ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
boyBlue32 replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I have a decent vid card - Radeon HD6870 - and I can drop into an empty Chernarus or a simple mission and get 60+ fps on high settings, but any time I join a multiplayer game or attempt complex missions, my fps drops down to 20 or so. My CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8Ghz (OCed to 3.2). Am I correct in assuming this is what's holding me back? And if so, is there any way to optimize the game for CPU performance rather than VPU? Because when I lower graphics settings it doesn't effect framerate at all. It would really suck if I can't enjoy multiplayer or some of the dynamic full-map missions. I've already put 200+ hours into the editor and SP missions, so I can't really complain, but I just really wish MP was an option. This is the only game this rig is incapable of playing, regardless of graphics settings. Bummer! :(:( *EDIT* - Also, I just read on RockPaperShotgun that ARMA gets better framerates online because the server does all the large CPU calculation work for you. Is there any truth to this? I find quite the opposite, I can't even play simple MP games without a framerate of 20! -
[CAMP/OA] Soldiers of Valor: Task Force 94

Any advice on my problem above USRanger? Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Much appreciated! -

This is definitely the best campaign I've played - thanks for all your hard work! I am having an issue though, with the Air Support Console. (I've read the Mando Missile readme and searched the threads but no luck so far.) I'm on the mission Metal Militia and I want to use the recon plane, but it can't seem to sustain a steady altitude. It just keeps losing height until it crashes, even though it's still several kilometers from my target destination. The other forms of air support work just fine, but I'd really like to use the recon. Any advice on how to keep the recon plane from crashing within 30 seconds of flight or so? The normal UAV controls don't seem to help...but maybe I'm just missing something here. Thanks again! -
Is there really no fix for AI stuck in "danger" mode??
boyBlue32 replied to boyBlue32's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Yes, I've read that "auto-danger" is an intentional feature. If so, it's just plain broken, and I hope they at least tweak it. My men will engage, the enemy might retreat over a hillside or something and camp out. I can appreciate that my team is still on alert, but they refuse to listen to any orders in the meantime. If I want the medic to heal while we wait around, he won't listen. If I tell my men to resupply at a nearby crate, they won't listen. If I decide we need to regroup and retreat, they'll eventually follow, but it'll take a damn long time. I can literally sit for 10+ minutes, waiting for things to be "safe" in the eyes of my team - and if the area is crawling with enemies, I can pretty much forget about issuing any orders for the rest of the mission, because my men will be stuck in danger as soon as they suspect something is around! I will eagerly await the next patch, and I really hope it fixes this. Anybody know when it might be released? Why is there no auto-danger override mod yet?! Anyways, I wound up purchasing original ARMA Gold yesterday, cause I need my fix, and this auto-danger stuff is insanely frustrating and game-breaking. -

Ohh okay. That's really good to hear. If I get one of the betas/RCs, it'll fix the issue? I have Combined Ops on Steam. Or should I just wait for the official patch? -

I've been trying to research this problem for a while now - I don't know if maybe it's just not common, or I'm the only one that actually cares! I've tried with ACE, Zeus, various other AI mods, and it always happens. I put the AI in danger mode as I like to do during combat. Combat ends, and my squad is stuck in danger mode and will not take any orders afterwards, except to slowly follow me in bounding mode. I know you can put them in compact column and delta formation and they'll follow without bounding, but good luck issuing any other orders because they won't listen at all. This basically ruins any attempt at finishing a mission since the game basically breaks after the first major engagement. Does nobody have a solution to this problem? -
Enemy Tunguskas failing miserably...
boyBlue32 posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hey all. I'm making a mission where the player has to fly a transport chopper across the map, and I want to force him to remain low lest he be spotted on enemy radar from the Tunguskas scattered around the map. I've played similar missions in campaigns/scenarios, and usually enemy AA is extremely effective, even at ranges of several kilometers. However, in my mission, I can pass over a Tunguska within 300m and the thing will still not have shot at me. Granted, it's night time, but still, I thought they had radar!? If I fly around it in circles, it eventually opens fire with the cannon, but no missiles. Sometimes Tunguskas on the other side of the map will launch missiles, but only after the one I'm flying past has started firing. What gives? BTW, enemy skill is up all the way. -
Ahhh - very good question. I'm pretty sure they're all privates. Does a higher rank change behavior or does it only give a higher skill bar?

Is there any way to set a units awareness level (safe/aware/combat/etc) even if you haven't given them waypoints, or does that not matter? I can lay prone among the friendly soldiers (who have no waypoints) as the enemies rain bullets upon them as they advance into the city, and the friendlies don't shoot back, even though the enemy is within range. It's like they can't figure out where the fire is coming from, even though I have allied skill set higher than enemy skill. Maybe I'll just try Zeus again.

Hi all. I've been working on creating a campaign (designed for SP, to be story-driven and immersive) and I've noticed some very strange things with the general performance of the AI. Note, I've experimented with all sorts of different "skill" settings, and am currently playing with no mods. However, I constantly experience situations where an AI team fires upon another team within clear sight (maybe 300m, no obstructions), and the team being fired upon just lays there / seeks cover, confused, for minutes at a time, until they are all dead, and never return fire. When both teams are of equal skill with no previous engagements / distractions, why aren't they equals? For example, the first mission of my campaign, you begin on a balcony in Takistan, watching a battle between friendly defenders and wrongful invaders. While I made sure that the unit skill bars were mostly equal and my cfg file has friendlies being more skilled AND more accurate, the friendlies just lie there while hundreds of enemy rounds fly all around them. You can stand on that balcony and watch the defenders get slaughtered without firing a single shot, even though the enemy is well within range. What gives? :butbut: *EDIT* - sorry, meant to post this in editing forum. Question still remains though.

Here's what I did: Overclocked my CPU = huge boost (CPU was clearly bottlenecking me) Disabled all unnecessary services (use this guide: http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm) = decent boost Cleaned/defragged HD = small boost Overclocked GPU and disabled Vsync in ATI tray tools = good boost Your rig is much better than mine and I get 30-40 fps with decent settings. It also really helped me to disable AA and use downsampling instead. Other than that just try playing with lots of settings. This doesn't really answer your question but it might help. Your rig should theoretically be pretty good but with ARMA you never know...

Question about virtual ram in win7 when play AA2

I don't know the answer to your question but I'm intrigued by the idea of virtual RAM. Have you experienced any improvements in ARMA performance? -
Mission end trigger with all LIVING team in boat?
boyBlue32 replied to boyBlue32's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Can anybody explain to me if it's possible to transfer the initially assigned briefings/tasks to a new team leader when the first team leader dies? Every time my team leader dies, his second-in-command can't see the tasks, and therefore, I assume, can no longer complete the mission. Is it possible to make this work? -

boyBlue32 replied to boyBlue32's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Thanks for the reply. I eventually figured it out this same way, but I guess I just wasn't sure if parenthesis could be used within the editor in the same way they would be used in other coding languages, and outside of ARMA scripts. Also, I didn't know that && = AND, and || = OR. However, just when I thought my mission was running perfectly, I realized that when/if my team leader dies, his replacement can no longer see the original briefing (tasks and notes.) Is there some reason why this is? I'm only making a single-player mission, and I spent a long time getting everything just right, (mostly because I love this game, and it's even more fun to create scenarios for myself,) and I'd like to get everything running smoothly. Every search I've made on this board has only yielded results involving MP problems. Thanks again! I love ARMA and I love this board! Also, I'm drunk!! -
Tasks disappear when original leader dies. (SP)
boyBlue32 posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi. I'm making a single-player mission, and everything is going great, except that when the original team leader is killed, the member who takes his spot as leader can no longer see the tasks list or notes. Why would this be? Any help is greatly appreciated! *EDIT* Now that I've spent the past few hours looking into this, it seems it isn't even possible! Is this really true? All I want is for my whole team to be able to view the same briefing as the team leader. When the team leader is unfortunately KIA, how is the rest of the team supposed to complete a mission if they can't see the tasks/notes/objectives? I thought there was a way to do this, but I just played through the packaged scenarios, and it seems that either you have no direct control over your team, or if a single member is lost you lose. Please, any help would be awesome! I've been working on this mission for a long time--it's like my baby! I just wish this one feature would work out!
