  2. Sounds like a huge amount of work eggbeast. Enough to wonder why you guys put yourselves through it? (fun of playing an authentic Vietnam era mod, satisfaction of doing it, enjoying modding I suppose is the answer). I appreciate that the team released the Alpha to give us a taste of what's to come.
  3. Bigstone, sorry to see you go, thanks for your part in bringing Unsung to A3. Savage, welcome back as Project Lead, A2 Unsung 2.6 is the very best A2 mod made. Khe Sanh and Rung Sat, that is some very diverse terrain, I look forward to seeing some screen shots in the future.
  4. Another nice screen shot eggbeast. Just curious, do you and the Dev team play with friendly AI at all in your squad or synchronized with another AI squad? Just curious about your observations of AI behaviour on the map, pathing, taking cover, etc. The map is well made and the AI use trees and ground contours for cover. Additionally the AI almost never get stuck with only a few exceptions (that is all BI not map related). Also, I have played SP with the Unsung mod using the bCombat mod (modifies AI combat behaviour) it works very well with Da Krong map and this mod. This map still impresses me.
  5. Isn't that a picture of the M551 Sheridan ? Conceptually it was a good idea; light tank that could be airlifted for airborne units, 152mm big gun suitable for short rang infantry support (mostly HE), and wire guided missiles fire through the main barrel in case you do come upon an enemy tank. Conceptually a good idea not so much in real life, it was very prone to breakdown, the recoil was so big that it rocked the whole tank (and crew) well beyond what can normally be expected and eventually causes stress fractures around the gun well.
  6. Hi Pierre, I love your mission. I have been playing it since your 1st release. I had a brief look at the updated version but have not played it yet (mission 3). A couple possible mission ideas if you are interested; - simple night ambush on VC in Indian country. A typical sort of Vietnam era mission. Helo insert with short walk to ambush site. After the ambush the weather turns bad and the choppers are grounded forcing the US squad to walk back to Camp Sarge encountering local force VC and booby traps along the way. - Provide convoy security. Similar to you own other mission but now its the US turn to move a truck convoy along the road and try to survive. This will be much better once Unsung have released truck models.
  7. Hi, Radio Relay Vandergrift could use a path for infantry to move in and out of the base. As it is now you have to climb over rocks and AI really can't navigate through the area. Whether you are using it as a LZ to drop troops off from Camp Sarge to operate in the north west or you are defending the base from a VC overrun, AI needs help getting around. just my thoughts. :ph34r:
  8. If possible, in some future release, I'd like to be able to have AI walk across the foot bridge that's west - south west from Camp Sarge. Its a real pain getting friendly AI across the river there, its easier to herd cats. Using boats isn't much better and helo insertion doesn't always make sense depending on the mission (nearest viable landing zone too far away sort of thing). An hour later and after at least one drowning you're ready for your patrol ;) . Just my 2 cents.
  9. Hi Eggbeast, In your project roadmap during BRAVO phase you mentioned updates to the Da Krong map, curious what sorts of changes do you foresee? I already think the map is one of the best, updated textures after Tonoa release, expanded and made larger?
  10. yes those are great hueys. I don't think you have to "port" them, they are already an A3 mod. Aside from getting permission to use them from grumpy rhino they also include post Vietnam era modern helicopters (UH-1Y). The Unsung team has to pull out what they want. There may be a little work there, maybe I don't know, it might be just as easy to port their own A2 hueys to A3?
  11. Makhno, Thank you very much for the updates. I'm a big jungle map fan and have played this map a lot. Glad to see some updates for it as I think this is one of the best made 3rd party maps, defiantly a favorite of mine.

  13. Well the NVG comment aside, yes the map is dark because it is under the jungle canopy. I can't say but perhaps the map maker also made the sky lighting darker and greyer if that's possible to enhance the effect.When looking up, in most areas of the map, you'll see the sky is blocked out by the trees leaving most of the map actually in the shadows. Its really a very nice effect as you walk through the jungle and the occasional sun beam or two shines through (sort of the idea of tiger stripped camo with patterns of lighter green and black stripes). Not all of Vietnam is jungle, lots of the country is simply bush and trees (as opposed to primary jungle with thick underbrush and canopy), farm land, rice paddies, costal plains, delta flats and swamp, really a large variety. Unsung for A2 had several maps representing many of the different terrain types in Vietnam, Quang Tri province had a coastal largely deforested area and lots of thick jungle all the way to Laotian border. It had some of the most rugged terrain of the war. If you really want to have some fun with the map, make it early morning twilight, turn up the fog and change the weather to down pour (monsoon style)....then wait for the VC sappers to try and penetrate your night defensive position. Very tense.

  15. I am very interested in learning to mod. Is there some place to start? Some information that gets a person going in the right direction? I have an IT back ground but hadn't coded in years, like riding a bike...right, lol. Seriously though, it isn't just code and syntax but knowing what the Arma elements are that you are attempting to work with that brings the mod to life.
  16. Both the SwedishK and the STAB would be great to have. They are as much a part of the Vietnam war as the huey.
  17. I found AtomicKrypton's Intro Text script on the Forum and I like it very much. I have a quick question I hope someone can answer for me; can you show me how to make all the text yellow? I know yellow is... color ='#ffff00' in the following script I would like the color to show as Yellow instead of white.   18. I was able to save on all the maps while using CUP terrains but was only able to reload the save on a few of the maps. Whatever the cause, various different mods loaded causing different compatibility errors, I'm sure most of it will be sorted out if/when the maps are properly ported. I liked AiA, I used it for a long time but it is retired in favour of CUP Terrains (because it is supported), they have also worked out the pond issue which is important on some of the Vietnam maps.
  19. I only used the PBOs for the maps. The SEA map also has seaobj pbo, I have no idea how that will conflict with things?
  20. Nettrucker inspired me to have a look at the A2 Unsung maps with CUP Terrains. They do look pretty good. I just ran around and explored, no real test. One thing for sure, most of the maps have a conflict of some sort or have something missing because reloading saved games fails on most of the maps. My favorite map, SEA is one of the ones that failed. I for one will wait until the Unsung Team release more maps specifically for A3 (either as new content like DaKrong, or updated A2 versions). In the long run I know it will save me a lot of headaches. DaKrong has a lot of variety and replay ability, I see it occupying my time for a while yet.
  21. I like AirCav's NVA uniforms, the early war khaki with red star on collar and boonie hats with the star. It would be good supplement with UNSUNG Alpha. Funny, I can't play without CUP Weapons and they use their own (with permission) subset of CUP Weapons which causes a conflict when run together with the regular CUP stuff (can't reload saves).

  23. There is no reason to assume that mershun cig mod wouldn`t work, it is mostly animation related and would likely not interfere with game behaviour. I`m guessing that the cig mod does not modify game play and its components so feel free to add the mod to your own sessions. There is no need for it to be integrated into the Unsung mod directly.
