 I assume you meant you blacklisted them. There's a fair chance of that happening, heh. I'm glad you sorted it out in the end nonetheless. You guys will be better off.
  10. @kibaBG yeah, so there are these things called keys, file extensions .bikey and .bisign. You should look into that if you're running a server. In case of joining a server, you should join servers that only allow verified files if you don't want players to be able to use random stuff. Most actual dedicated servers do that. As you can see, this mod is not even signed and it is a mod, bunch of scripts that we usually use for debugging purposes. It's not some sort of hacking suit and it is indeed harmless. Basic server setup is a separate matter entirely.

    Bohemia?! What's taking so long..

Well, to summarize Solomon's proverb on Wisdom and Stupidity: "don't correct a fool for he will only insult you, teach a wise man to multiply his wisdom". But then again, to summarize Mathew 19: "with men everything is an issue, but with God all things are possible." Personally, I don't and never did engage in PvP that is called, among other things, social media. Sometimes though, I do browse through comment section on YT if I see something based and that's about the extent of it. So, if one does decide to subject themselves to that, I suppose I'd refer to the above. While we're here though, we outto avoid broad generalizations. Imagine someone on console that got into tactical stuff through Reforger and is possibly looking into switching to PC space at some point, you'd want this place to be inviting, no? I'm not sure everything is such doom and gloom, I mean BI did put out that blog post not to long ago, detailing some challenges in regards to vehicles in MP. It is obvious that they have their work cut out for them, that's for sure but I certainly agree with your sentiment, definitely and not only when it comes to Arma or gaming or tech in general. But in regards to Arma, I still have those DVDs stored in a box somewhere. 🙂

    Sure, that works.

    Bohemia?! What's taking so long..

There is no need for this, get a hold of yourself. While there is a huge market for CoD there, there is also a great starvation for tactical games on consoles and there are plenty of groups trying to make it work similarly to all the sir-yes-sir groups we have on PC. We've had these exact same discussions back in ~2010 with the platform being PC only. Nothing new here, these tryhards simply have no consideration for us weary of MP folks. 🙂 That we can agree on. That is a part of it, sure but as I pointed out, generally it's this PvP mentality. Even CoD that a lot of people buy it mostly for it's campaign has their fair share of MP people looking down on it. Some of the Battlefield campaigns were so bad, that general consensus was that DICE outto focus on MP only. Unfortunately this did not materialize into what many were hoping MP to be for 2042 because of course, resource allocation does not work that way in this age of parasitic management. I somewhat understand the premise of playing "regular" games against bots (i.e. CS MP maps with bots) is kinda lame even if I enjoy it from time to time, this doesn't really apply to Arma games. So there seems to be some overlap of different mentalities going on and therefore, if possible, we outto educate and inform these newcomers instead of labeling them with something unproductive, otherwise... (on to the next segment below) Aren't we all? Spoiled to technology, spoiled to pleasure, spoiled to institutions to do what we outto be doing, while signing our God given rights away. And here we are. It's a bit hard to do that when your parents and your whole surrounding are also glued to their phones, scrolling through utterly stupid things. Therefore, let's not do that here as well, try to foster healthier environment for those who don't know better. Be a better man and all that.

Oh my, weren't we talking about this the other day? Nice going Günter, I'll be sure to give it a go when I get back to it. Just a small request, unless I'm missing it here somehow, alternative links for direct downloads would be great, thanks!

I'm pretty sure you can just plug and play with M&KB on consoles these days.

    Bohemia?! What's taking so long..

An actual player genuinely said that? I imagine not here on BIF?
  17. Hmm, I assumed it stands for variables. While Virtual Arsenal Loadouts are indeed saved in there, it contains a lot more then that. Such as debug console entries for example and some community made missions even use it as a saved games system. I'm pretty sure that file existed since Arma 3's release, way before VA was even a thing. Last time I checked, there was no options to clean history in debug console itself. I would like to do that without wiping out everything else by deleting the whole file. Or maybe some mission glitched out and need to wipe those variable. Therefore, I would also be greatly interested in this.
  18. Aim Down Sights (of a rifle). I dunno whats the deal there per se but NVGs are generally incompatible with most scopes. That is why you have NV and Thermal scopes in vanilla Arma 2 and 3 as well.
  19. Heh, OK but this can be easily tested, I would be genuinely interested if you'd post some clips or logs.
  20. Not exactly, it's a function to mitigate the fact that we're using rectangular screens. So it's either realistic distances or wide field of view. Our eyes can do both, our screens cannot. If you'd want to have realistic perceived distances, you'd have to play with FoV around 45-50°, which obviously makes an FPS game unplayable. Such FoV values can work well in some racing games though, even on flat 24" Full HD screen. Maybe, I'm a bit conflicted about this. On one hand, it's a nice tool, on the other, you're forced to constantly spam it. Zoom Out action is also generally completely useless apart from weapon systems with more then two magnification levels, i.e. tanks, or things like binoculars where you have to hold keys to zoom in and back out. There is a bit of OPF legacy mess interlaced in all this, perhaps things could be streamlined and uniformed a bit in future titles to only use two staged magnification for everything and free up one button on the already limited mouse and make iron sights (that includes general 1x red dot sights) have maximum FoV by default, as if one already held down Zoom In key. Default iron sights FoV, which is the same as regular afair, is only maybe useful for extreme CQB, like doorways type of situation at which point you're probably better of firing from hip, weapon likely blocking less screen too.

Will this fix all of the issues?

Maybe, maybe not. I imagine artists and such have to do something as well in the meanwhile. Let's tone this whole thing down a bit, everything goes both ways and if one goes through the history of this forum alone, one can gather that this thing we have goes a bit beyond customers and product manufacturing. It's good that this article was published, now people don't have to fill in the blanks as much and as per article, there is a clear way forward. I trust you guys know what you're doing but more importantly, there is a LOT smarter guys then me in modding and editing sections that might have some worthwhile ideas. Great, that is very much appreciated, hopefully there is more of this to come. I for one, love learning about one's struggles on the path. It always reminds me of Catastrophe at Baikonur Cosmodrome and how not to handle things.
  22. Well, not quite... yet, maybe. There was this thing called campaign which was the heart of CWA, one could even argue that was the game, and I'm not sure that will ever be a thing in Reforger. It does look great though and the tools seem dope so far.

    change mod folder

It's a startup parameter. Couple of options here but setting it in Steam should be the easiest for you. See Set Launch Options section of this article: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/7D01-D2DD-D75E-2955 and put -addonsDir D:\DownloadedMods in the field. Obviously, make sure the path you enter there actually exists on your hard drive. Alternatively, you can make a shortcut of ArmaReforgerSteam.exe, right-click on it >> properties and add that to the end of Target field. You may need to put the path or both in quotes. Finally, you could also use a batch script to run the game with startup parameters. I made a post about it not that long ago for Arma 3, you can try to adopt that for your needs.
