Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

i would recommend you to get an SSD if you got some spare cash to stretch your budget. ArmA2 requires a constant load of textures and other data which is considerably higher than in any other game around. Your performace would benefit from the speed of an SSD access-time wise. If you dont want an SSD, get a standard Raid0 at least -

website or something with a list of scripting commands?
flattermann replied to AussieSausage's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The BI Wiki has a page of scripting commands, dunno how comprehensive it is though: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Scripting_Commands e.g. for planes: flyInHeight http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/flyInHeight -

Okay so the thing is that you need a dedicated server. You said you don`t have enough RAM, right? Hmm, well than the only way is to connect to a server like e.g. 217.79.189.169 and play it online. In case you will have more RAM some day: Dedicated Server HowTo: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Dedicated_Server -

That's what the link i've posted is for. I should have added some words though, sorry :). The ArmA2 warfare mode was inspired the CTI (Conquer The Island) missions back in Operation Flashpoint . IMO you will get helluva lot more out of a crCTI (in the link) than out of a warefare mode game. They are community maintained, updated on a very regular basis and use supreme addons and parts of modifications. You don't need to worry about getting all the stuff togehter, though, it all comes in a neat and free DLC zipfile. And yes, you will be able to play it in Single Player against an AI controlled side, alongside with your AI mates. All you need to do is to start a dedicated server on your own machine with a couple'o clicks and you're done. Trust me, it's worth the effort :) -

Perhaps then it's not necessary if it's not explicitly mentioned in the manual. If your performance is good, you most certainly won't need to... I have zero experience with that so I thought it'd be better to ask :D

How did you align it? create partition primary align=1024 ? Thanks :)

Don't want to hijack your thread, infiltrator, but about the Army: I sorted it out by having myself sorted out. I waited for my conscription call but then I found a good doc who understood that i had other plans, and he wrote them a letter that rendered me unservicable. So i unfortunately never got to even shoot a fish in a barrel. But I've heard that doing the 4 months in the Kunduz camp is very well paid... damn

The graphics quality outside is stunning, not to mention the surround sound and the utterly hyperrealistic physics. Just too bad I can't wave a gun around :( :p

Would you recommend buying a Kingston V100 SV100S2D 64GB? http://www.kingston.com/ukroot/ssd/v100.asp Thanks... :) Edit: I'm gonna answer myself, the OCZ Agility 2 60GB is at the same price and a lot faster

you are not, of course, my english can be a bit 'unclear' sometimes :D 10 FPS is indeed a little low for your setup -

First of all, you cannot compare FPS in Arma with FPS in other games. Even with high-end rigs one can hardly expect framerates close to 100 or whatever. The CPU is critical in ArmA, and yours is fine. You could still overclock it. For a better performance with an outdated graphics card you might want to disable post-processing effects like motion-blur and blooming. This can be done with a mod from Kegetys: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5851 -

He's right about that. Most prebuilt value PCs are fitted with a more or less weak graphics card. This is keeping the price on a low level and the trader can legitimately call the whole PC "game ready". The 315 is, if i'm not mistakin', actually a 12 month old Geforce 220 GT with Direct X 10. -
Plz help 6870 crossfire ARMA 2 OA Bad FPS

Some people might call me stupid for that, but once in a while it is simply an issue with the power supply being either too weak / surging / too old -

Medium towards high, you might want to change the graphic card though -
I read a bit further, even Microsoft state that the pagefile on an SSD is perfectly fine, so the decreased write longevity may be a myth http://blogs.msdn.com/b/e7/archive/2009/05/05/support-and-q-a-for-solid-state-drives-and.aspx
-
You should probably move your pagefile to F: since SSD's have a limited write longevity (unless you are using a SSD based on DRAM)

I've never said anything else, Intel CPUs probably do perform better then AMDs. I haven't checked the prices, but I would contend that Intels over here on Mainland Europa are significantly more expensive then in the US. I think it would be foolish to buy a Core Duo these days, especially for gaming, IMO they are outdated. At least on the market over here one gets a better FPS/€-ratio with AMD. This is again my opinion, i do not claim to have the ultimate knowledge. In matters of Nvidia/AMD(ATI): I haven't seen a Nvidia Card that would beat the 5850 / 6870 in terms of €/FPS. On the other hand, I have almost always been using Nvidia cards and I liked them better than ATI. I just don't want to buy 2 GTX 460 or a way too expensive GTX 580.
