On of my biggest hopes for ArmA III is a vastly improved Engine (not necessarily in terms of how pretty it is but how well it runs) As it stands right now the engine in ArmA II OA is a great engine but it still has some issues (as do all engines) My questions then are what are these "radical engine improvements"? Is this a new engine from scratch (unlikely)? Major overhauls or rewrites to the rendering pipelines? I don't want to use it as a direct comparison (because the scopes/scales of the games are different) but Frostbite 2/Battlefield 3 have that same realistic look and if what I have read is true it's been demoing on a single GTX580 @ 60fps. I have crossfired 6950's and have trouble maintaining 60fps (consistently) in certain situations in ArmA II OA (with details on high, 1600m draw distance) What are your thoughts on how this new(?)/improved engine should handle? PhysX sounds nice but not everyone has nVidia hardware, why not Havok?

Large S.T.A.L.K.E.R. inspired Island "NOVA ZONA"

I support this. After all, GSC stole the name for their game from me (totally not a lie) -

Aren't "-maxMem" and "-maxVRAM" hard coded to 2047 max? Anything above that falls back to 2047

AI kills the performance completely (instructions how to test inside)
RadioActiveLobster replied to aop's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I've noticed just in the showcases how it can kill my FPS Infantry Showcase (runs fine, I don't think there are more than 20 AI at a time during this one) Scuba Showcase (runs fine as well, not a lot of AI) Vehicle (Runs fine for the most part, towards end it starts to get slower as more AI are present) Helicopter (Almost unplayable from the start, rarely goes over 20 FPS for me) -
I made a decision this morning to support BI Studios fully by buying the game from them instead of from STEAM (while they still get money when bought on STEAM, Valve does take a cut).So far I haven't been happy with that decision. I don't care about my name in the credits, I just want to play the game and I don't have a key to do it with.

Supporter Edition - Steam activation key

Mine does not look like that, I don't have the "Serial Numbers" section, just the "Download Links" section and that link doesn't work. -

I got the confirmation email as well, click the link provided and get "No purchase of this product found in your account. " when I click it. -
What mod's/missions do you want to see in ArmA 3 Alpha?
RadioActiveLobster replied to Westonsammy's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
To be honest thing think that will make the the most happy is that mods auto download when I join a server so I don't have to search the entire Internet for the exact mod files needed. It could be a mod that turns everything into My Little Pony, I don't care, if it auto downloads without me having to fool around with it I will cry tears of joy. I don't know if this support will be in the Alpha (or even full game, as SteamWorks allows the workshop for mod files but I'm not sure on auto downloading upon server join) -
CAN ARMA3 display video data (GPS, Vehicle Camera, instruments, etc) onto 2nd monitor
RadioActiveLobster replied to hannibal636's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Supreme Commander and World In Conflict both had 2nd monitor support for displaying the mini-map. I used it all the time. -
What's the first thing you're going to do on Alpha?
RadioActiveLobster replied to zukas3's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I have a feeling this will happen as soon as I am in game for the first time -
There is nothing preventing you from having multiple steam accounts. As long as you are not using multiple accounts for anything that breaks ToS (such as getting around a game ban, trading/selling games, etc..) then you have no problems. I also took a look through the Terms of Service for STORE.BIStudio.com, saw this... I can only assume you will no longer be supporting the Official BI Studio Store as they have the right to remove your access for any or no reason. You wouldn't want to be a hypocrite, would you?
-
No you don't, STEAM supports installing to other drives/folders. I've never encountered this, can't comment. Again, have never encountered this. If I set a game to not update, it doesn't update. Then turn the Overlay off. Then ignore them. The impact of STEAM (in terms of performance) is basically non existent. So you would rather have no alpha (in a week, it's STEAM that's letting them do that) and a game that won't come out till 2014? I've played since the OFP days, I've used STEAM for over 8 years. Hell, I have STEAM set to launch with Windows and I disabled almost everything from launching with Windows. Since you see "no reason" why ArmA II cannot be sold as previous titles you've obviously not actually read any of the reasons they've posted for why they chose STEAM. I guess they should strip out all the 3rd party software from the game. Goodbye PhysX and all those other 3rd party software used in game development.
-
I wasn't sure if they were doing a direct conversion or if it would be higher/lower in the US (as you constantly see on STEAM with games having different prices in each territory No, you get the full game.
-
My body is ready (My wallet is not)
-
I plan to get the supporter edition but I'll have to see what the US Dollar prices are once it launches.

I have a quick question (I'm not going back and reading 60+ pages to see if it's been answered already) Will the SteamWorks integration allow for auto downloading of mods? So if I join a server running Mod A, B, G, and a custom version of Mod X will the mod files download automatically or do I have to do what you have to do with ArmA II and scour the Internet looking for those exact mod versions before it'll let you onto the server.

Unable to play with Crossfire Enabled (2 6950s)
RadioActiveLobster posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I am having weird issues when trying to play with Crossfire enabled. My Specs: Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.2GHz Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 12.0GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 2x 6950 CFX (Unlocked Shaders) Driver Packaging Version 8.961-120405a-137813C-ATI Catalyst Version 12.3 (This should say 12.4 but for whatever reason it doesn't) Provider Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. 2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1243 2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000 Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0903 OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11631 Catalyst Control Center Version 2012.0405.2205.37728 The issue I am having when Crossfire is enabled is the game is very dark (regardless of Brightness/Contrast settings either ingame or desktop). Constant flickering and rolling black lines on the screen. It happens with Vsync On and Off. I know this game isn't that great with multi-GPU scaling but with 1 card I average in the 30s, with 2 at least I'm in the 50s or so. Anyone else out there running into Crossfire Problems? -

No luck. Still a problem. As soon as I save up a bit of money I am getting rid of these AMD cards and going Nvidia, I am sick of AMD's drivers -

This issued happened on older driver versions as well and crossfire works fine on other games, it's an ArmA only problem -
AMD Crossfire Driver Issues - Everything is very dark and flickering
RadioActiveLobster posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I seem to be having issues with ArmA II OA (and CO) and using crossfire To start off, my specs. Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.2GHz Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 12.0GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 2x 6950 CFX (Unlocked Shaders) Driver Packaging Version 8.95-120214a-133575E-ATI Catalyst Version 12.3 Provider Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. 2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1235 2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000 Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0894 OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11554 Catalyst Control Center Version 2012.0214.2218.39913 My In-Game Settings I am finding that the menu backgrounds, Benchmark (OA) and some times missions are very dark/black or have a lot of flickering. Not textures flickering (I am aware of that "feature" of this engine) but more of rolling flickering horizontal lines. They do not seem to show on screenshots but you can see the darkness. I know the game is rendering things like it should as MSI Afterburner shows proper FPS and GPU usage, I just can't see anything. This shot is from the OA Benchmark This shot is just on the menu. If I enter a game everything seems to show normally, in terms of the darkness at least. I do have the flickering. If I disable crossfire via CCC then I do not have the problems. Any ideas? Searching the forums and Google haven't shown anything. -

3 25.5" ASUS Screens. I would love to have some ArmA III shots that were able to span the entire 5760 width (6048 Bezel Corrected)
-
5760x1200 is my native desktop resolution (Eyefinity Group) so I'd love a nice Island overview to span across these three screens (maybe with some jets and helicopters flying around, troops on the ground, armor... Make my desktop dream come true!
