I take you don't watch many of their combat cameras :D. Granted, less common than getting your drumms blowed by AK firing 5cm from your ear, but still....

Can you name some promised, not delivered features in ArmA series? I remember quite a lot not promised, yet delivered, like in-mission modules or artillery computer, but other way, no, not really. And, while you're at it, explain please what it has to do with "ripping off CoD". No one-liners if possible, please explain. -

If you look for entertainment, main dish isn't here yet. Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, nuff said. -
You mean red target marker, or transparent red blob, AKA peripheral vision? To recieve first, you need team leader to assign target for you, it's like him saying "shoot that guy overe thar!" Second one is difficulty dependant AFAIK, also can be disabled by some mods.

Does any of you guys still play with vanilla sounds?
kireta21 replied to mr_centipede's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I was using soundmods ever since first one was released. Used HiFi at first, then juicy ACEX_SM, solid JSRS, now I'm back to ACEX_SM because JSRS keep crashing me to desktop on return to main menu, don't know why :-(. -
Can't start Arma 2 Singleplayer(Campaign)
kireta21 replied to Eken's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
1. Do you use any custom game launcher, or maybe use "Combined Operation" option when launching via Steam? 2. Did you run ArmA2.exe separately at least once? 3. Does campaing works hen launched via ArmA2.exe? -
Lately I've found 90's quasi-Documentary that hooked me up into Cold War gettin' Hot thing. Damn lucky I am, for years I couldn't even remember name of this movie. Part 1 is sadly missing. Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9

Nice_Boat Tank Damage System

@Damian90 Of course, exact numbers will vary from source to source for many reasons, primary different standards and conditions or lack of more reliable sources. Database was made for wargamers (thus the name) to provide them with some base values for more realistic ballance. Everything after quote is just idea how could it be used gameplay-wise, not real-life results. Obviously ArmA can't do this level of realism, even ACE, despite great improvement, isn't close to SB Pro. -

Quite possible, I remember ACE_hit for BM42M is exactly 650. You might be intrested in this. Some kind soul gathered data from tank-related forums to create database for wargaming. Maybe using these values plus random 50% to simulate armor's weak spots would do the trick. For example BM42M would be 650 + (random 0 to 325) = 650 to 975 (5% less per km), with M1A1HC frontal armor 880 turret and 650 hull would give like 33% chance to penetrate turret and almost certain hull penetration. While this could be exploited in ACE with their awesome FCSs, this shouldn't be a problem with vanilla aiming, since it's damn hard to precisely hit moving target at 1km+, while lock-on missiles and AI gunners that never miss will aim at turret anyway. But that's just me thinking -

Modern APFSDS rounds lose little of their power per km (heavier lose less obviously). I remember DM-53 lose 3% of its velocity per km, old BM-42 6%, even older BM-9 8%, so decrease in penetration is minimal for modern rounds, probably well within error margin, and even for older rounds isn't that important. -
Yeah, this can make you feel better, but in a long run it will only make things worse. "Tribute" existed to ballance out economical sanctions and limitation forced on Palestine by Israel. If you don't allow people to be self-sufficient, and the you ask them to cover all their living expenses... well, hope you follow. And I can't really imagine better gift for Palestinians radicals. The worse things get, the more people will listen to them. You would be suprised how many would gladly trade freedom for safety if given choise. If you take away that safety it's only expected that Hamas influence over West Bank will increase, since Fatah failed to provide safety.

Well, I can see clearly how Israel will refuse. If UN can't force Iran to obey NPT and allowed North Korea to outright break it, NPT simply does not work, especially when other middle east countries like Saudi Arabia, already suggest starting their own nuclear program to protect themself from possibly nuke-armed Iran. That's official line. Real is, both confirmation or denial of Israel nuclear arsenal will cripple it's effectiveness as fear factor. If arsenal exist and will be inspected, it location will be known. Note Israel doesn't have nuke-resistant ICBM bases, and air force bases with strategic bombers thousands of kilometers from possible threads. It's small piece of land, any place is within reach of enemy fast-movers, so nuclear arsenal may be destroyed on ground within first hours of war, way before war reaches critical mass for nukes to be used. If it doesn't, another Israel-Arab war may be only matter of time.

Vilas, outside Europe not many give a lot of care for Nazi symbols. Only Poland, and middle Europe are sensitive on that matter. Also, please take note how Nazi sybols are banned, but communst symbols are just fine despite repesenting something just as bloody. Beside, Neo-Nazi movements pop-up even in Germany, where ban is the strictest. Even in Poland there is National Radical Camp. It's as effective as Ukrainian ban on pornography. PS: Agoraphobia is fear of open spaces, fear of spiders is arachnofobia. Oh, and SS - Scout Snipers. Might need to know, Finns also used swastikas as insignia of their air force since 1918, so don't accuse them of beign Nazis even before creation of Nazi Party:P.

Solution could be strong international control of Gaza Strip (read: UN doing something useful for a change). Presence of blue helmets would discoruage Hamas from violence, since few bad placed bombs and bodybags sent back to Europe would make all those years of painting themself as resistance go to hell. See Kosovo. Kosovo Protection Corps (former Kosovo Liberation Army) aren't exactly nice guys, they may want all their guns back, and not like KFOR presence at all, but unless they want to be rolled over by Serbian Army again, they have to play by their rules. This is good scenario. Bad scenario is Hamas declaring blue helmets as yet another occupant forcess and starting Third Intifada. Now, doctrines say when enemy guerillas have support from local population, you'll need 20:1 ratio to win. Al-Qassam Brigades are like 10 thousand men strong, that means you'll need like 200.000 soldiers to control Gaza without going all out Kosovo-style. Which would be only a bit more merciful IMHO than droping nuke on them. The thing is, with amount of bad blood between Israel and Gaza (West Bank is different story) only bad scenario is avaliable for IDF.

All honestly, 95% times I hear this term, it's someone claiming it's Jewish general counter-argument to cut any discussion. If not for them, I would probably think it's some kind of fertilizer, medicine or maybe weed-killer.

If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.
-
So Vilas, what makes in your opinion land ownership and borders legal, if it's not law or strength? Should Poles claim wester Ukraine, and Germans Pomerania? What about places, traditionally claimed as "their" by multiple nations, like Sillesia, or people thinking themself as one?
-
Actually it's over 6 years since last non-Gaza conflict in the area, and there was no direct country vs country confrontation since Yom Kippur War.
-
You want to disarm entire Middle East?

It seem threat of ground invasion in place of customary airstrikes did the job, and ceasefire is in effect. We'll see for how long.

Arma 2/Harvest Red/Razor Two: Mission won't end
kireta21 replied to KingM535i's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Well, IMO Badlands wasn't bad, Dogs of War wouldn't be either if they didn't make it so freaking long. I was OK with taking almost empty villages for first hour or so, but for some reason Devs thought it will be bucket of fun to drag it through half of Chernarus. -
You seem to forget Arabian countries didn't recognize Israeli state, and did their best to destroy it competely. Only reason why some recognized Israel as country rather than "zionist occupants" is because they were loosing war after war, and finally gave up. Scenario very unlikely with Palestine. Peace in a long run, can be achieved through prolonged ceasefire, but this one was and will be effectively sabotaged by Hamas. One reason is their ideology, they will never give up untill full victory. Other is without war that keep Palestine people docile, and their hatred chaneled, they may lose influence. Ironlically it's the same reason why war serves well similar warmonger politicians within Israel. Not sure if Israel ever agree for independent Palestine state, but untill peace is achieved, independence is simply impossible. Imagine Kosovo declaring independence without western countries to back it up.

@walker This is how I see it: 1. Create independent Palestine 2. Hamas & CO keep bullying the dragon with mortar and rocket fire. 3. Israel steamroll Palestine with tanks and airstrikes, kill a lot of Hamas along with many of their human shields (oh, pardonnez-moi, "martyrs"), and occupy Palestine in result. 4. So were back where we started, minus few houndreds of thousands killed, and half of Palestine back to middle ages. Nice job. So sorry, but it's either You naive, or me cynical. Your call.
