  1. I think you need to take that up with the PwS team, MikeTim et al. have been perfectly transparent about what they have done (for which, many thanks. Looking forward to exploring this at the weekend).
  2. @vegeta897: good points. I don't imagine the DayZ community would be terribly pleased if BIS announced they were cutting back on development and support because they were diverting cash resources from DayZ sales to A3. In one sense, however, BIS have used the success of DayZ to support their other games, by hiring additional devs and general support staff. Oh yeah, I also bought the DLC bundle from BI store rather than Steam. Valve has more than enough market share not to need a few £ from me.
  3. There are existing addons in A2/CO that remove the irrelevant and annoying chatter ("Go", "Moving", etc.) but there are messages that are important - for example when a unit is wounded or runs out of ammo. A human subordinate would deal with that either themselves or using Teamspeak (or whatever) to report. As for AI units reporting enemy sightings, while there are engine issues IRL a soldier spotting an enemy would not fail to alert his comrades. A single human player cannot watch all directions at once, and terrain frequently makes it impossible to see more than a limited arc. In SP, part of leadership skill is to place AI subordinates in positions where they can cover what are blind spots to the player. If you are playing a sniper, is it realistic that your spotter never reports on enemy sightings? Test your hypothesis by being a team leader in MP and disabling Teamspeak, and see how the game plays out :)
  4. +1 I bought the DLC bundle. I have no interest in the carts, & currently none in the choppers, but I am looking forward to the marksmen features. Above all, I'm supporting the development & refining of the game by buying the DLC. A3 now has some great features added for free like FFV, native suppression, and weapon resting/deployment. BIS is still a minnow in the FPS genre, but it supports its games and modders way beyond what any other games company does.
  5. This. It's a terrible bug. Das, is there a feedback ticket for this?
  6. Thanks for the release, ViperMaul & the CBA team :)

PAK-FA (T-50) AddOn: Work in Progress

@Lyotchik Sniper: congrats on the release! BTW, you need to change the thread title (open "Thread tools", there's an option for the thread author to chage the thread title).
  8. Wow, amazing. Those are full of atmosphere and would be great for CQB scenarios. What map did you use for the second image, if it isn't completely custom?
  9. And lots of decent-sized rocks scattered around to use as cover :) ---------- Post added at 05:54 ---------- Previous post was at 05:43 ---------- I think it represents the 'green zones', as intended (see the first post). These are strips of land where water is relatively abundant - from either streams/rivers or near-surface underground sources - which permits vegetation to flourish. The vegetation can be quite dense in the strips of land not used for crops, which the Taliban exploits. I don't know how realistic the colours are, however. BTW, there's some great descriptions of operations against Taliban using the green zones for cover/concealmment in Ed Macy's books "Hellfire" and "Apache".

AFDS, that's very pretty. Will there be a version suitable for use as a 'normal' building (i.e. with a roof, window glass, furniture, etc.)? ArmA really could use more buildings designed with CQB in mind, please keep up the good work :)
  12. Thanks for the update. Yeah, Kunduz is really nice (so is Bornholm, btw). Enjoy the holidays :)
  13. Take a look at the AFDS thread - some very pretty buildings (amongst other goodies) being designed with CQB in mind.
  14. I still use it in A2/CO. I'll give it a whirl in A3 sometime when I'm up to playing again. ---------- Post added at 19:53 ---------- Previous post was at 19:50 ---------- If not a PM, posting in the original thread is more likely to get a response than requesting an author via the addons request thread - I suspect that a lot of active modders don't read it as they aren't looking for new projects, too busy already.

    Bornholm, Denmark [Terrain]

Heh, I liked the hidden 'Viking' roadsign & the 'donate' reminder :) Any more little surprises tucked away (no location info wanted, please)?

    ARMA 3 Addon Request Thread

@DJ_Barney: have you tried running tpw's DVD in A3? - I've found that several small addons work well in A3, e.g. kju's "Disable_friendlyFire_server" (particularly useful as it stops grunts from dying from when run over or even just brushed by slow vehicles). If it doesn't work I suspect tpw might respond favourably to a request for an A3 version, he's a very decent guy.

Cheers, AFDS (I know what you mean about the scroll menu).
  19. Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. Can't test it myself as I'm still running 1.38.

    New player: Suggest Mods?

@Chortles: that's why it was a good post. I've been on several courses on presentation skills over the years & the best one emphasised the importance of tailoring one's presentation (or written material, come to that) to the audience. Very useful when I moved from academic research to a consultancy company.

This looks very useful indeed, thank you. One suggestion: since this is aimed at A3 as well as A2/CO, and the A3 forum is much more active these days you should post at least a heads-up in the A3 Addons & Mods: discussion forum; though if it waon't run foul of the cross-posting rules, post a release thread instead.

Brilliant! Great ideas & the WiP pictures are lovely :) One request - please would you make all the doors lockable? If you haven't seen DasAttorney's amazing breaching WiP, have a look at this post; many of your buildings (even the toilets!) could be great targets for breaching. Your addition of furniture (far too many empty rooms in vanilla BIS buildings) makes breach/entry trickier & hence more fun - defenders hiding behind desks, etc.
