    J.S.R.S. 1.5

First off LordJarhead, thanks for this mod - it is a very significant improvement over the stock sounds. Agree with metalcraze - the M4 sounds are awesome. I do think as he also points out above that the M16 is a little too weak - especially in comparison to the M4. They are in many respects the same weapon - other than the barrel length and stock. The sounds of the two should not be this dis-similar. Anyway thanks again for this tremendous mod - it is a "must have" and really transforms the game experience for me.
  2. After some more testing I think I was premature on my initial assessment of the seemingly low increase in Arma2 performance going to the GTX570s in SLI versus the GTX260s. I found I can increase some of the eye candy settings - for example I upped Anti-aliasing and aniso filtering to high from normal and also increases the draw distance (to 4,260+/- versus 3200+/-) and with the 570s get much less of an FPS drop than with the 260s. In BM1 it reamains in the upper 40s FPS, and before with the 260's doing that dropped me to the low40s. And let me say that in other games that are less CPU intensive than Arma2 the added FPS with the two GTX570s over the two GTX206s is HUGE. For example I play a little known game called Battle of Britain II Wings of Victory and its a very big difference - especially with inclement weather selected. Also in BFBC2 and Apache Air Assault its a big difference in FPS.
  3. The CPU can STILL be a bottleneck - at least if you already have a pretty strong CPU at least with Arma2 or Arma2 OA. My PC specs are in the sig. I just upgraded from a pair of GTX260s in SLI to a pair of GTX570's. While going from the pair of GTX260s to a single GTX570 resulted in a +/- 18% to 20% increase in FPS, adding a SECOND GTX570 in SLI added basically zero to my FPS beyond the single GTX570 in the Arma2 benchmarks 1&2 - at least at a resolution of 1920X1080. So even with my i7 920 CPU - stock speed 2.66GhZ - overclocked to 3.8GHZ, the bottleneck with a pair of GTX570s appears to be the cpu - again at least at resolutions of 1920X1080 or less.... 3,251 view distance Texture detail = very high Video Memory = very high Aniso Filtering = normal Antialiasing = normal Terrain detail = very high Objects detail = very high Shadow detail = normal HDR quality = high PP effects = very low Vsync = enabled Monitor resolution = 1920X1080 Arma2 BM1: GTX260 SLI = avg FPS = 41 Single GTX 570 = avg FPS = 47 GTX 570 X2 in SLI = avg FPS = 47 Arma2 BM2: GTX260 SLI = avg FPS = 19 Single GTX 570 = avg FPS = 20 GTX 570 X2 in SLI = avg FPS = 20 So unless your CPU is ALOT stronger than an i7 920 overclocked above 3.8GHZ and/or your monitor resolution is above 1920X1080 it makes little sense to get a card much stronger than a GTX570 - at least for Arma2 which remains very much processor dependent.
  4. OK. I just pulled the trigger on an evga GTX570. I'll be ordering a second GTX570 as soon as they are back in stock at newegg and run that in SLI. The first one should arrive Friday. Will benchmark first the one and then the second in SLI against my exisiting pair of GTX260 in SLI. 3D mark and Arma2/OA benchmark results to follow. :yay:
  5. With a decent case cooling (couple of extra $9 fans) and an easy to install and cheap aftermarket air cooled CPU cooler (+/- $50) you can easily overclock that i7 920. I did it using exactly what was shown in this youtube clip and have been running at 3.8 GHZ stable for a year now. Its really easy to do: Other info on O/C of the i7 920: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2008/11/13/intel_core_i7_920_overclocking_power http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i7-920-overclocking_11.html I'd O/C the CPU and get a stronger card too. 7. I'm running combined A2OA and have the full BAF DLC and just downloaded the full PMC. Also just patched everything to vers 1.56. I have some mods in my shortcut properties target line which is currently: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2oa.exe" -mod=@CBA;@ACE;@ACEX;@sthud;@sakusun;@sakulightfx;BAF -nosplash -world=empty Should I add the PMC to the end as follows? "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2oa.exe" -mod=@CBA;@ACE;@ACEX;@sthud;@sakusun;@sakulightfx;BAF;PMC -nosplash -world=empty Is there a better way or is it even necessary to add PMC to the shortcut?
  8. Optiojn 2. As many others have said I like the recoil effect but as others have said it needs to be toned down. Below is your's truly firing an M1A (civilian semi-auto version of M14) as fast as I can pull the trigger emptying a 20 rd mag. Look at the muzzle rise - or lack there of. Admittedly I'm using a USCG muzzle brake vs the standard flash suppressor and it does reduce recoil but the point is even with the .223 caliber weaps in OA - which have FAR less power than 7.62X51 (.308) the recoil effect in the game is too exagerated. 9. I tested OA with the executable in stock form - named Arma2OA and in the basic training mission had FPS in the mid upper 40s range. I then renamed the executable to "Arma2" (without the quotes) - which my NVIDIA gaming profile is set up to recognize and in the same mission got in the upper 70s FPS! I guess once NVIDIA comes up with a profile specific to OA for SLI this will be fixed but in the meantime this makes OA run awesome on my rig - better than A2 did for sure. Oh, you have to rename the original Arma2 executable to something else if you have both OA and A2 installed and then also change the target properties executable name in your OA launch shortcut to arma2.exe as follows: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe"
  10. I had altered my control configuration in A2 sunstantially from the default controls - a somewhat painful process. Is it possible to "import" my A2 control configuration into OA and if so how is that accomplished? I hope this can be done because I really don't want to having to again manually reassign all my controls in OA to what I already now "know". Thanks in advance for any help.
  11. @Exeagle: Asking about how a game as demanding as ARMA2/OA will be on MAC versus a good gaming PC is like asking if banging Elena Kagan would be as satisfying as nailing Megan Fox...
  12. To disable the "initialize" messages on mission startup go to your GL4 userconfig folder and open the GL4_Core file using notepad. Scroll to the bottom and look for this: // GL4 Initialize Debug: // ========================================================== // Choose if the "Initialize" debug should be used. // Note: This debug displays how "Group Link 4" was initialized directly after the initialize of "Group Link 4" was done. // True / False, default is True // GL4_Core set [4, False]; Then change the last line above to the following (eliminating the "//" at the beginning): GL4_Core set [4, False]; save and close. ---------- Post added at 10:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 AM ---------- I cant figure out how to get these cleared: This is playing on "EXPERT" with all HUD aids disabled and still these are present. This is definitely something related to GL4 and not the game options difficulty settings because if I launch this same village sweep mission with just plain vanilla arma2 or arma2 with only ACE2 and not GL4 these unit symbols are NOT present. I've looked at the GL4 userconfigs but can not find what disables these... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  13. On the subject of power supplies, I have a Corsair HX850W PSU that is a beast. Runs my i7 920 overclocked to 3.8Ghz and twin GTX260s in SLI with zero issues.
  14. As everyone (almost) else has said, the GPU is the problem. When you are ready for that upgrade, take a look at Tomshardware's "Best Graphics Card For The Money" segment - it is updated monthly. Tomshardware is NOT a direct vendor and is one of THE most reputable PC hardware review sites in existence. Here is the BGCFTM for June 2010: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-card-geforce-radeon,2646.html
  15. I apologize if I missed it and this is a dumb question but is there a way to turn off the enemy and friendly unit markers (especially the enemy) that are in the screenshot below?

    Coop Mission Tonight! 9EST

Is there gonna be an open coop mission available with you guys tonight?
  17. I had the same issue. Go back to page 103 of this thread and look at post #s 1027 through 1030. I "solved" it after deleting all ace folders and the userconfig folder and reran the Six Updater - reinstalling everything (a pita but worked). However it looks like there was an easier solution - see specifically posts #s 1028 and 1030.

    No building mobile hqs

Hows about making it a server side option to make the MHQ rebuildable - or not. Also there could be an option to set an editable timer "rebuild delay" so that after its destroyed X amount of minutes have to pass before the replacement can be built. Maybe also set maximum times the MHQ can be rebuilt as well.
  20. Just ran Arma2 this morning, SP mission Village Sweep and am now getting the message below at mission start: Sqd CO 1 (Ray Corto): "OUTDATED: USERCONFIG\ACE_CLIENTSIDE_CONFIG.HPP, ACE_KEYS.HPP" I ran the SixUpdater and according to that I am fully synced. I've run this mission before and never gotten this. Any ideas on how to resolve or update these files?

    Coop Mission Tonight! 9EST

I joined last night around 9:40 and about 2:00AM called it quits - my very first online Arma 2 experience. All I can say - AWESOME! Thanks so much FT Blackjack for making this an open server event with just the basic Ace2 mod required. Although I'm not new to MP gaming, Arma 2 has its quirks and eccentricities and it was great to be able to get started in MP this way. TF Blackjack was well organized, mature but laid back, and it was an absolute blast. Looking forward to participating next week.

    Getting teammates to resupply

still learning about Arma2 myself but the mods I've found really good and beneficial so far: 1. CBA 2. Ace2 - used Six Update to install - watch the youtube "howto" video, helps alot. Supposedly has conflicts with the campaign however... 3. GL4 4. HiFi sound mods (Ace, air, SFX, Vehicle Weapons, Weapons Long) 5. WarFX particles 6. SThud 7. sakusun 8. Digital Compass cool additonal islands/terrain: Duala Panthera Thirsk Island

    Non-blinding sun mod

Agree 100%. I'm an avid boater/fisherman and live in Miami Florida. I fish in all hours of day or night including extensive time in the Bahamas - we are over here in a subtropical area. I'm very often ON the WATER where the sun's effects are amplified by the ocean's reflection and this is in the southern latitudes generally closer to the equator than in Europe and most of the rest of the USA. The "real life" sun does not have anything near to the effects "stock" Arma2 has - especially in terms of blinding roughly 3/4 of ALL of your field of view when looking in the general direction of the sun, as opposed to looking directly at it (in which case it can be blinding of course). Thanks for this mod!
