Pre-announcement ARG answers to questions discussion
Damu replied to Damu's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Thank you, guys. Got the questions. Let me go through them in spare time. ---------- Post added at 12:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 AM ---------- Here are the answers. I'm sorry I can't answer story or technology questions. Partly because I don't want to spoil and also many things are not finished or final yet. They can change easily. "Does the map which was burried (first Hack) show a plan to invade Europe? " - ScratcH1 Yes "The hackers often used chinese characters. Will chinese forces appear in Arma3?" - sweguy96 Spoiler "Since the first two hints directly pointed at the ChdKZ will they play a role/be of any importance in Arma 3?" - Tonci87 Spoiler "Since the hackers were persian, will persian forces appear in Arma3?" - [GR]Operative Spoiler "Were screen caps of in game physics used as an aid to create the ASCII animation of the ball hitting the wall? " - Trauma.au No "Did we find and solve all the clues in the ARG?" - Ben_S, Glowbal Yes "Have (Monday May 9th) forum's posts deeper meaning (hint something) why they were posted in 14 specific threads?" - BoboCZ No "Did the contents of the files during the "Monday, May 9th 2011, 12:00 CEST" hack have any deeper meanings than the ones that we noticed?" - bobtom No, only the Greece "Did you have to change the plans for the ARG in any way becasue of Nvidias little mishap with the arma3.exe?" - Bullet_Purveyor No "The codes found on the RL map: 97 NAV, 91 NAV, 17 AB etc. Are they related to fictional military units?" - dale0404 Spoiler "Is the political situation in ArmA 3 accurate to the map found in the first hint? " - Hamm Spoiler "Considering the ASCII animation we saw showing a ball smashing a wall, is BIS planning to add more complex destruction physics to buildings in Arma3?" - MadDogX, Sergeantshizzle, the_antipop No "Is the quote "The world will change" related to new terrain technology?" - neokika No "Were we supposed to use the tools located next to TimeSeeker/ directory: BrainCrypter/, DocGuard/, MassConfuser/, MindControl/, MissileGuide/, TimeBorer/ ?" - Przemek_kondor No "The ARG mentioned Spukayev... does this mean that ArmA 3 is a continuation of the ArmA 2 tale?" - RangerPL Yes, we stay in Armaverse "Was there some hidden code on the map found in the first hack?" - PBishop Not directly for ARG "Is there a direct relation between the results found by seeker.exe, especially between Miller's birth date and the rest of those?" - PuFu No "Were we supposed to gain access the P8h8.info FTP server?" - -Puma- No "Is or was the final image of the 4 combined logic gated arma 2 screenshots a REAL photo from real life?" - Sothis Yes, the basis is real "If the Astute submarine is included, will it be controlable/drivable by the player?" - Babylonjoke, Tonci87 Hard to tell, we don't know yet -
Pre-announcement ARG answers to questions discussion

Actually, it's 15. :) The rest 5 (in order) are only a backup for questions we can't (intentionally or not) answer and non-ARG-related ones. -
It's not real life. :) It's Google Earth = satellite image mapped on top coarse polygon terrain. :) Real life is always more real than any game. Hope this will be always true. At least for me.
-
Maybe we could play another game. :) How many things do you think are photoshopped?
-
Yes, there will be some presentation of PhysX too, but note we have almost a year to do much more/better. :)
-
Actually, this is already real. :) And won't be last. :)
-
I can assure you both Nvidia and ATI (including others) will be supported. No panic, please. :) Nothing is going to be changed, except the world. :D And thanks to all people for all your kind words. It keeps us excited for our work.
-
Hard to answer this. As far as you know, usual workflow is to make features into engine and then optimize them. We are too far before release to judge this. However the specs published should be enough to run game on normal-to-high details. I believe the game should be playable on slower machines. Let's wait with the upgrades. It's at least the year. :)
-
I hope so. :)
-
Yesh. Unfortunatelly the best choice is not the optimal one always. Euphoria, OpenCL, Bullet, OpenGL... There are many many issues here. From technical over marketing up to licensing.
-
There will be even more than the wallpapers. :) Give us some time, please. We have to take care about the game itself at first. :)
-
Well... This features is on our list looong time already, like many many others. No progress in this direction I can say, but we have a time yet, haven't we?
-
Anyone else is afraid what ArmA III is going to do to the addons scene?
Damu replied to Altimeter's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
We'd be against ourselves if it is completely incompatible. We appreciate and welcome all the great stuff from community. However, we would like to move on... Our goal is to make porting as much easy as possible. Of course, feel free to stay in Chernarus/Takistan if you want to. :) -
Yes, it's little smaller. But not much. There are more reasons, especially the travel distances.
-
OpenGL is out of question even with consideration of its qualities. It's huge amount of work/fixes/tweaks/optimization to rework engine from DX9 to DX11. I can't imagine we'd make OpenGL in a real scope. ;) And yes, we are targeting DX11, hovewer DX10 should be supported. Although... We are not in the end, things/ideas can be changed.
-
The website is restricted to our IPs. Sorry for that. I didn't know. :) We already alarmed Jan Nohaty.

ARMA 2: British Armed Forces, version 1.01 - Patch released.
Damu replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
We would like to apologize for all the inconveniences caused by BAF patch 1.01 temporary making you, the best community members, unable to play with BAF installed on BAF Lite servers. We are sincerely sorry and we made all our best to fix this problem as soon as possible. To make your game working once again, and better, you only need to download BAF patch and run it. You need to do this if you are getting error messages about wrong signature of one of our files. You have the latest data otherwise and do not need to take any care of this incident, that we hope is never going to happen again. -

It's the reason we can move to speculation thread or general DLC - What do you want. Let's keep this thread for BAF. :p -

There is a difference between protection of exe (which is Securom for example) and game client (which is Steam for example). We used Impulse DRM to protect the exe, but it doesn't mean it will be available in Impulse GUI when bought elsewhere, like Sprocket. It's like you'd expect to have BAF on Steam when you have bought it on Sprocket.
