  1. Suchy, Sethos, SpookLynx, FredDM, Pulverizer: I'm sorry $10 will destroy your lives. If it will help, I will give you the money from the very little I have (can no longer work from Cystic Fibrosis). It will be worth it to shut you up. My heart aches for BIS as they work so hard for us, and yet there are such selfish, ignorant, jerks like you who apparently love crushing people's spirits. I do not have it in savings so will skip a couple of meals. So now you can go on about how nice this pack will be because it's free for you like you expect everthing in life. You won't need to pollute this forum, and what should have been a brilliant and happy thread.
  2. The AI mods aren't free... ie. they cost fps even on higher-end hardware. So it's definately a balancing act. Including an integrated AI-mod might preclude some people from running the game with the same # of AI they had before.
  3. Unlike Sethos/Shep who sounds like a spoiled brats - I love the campaigns, all the missions, and the entire framework BIS lays out. Few games have given me so much enjoyment and VALUE - and this is as a 25-year gamer talking who's stuck at home with a terminal illness. I'd suggest people who complain about $10 DLC (especially one that actually adds value and isn't the crap Ubisoft/EASports shovels out) - to go get some perspective. You need to step away from the computer.
  4. I'm still working on documenting issues from the last beta, but my guess is they haven't had a chance to optimize that part of the engine yet - ie. that would be a big improvement worthy of a release note.
  5. This looks super fantastic. I would have paid $20 for it. Can't wait! BIS - please don't put too much credence in the naysayers. People sitting on a literal pile of gold will still complain they don't have any gold. And for those of you shitting on a good news thread - to see how nice we have it go play with Silent Hunter 5, with it's broken unfinished game, horrible DRM, and NO SUPPORT forums:http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/1121062387 Back to the ArmA2 British add-on (and mortars!!!!) YEA:bounce3: What a great day today is. Such awesome news, and we got our A/C fixed too!
  6. If we had just one thing for BIS to work on to make a separate option, I think most of us would be happy with rotational blur. It may be too much workl for them to parse out all the effects, but to just disable rot blur would make a lot of us very grateful.
  7. I'd like to clarify the slow texture loading wasn't uniqie to this beta build but with all of OA. I realize some of that may be due to each item having an increased texture size, but it is perplexing it's evident even on a nearly featureless zone such as "Desert". BIS, I hope it doesn't sound like generic complaining, the above leads me to believe there's probably some optimization that can be done. And thanks for being so attentive :)
  8. Dwarden/Sethos, Do you want me to start doing extensive bench tests on each beta like I was doing before? Or is that unnecessary? I've designed a new helicopter test for Takistan that has a very small margin of error. Just ~3% so it's even more accurate than my last one. It runs for 4.5 minutes. I was thinking of designing another test for Zargabad to test driving through the streets for 4 1/2 minutes as well. I'd also like to comment there a few over-arching performance issues for the new OA maps that I don't notice in Chernarus. #1 - (Obvious) Is the extremely slow load times for texture maps. This also affects LOD speeds and is probably why some LOD's don't switch when they're supposed to (or at all). #2 - When the number of air units goes from ~7 to ~10 (Takistan - have not tested on Zargabad or Desert map), the game takes a massive fps hit. It's a dramatic difference. I can't recall if Chernarus had this kind of response. It's not the same as adding normal ground troops, but an air deal. Is it because Takistan is so mountainous it takes a lot more processing? #3 - There are some weird driving issues on the roads in Takistan. Not just improper pathfinding, but it looks like the game thinks there are obstacles in the road (where none exist) so the AI drivers stop in the road and make a big circle around the invisible object in the road. Is this something that warrants attention? It's hot as snot in our house as our central air just broke, otherwise I'd take the time to write this stuff up in CIT. But it's 90* in our house right now and I can't breathe :(
  9. Is the command mode problem fixed in this version? With Simple Support Module when I would use the radio menu and click "Cancel Support Request" - it would say "Hold Fire".
  10. Wow Elderwind. Those are excellent videos. As an aside, in case you don't have auto-notification on, there's a pm waiting for you. Cheers :)
  11. I think I'm going nuts. I could have sworn I saw a screenshot of a large field of Pink Poppies. I had the perfect battle set this kind of location, but for the life of me I can't find it. The only thing I see is a tiny field in Takistan at grid 113-066 and a small plot at 102-059 I hope there's a valley in one of the OA maps I just keep missing...

    Dam Seagull thing?

LOL - I didn't even realize that was one and the same with the "Seagull". Thanks :)
  13. That would be f*ing brilliant. As an alternative option, might I suggest you place a few small objects in a grid pattern throught the field and when you destroy those objects, you've then destroyed the fields? You could chooese objects that are so small they won't interrupt the beauty/flow of the poppy field.
  14. I have a citizen character (policeman) who's supposed to be an observer of the battle taking place over his neighborhood. So American and Russians don't attack him on purpose. But I need to have him start the game with binoculars. Can someone give e a step-by-step guide on how to do this? I'm sure it's got to be really easy? Thanks for the help! :)

    Dam Seagull thing?

When I'm testing a mission I'm creating, is there a way I can turn myself into a seagull so I can prowl the map or watch the rest of the battle (single player)?
  16. I'm pretty sure that's North Takistan around Rasmun? <-- I think that's what I was remembering but just extrapolated it was an acre or two in size. I found some larger plots of Poppies Way north of Zargabad, but they're not the density and height I was hoping for. They're more like sporadic zones of weeds.
  17. Curious - who is Shezan71? Your previous islands were so good I really didn't thnk anyone had to teach you much of anything... but wow will we love powerlines. Any chance you can retrofit your other maps with them? Ironically I think some of the others are more fitting of a good power grid vs. Lingor.
  18. Aside from the above, I'm looking to create a variable that limits the maximum height a jet or helicopter will fly. I know we can set the exact height it will fly at ie. this flyinheight 100 But how do you set a "maximum"ceiling value? I didn't see anything in the script code that would let me do that.

    Latest Beta Patch: 72107

Dwarden & Suma - I've got those Anistropic Filtering screenshots for you. This is in all versions of OA (maybe base game too haven't checked). I took a set of 3 shots. #1 - AF off. #2 - In game AF at max. #3 - In-Game AF OFF, but Nvidia control panel settings at max override. You can see half-way back a siginificant difference. Each screeshot is unaltered and I cut out shots #4 and #5 so it's easier to see. The override settings are: Ansitropic Filtering: 16x Negative LOD Bias: Clamp I had to create a zipfile because the 5 pics are big (9 Meg total): http://www.jeffpinard.com/ArmA2OA_Anistropic_Filtering.zip I'm probably one of those people who blurry/muddy textures bothers, but many people might not notice.

    Latest Beta Patch: 72107

Alex, I haven't had a crash yet. The closest was when I was turning in tight circles in Zargabad with a lot of AI, the rotational blur went a little crazy and the game hung for about 2 minutes. I've tried to replicate this since (to force a crash) but it hasn't happened.
  21. Youtube has lots of tutorials as well as the main sites too.
  22. Icebreaker- your stuff is just stunning. I have a quick question. Any reason why the original plan doesn't have a second tiny airstrip, like a short dirt runway in the opposite corner from the main airport? Though maybe you want us to drop daisy-cutters to make our own helo landing sites? :) _upy14pesi4 AiP7-HBHwPc
  23. Well, that did make me laugh. At least you know the path ahead lies strewn with boulders and errr landmines or something. I have one more question to add to the stack you won't answer - You wanted people versed in CC+? You're making your mod close-captioned for the hearing impaired? :music:
  24. Shouldn't you know how to actually use a mod in your game before stating you're going to make the biggest mod in the game... ever? I feel really bad about squashing someone's enthusiasm as I'm usually the first person to come to their defence, but let me say a few things. #1 - You sound like a Nigerian scam artist. English is not your native language and it trips red flags when a person has to describe where they live - the "Lake country" as a form of comfort. You may just be naieve and super nice, but one grows weary of the scammers. #2 - As I mentioned - a day ago you didn't even know how to make a mod work in the game, yet today you're going to make the biggest mod ever. If you can't spend 20 minutes to see the mods and work that have already been done ie. the tens of thousands of man hours put into them - no one can take you seriously. #3 - As was posted earlier, you're asking everyone else to do the technical stuff. If you have some skills and abilities frmo other games you should post your previous work. You're asking people to devote their time with the empty promise of "in a massive pathway of skill opportunity" <--- which reads like a bad Google translation of God knows what. #4 - Your statement "Today is a good day for anyone interested in having an opportunity to be apart of the biggest MOD EVER." <--- is probably a little insulting to the people who have been working on the "biggest mods for ArmA". Don't get me wrong, it's great you have this enthusiasm, but you've got to learn some stuff before you try and take over a forum. The talented programmers, modders, designers are already up to their eyeballs in work and YOU have to do all the stuff you want others to do. There's just not enough free-time unless you're going to start paying people to quit their day-jobs. Like I said, I hate to temper your enthusiasm, but here's a primer. My wife will be witness that I've spent over 200 hours reading forum posts, manuals, and trying to learn scripting to make the most basic missions that won't be stupid. I'm learning some of this from scratch but have been modding for 20 years. This isn't simple like modding Civ IV. You seem like an OK person from your whopping 1 day on the forum, but saying this is the nicest forum you've ever known just doesn't smell right. ---------- Post added at 04:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:07 AM ---------- BTW - I'm curious... On Youtube you're only 20 years old but here in this thread you're 29. Which is it?

I want to buy this game but..

Just reinforcing it's totally worth it. And if you didn't you'd kick yourself for sacrificing so much content.
