HomerPepsi replied to Resilient's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I just upgraded in anticipation for ArmA 3... I just hope it was enough! Old: Phenom II x4 965 BE processor @ 3.8ghz ga ma790fxt udp5 mobo New: i5 3570k @ 4.2 ghz (for now) Asrock Z77 Extreme 6 All my other stuff transferred over. Problem with the Phenom II 965 is that it barely had enough guts to run ArmA 2 smooth-ish. The i5 3570k runs A2 like butter; A3, I'm not so sure about  -
What's the point of playing Vanilla Style?
HomerPepsi replied to matty1053's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Regarding OP: OFP CWC - Played mostly vanilla because I lived on a farm and only had a 28k modem. Only after 2003 (when I got cable) did I really get into the mods. OFP Resistance - Played Vanilla for same reason ArmA, ArmA 2, ArmA 2: OA - Played through the campaigns in vanilla, then added mods as they became available. ArmA 3 - I definitely intend to play it vanilla at release, obviously as mod selection is thin during the initial weeks. I just hope the campaign is more along the lines of CWC. Glorious, glorious CWC. Why is it's style/story so hard to top? -
Lets face it, the same sound engine has been rinsed and repeated since CWC. Yes, it's seen improvement and some 'humanization' but it could really use an overhaul. I don't mind the way the AI sound when their communicating, a speech engine is a speech engine. But it would be nice to have the sounds made thicker, more heavy, and distinct to really induce the atmosphere ARMA can create. Whatever, I'm a sucker for the series and will buying day one anyways. *sigh*

Stalker 2, it's not over until the fat weapon seller sings!!!
HomerPepsi replied to That guy's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Hmm. In a perfect world: 1. BIS Buys STALKER IP 2. BIS Hires GSC STALKER dev team 3. BIS leaves them to produce STALKER 2 with no interference or influence (because STALKER is already awesome and doesn't need another hand in it. ARMA=ARMA, STALKER=STALKER) 4. ?????? 5. Profit! -

Rest in Peace GSC. You've given many hours of enjoyment to me :( Sad, sad day. -
Hi, I'm playing the steam demo, but the game looks like it has FADE kicked in and everything looks washed. Anyone else get this? Why would the demo have DRM?
-
Could be, the ground resolution was very high, the problem is this occurred where I spawned. I will post screens tonight, as I am at work. My Specs are: Win 7 64bit 8 gb ram Phenom II x4 965 black edition Oc'd to 3.6 AMD HD6950 (default clocks and unlocked shaders) 11.11c drivers

Steam Hacked... Can you trust any system these days?
HomerPepsi replied to gossamersolid's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
A couple days a go the Steam Forums were hacked. Now it is looking to be a bigger breach than suspected. Source BE ADVISED!! -
Hi I have Arma Atari version and Queens Gambit from the GamersGate. When I click autorun, the splash has install and play greyed out and I can not go any further from there. Ive tried to install on ARMA 1.08 (official patch download), ARMA 1.08 (patch from gamersgate install folder), and ARMA 1.14. All with no success. There is no setup.exe in the installation folder and I would prefer not to manually install it. Is there a solution to this? Thanks

Can someone tell me if this game is similar to SimCopter (yes uber old game). Not in reference to the flight model, but mission wise. Entering an area, taking on a variety of jobs as they come, then completing the area? thanks
-
ToH - Like SimCopter??!?!?
HomerPepsi replied to HomerPepsi's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
Sweeeet! Here BI have my money lol This is the type of helo game I've been waiting for. It's funny how others have drawn the same ties to simcopter. I think maybe someone should recreate simcopter in toh including equipment and the uber basic flight model (not me though, I suck at mods). -
ToH - Like SimCopter??!?!?
HomerPepsi replied to HomerPepsi's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
That would be sweet. Since it is "arma" based, I suppose one could script a new 'campaign' or career mode so that when you enter a certain city, random new jobs pop up that you can accept or deny, giving you a score for each mission. Once you reach a set amount, then that area is complete. Just an idea. I played simcopter a lot when i was a kid, had a lot of fun with that game and its variety of missions. -
We can hope, but according to his twitter, he didn't lose his job. Which is a shame.
-
Yup, they're pretty much a perfect model of how not to make your company.

Wow, will you ever be able to on past the OFP name? I bought DR because of the screens and gameplay videos I saw, not because it was called "OFP". I also bet the majority of people who bought it on console weren't buying it because they play OFP Elite back in the day. I don't think anyone expected it to be OFP. Get over the name! Quit living in the past. It's like your positioning the name Operation Flashpoint on the same level as Half-Life. Lets be honest, no one outside of these forums gave a crap about the name. MOVE ON. Anyways, I loved DR (even more so with the mods that fixed it), didnt like the linear RR, never bought bodycount. And I am by no means saying that codemasters is good, because they are crap. PERIOD. And, for the record, I've bought/finished/enjoyed OFP, Red Hammer, Resistance, ARMA, QG, ARMA 2, OA, and both DLC's, and will be buying ARMA III.
-
I disagree. I felt it was a nice change from the onslaught of crappy shooters. It sure didn't feel like a crappy console port. It played well on my system and m/kb movements were fluid. Either way you supported it with your purchase (probably at full price too). :D [sarcasm]Wow, your point is sound.[/sarcasm] :j: There's plenty of other reasons RR failed. But being designed for the in between of two genres was probably the biggest.
-
And thats why RR failed hard. To tactical for the cod crowd, not sim enough for others. I really don't know what they where planning to achieve with Bodycount. Throwing another title into the generic FPS genre is asking to fail.
-
hate'n just to hate?
-
OFP: DR Was good, especially with the mods (I.E. Island war). But Red River was crap and totally ruined it for codemasters. Then those idiots thought a generic shooter (Bodycount) would save them? It was a proper end to a poor studio.

Arma 2 and OA crash my computer unconventionally
HomerPepsi replied to HomerPepsi's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
No changes have been made to the hardware or OS. I don't have any anti-virus or anti-spy ware (I monitor those myself). I always use the latest version of catalyst. Tried in windowed mode as you said, but the same crash occurred as in video 4, playing EW mission 1. So this crash is not windowed or full screen specific. The same crash occurs when playing splinter cell 1, the only other game ive been able to reproduce this crash in! I did not try the selective start up because there was no option for ATI in services. In event viewer i can find some critical errors in the application log: From application log:
