    ARMA3 Naval Question

this is a great question, the presence of larger maritime assets would throw up some *very* interesting mission opportunities....not to mention the awesome power of naval gunnery!. I'm sure that some of the modding community are already dreaming up some of these things however as pointed out, the addition or these objects will likely incur a performance hit. we'll just have to wait and see i think :)

    Congratulations Bohemia Interactive!

really just echoing the others here when i say that I'm loving the alpha, already the game us running much better than arma2 did for me! well done Bohemia!!
  6. hopefully it'll be a little better at launch then Arma 2 was eh :)

The Fictional MX Rifle series, why?

from a time scale perspective ( the games being set in 2035) i don't see a few "future weapons" (if you'll excuse the overly cliche) as a problem. Besides the awesome modding community that exists for Arma will bring back the old school in due time.

    SDAR damage

    That's good to know. Thanks
  9. agreed, i would imagine that this will be looked at by the devs before the release of the full game. i know this has been said a couple of times, but it is still an Alpha right?
  10. Voted no for the following reasons 1. Difficulties running mods,(i'd love an easy solution to this btw) 2. The Bloatware 3. Downloading updates can take ages on steam I think that having both a steam version and a retail boxed game would be the best option, and i'm sure many members of the community will agree.
  11. so an SSD for my OS and apps would help, thanks for the input

  13. Evening all having spent the best part of the last week reading this ENTIRE thread, i'm looking for some pointers. i ran both the Arma2 benchmarks on my rig (specs in sig) with Post processing and AA disabled a view distance of 3600, all other settings on high, playing at 1024 X 768 in Benchmark 1 my average FPS was 34 Benchmark 2= 20fps my biggest issue= texture loading...i experience poor texture loading even at lower settings. i understand that hard disc speed is a factor in texture loading. my current HDD is a western digital Caviar blue SATA2 160gb (for OS and most used apps) any recommendations on a solution to the texture loading issue?
  14. are we correct to assume that future hardware may make better use of the SATA3? or is it another gimmick from manufacturers to make us spend more cash? ....it sounds like the latter of the two from here.
  15. that really does show how old my cpu/mobo is thanks for the reply :)
  16. My Current rig is a little old these days, playing A2 and OA on low with tolerable frame rates... but i want more visual quality specs:amd X2 5200 2.6 Ghz,2 GB DDR 800 mhz HD 5770 1GB now... the planned upgrade i'm looking at i5 760 ( quad core at 2.80 ghz per core) 4GB of DDR3 1600mhz Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55 for the moment, i want to keep the 5770.. and save for a better card (gtx 580 perhaps) anyone care to venture an opinion on how much of an improvement i'd see, i dont need to max the game out, but medium to high would be nice:)

    Secondary Weapons

it depends on how realism driven you are in the real world, factor in the wieght that an infantry soldier carries on him, and add more weapons, and magazines for said weapons and you start to increase his fatigue due to having more gear.. in ACE/project reality, he'd be more suseptible to tiredness/fatigue in game terms it's a trade off between mobility and firepower
  18. Evenin all, firstly, i'm new to this forum...so bear with me. having done a fair amount of searching, with some success, i though i'd get on and actually post something i have over the last few hours read and digested most of this thread, due to my current pc not running arma 2 that well at all, due in no small part to the hardware not being bleeding edge. what concerns me is that lots of you, with high/fairly high spec rigs are experiencing issues which are, IMHO, the results of poor optimisation by the developers ( things like Crossfire/SLI not working correctly and poor texture loading) in my quest for playable performance my pc is getting a long overdue overhaul: spec is below AMD x2 5200 2gb RAM HD5770 1GB my new rig will be as follows I7 950 3.06ghz 6gb DDR3 RAM nvidia GTX 480 this rig should in theory be sufficient, anyone with a similar machine care to give me any feed back? cheers N
