  1. @LawndartLeo AFAIK Those radio message errors are caused by having the arma2TS addon active ingame and the TS plugin NOT active in TS plugins folder. Suggest turn off addon arma2TS in Arma2 startup (or remove if you don't ever use it) Info As I understand if Ts runnng pre arma startup AND arma2TS plugin active (ie Ticked) in TS then it will look for plugin being active in arma when Arma starts up. Ie It goes looking for its counterpart in arma to start active link between TS and arma.. Turn off both ends TS plugin and Arma2ts plugin at arma start and no more message problems. HTH Gen

    VF Ladder Addon

Now why is the 1st thought that enters my head about arma ladders. "here come the city life/ real life type addons?", I see Arma2 window cleaning business opportunities, heck if this is a multi level marketing I could get in on the 1st rung and make my fortune :D Career in Arma cat burgling anyone? Who will be first to make the fire tender addon? A cat up a tree rescuer dude/dudett addon. Oh no a fireman Sam sim addon lol Hmm I think I have warped sense of humour  "Windows cleaned, great prices, tidy workmen, no job too high, Dodgy roofing repairs considered, weekly, monthly or contract. The Chernarus sea covers half the map, the rest is covered by us.... HeightMasters, a rung above the rest" "We clean gutters so you don't have to live in one" "Having trouble with your pussy :p, Rest easy and let us take care of it (Private or contract) Heightmasters, where for every cat rescued from a tree, we donate 1 less tree to the arma maps, Green is mean" What our customers say "After 50 years my bell started to hang more to one side, I was at my wits end, what if it fell off?" Heightmasters came in and had it erect in only 6 hours,, bless them".....Pastor Benedict, Church of Chernarus. "It took them awhile to extend the ladders in 50cm increments, but the lads from Heightmasters were the first to clean the top floor hotel windows in 20 years. Now we can open the curtains in the top floor ambassadors suite and stop telling our guests it was to protect them from snipers". ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

Now if I was having probs with framerates due to trees etc, quick fix, make an expansion with few trees -> pragmatic and kills 2 birds with 1 stone. New release OA yay, and bye bye tree problem. Oh look it's a desert type expansion... Surprised? Well er no. Plus VBS has desert type so many models already researched / modelled etc So personally I won't hold my breath for a "jungle" type island anytime before CPU speeds double. Not being negative, just seems logical? My bet snow would be next IF there is a next! Then again Modelling a Sweden or Norway has too many trees, so maybe next one will be so cold that even trees can't grow lol... er northpole or something :) Hmm doesn't really appeal too much that (and BIS know it) lol 2 move to that iceberg NW.(the white one) All make seal and ice goggle addons :) 3 what do you mean you wont go prone cos your nuts will freeze, you ain't a squirrel! Deadfast's FPS Counter

When using the editor preview, I need to hit esc and THEN activate the frame counter. Is there a way to easily have the counter running without having to hit esc once preview has first been started?. Very useful app by the way Big thanks.. Oh and to a prev poster yeh I reckon it's much more accurate than fraps. Cheers Gen
  8. Just a quick one, it's more than likely "driver" error. First off thanks for a real useful/and well made util ! Keep getting ingame message that ace keys are out of date, even though I used the six install/update option only an hour earlier. (this is in single player editor mode with ace mod running). Any suggestions... it's probably something daft I am doing.. shrug? A quick suggestion while I am on, how about a single press button that goes off and searches arma2 folder for anything starting in "@" and automatically adds that mod to six updater (rather than adding mods by hand through six menu bar) again maybe I have missed something but don't think so? How real flying ?

You make the addon and I will use it :) Arma 2 Heli is not worse than arma1 or ofp, go back and remind yourself;) Much more predictable and less "twitchy" at the very least when compared with OFP. I too have had numerous intermittent real life heli lessons, also owned for many years a glider(sailpane) (SHK vtail, glide ratio 1/36) This "milsim" has to cover driving, flying, swimming, walking, seagoing, parachuting etc etc. Limited resources to allocate to heli I assume. As prev poster said you want a heli sim, er.... buy a heli sim.. (which you have) When you make this addon please include ground effect, blade stall, working turn and slip indicator, ability to effectively side slip, attitude trim switch, squawk box and furry dice .. ok no furry dice. Some thermals, ridge lift and wave would be cool too, and to do this properly we need thinner atmosphere as height increases, don't forget lightening strikes, bird strikes, icing, fuel management. I'll need wind sheer, jet turbine wake interferance, downdraft on downwind sides of mountains, thermal turbulence over correct crops and factory chimneys (with wind strength and direction taken into consideration). Also need weather that is so bad that I can't fly mission sometimes and have to sit learning morse code for the whole mission till cloudbase lifts. Obviously we will need full working atc, and fully trained operators with working radar, air corridors etc. Please include a preflight briefing, with option for filing flight plan etc. Currently not arcade physics, somewhere in between I estimate. Currently predictable outcome to controls, smooth response, repeatable. For a non heli sim thats pretty neat? But bring on your addon I absolutely would use it as would others I am sure... See you in 6 months + (unpaid) ;) in fact I will give undertaking to be official tester for you! Regards.. I write in good humour ;) Gen (I wonder what translator will make of this lol)

    Ghosts in my editor :)

Very strange goings on lol I am in editor I place mh6, with me as pilot. Then I place 1 enemy bmp with assoc troops. Change my mind and remove/delete bmp, and regroup troops to their leader. preview mission. enemy troops where I expect them, and no bmp as expected. I shoot all troops, (middle of a field). Next thing a BMP drives along a road to the north and shoots me stone dead. LOL WTF? I go back to editor and for sure no BMP is there and certainly not on a road to north where I never even placed it even before deleting. Spooky or what. Goin to sleep with 1 eye open tonight! Gen

    Ubisoft's Draconian DRM

Not alone on this but just pointed out to Ubi that having to be online for Sp is insulting for longterm paying customer. No idea how many games I have registered on their reg servers over the years.... a lot hmmm 20+ over the years I would guess. Every single one was registered. Same email, same name, but nope my track record is ignored, registering was just for advertising trawling I guess. Despite spending more with them than I would admit to my wife ;) I guess to them I am suddenly going to become a pirate. Unlike others who may purchase after DRM removed, after how they treat me (a longterm repeat and honest paying customer) as a would-be pirate, I will NOT be buying even if they remove DRM in future, they just utterly blew it for me and I told em so. Totally insulted. Bye bye SH5 and Settlers7, and Bye Bye Ubi permanent. When British Telecom had monopoly in UK they always say Hey we are great value, our costs are very very high. When 1st competition arrived at half the price, they matched price... instantly...miraculous. it continues to this day 30 years later. And 30 years later I will still never be British telecom customer because they ripped me off. 30 years later they STILL have adverts on vans saying come back to BT (so I am not alone and they know it). LOL if I live on desert island with only 1 phone company and it was BT I would have no Phone on principal! This is where Ubi is going too I believe. Treat customers with enough contempt and eventually they WILL have had enough. That's where I am at. Supply and demand/ freemarket I accept but it's 2 way street and excessive is unbalanced relationship= divorce No aversion to online registering, no aversion to needing Dvd in PC if mp online(like Arma2) against piracy, against costing software companies hard earned profit and maybe longterm future, but I am NOT going to be treated as guilty before proven innocent. Bad move! And dont give me that you can save online load anywhere guff, so what I have a usb stick.... phew that was hard..NOT It made me smile when a response on Ubi forum said very small % find it objectionable.... Whilst watching new people sign up to their forum for just 1 reason and one message... to state their disgust and note they 1 had cancelled pre-orders (varifiable) 2 they would not consider purchase anymore.3 they had been looking forward to specific titles and had the prev titles in the various series. Also raised was that most people register with forums only if they have a problem with app.... Hmmm I guess they haven't seen this forum then :). It's interesting because given the track record of BIS over the years it's unlikely I would have felt THIS strong a reaction to the same scenario (don't get ideas BIS :) ) if it had have been BIS pulling this "stunt". Hmmm so I ask my self why?.. interesting that... any comments on that one? Apols for long post this stuff just gets me wound up to be treated like this. Good news, so now I have the ££ for OA lol..... bring it on guys I have every confidence in ya :) Gen

Why is this game not more popular?

@Spooky. Just throwing this out there out of interest. I have no figures just a gut sorta feeling, so what do you reckon? Is it possible that OFP had so many mods/addons/modders because it had such a long life, so they accumulated over a lot more years than arma2 has been around? I am wondering if comparing long OFP with much shorter arma2 availability maybe distorts reasonable comparison of quantity of mods/modders etc.... shrug. I really don't know answer to this myself just wondering out loud? Another possible reason? I throw this out for your opinion... As modders have accumulated more knowledge/skills etc through what has gone before, is it plausible that now mods tend to be much more complicated and so more time consuming to make. Do you think quality is overall higher than OPF days? Maybe if less mods now ( and I wonder about this) its because much bigger/more technical? Just a thought again thinking out loud. I sometimes think maybe Arma1 a bit of a blip in the BIS norm numbers wise, kind of a 1.5 version (ish) rather than a 2 version, I wonder if this reduced interest/numbers/mods... again personal opinion based on feeling rather than facts.(and maybe a bit unfair on good old BIS) As an aside I gave up on Arma1 early simply because of the number of script kiddies trashing MP games with tedious regularity, ceased to be fun especially when this just went on and on, strange mentality. @Placebo. I sometimes wonder if the twitchfest type games will eventually wear thin as so many of similar ilk churned out it just has to become monotonous sooner or later (and in my view short game life and actually pretty expensive too). Man if it all goes console I will have to admit defeat and finally realise I must be getting too old for this gamin lark :) I look at consoles and think of my daughter (still at school) playing. Mashing those horrible gizmo button thingies with all those buttons in places I never remember what the heck they do and where they are lol. As for flying with one... pure blasphemy lol, just not cricket :) Darn I AM starting to be a Dinosaur. I get saddened when I go to major retail chain and see shrinking size of PC games being retailed, space now devoted to consoles/games/ blasted nintendos/ where colour matters? whats that all about lol I mean what the heck does the colour matter... sheesh strange priorities, mobile phones and laptop bags.. man thats downhill all the way (: Hey I need my next mobile phone to be pink says my wife... ER hello if its at your ear how do you know what colour it is I say lol. OH and what the heck is wrong with your current phone... Wot it doesn't have many games... hello its a phone lol people ring you on it..It works perfectly Thats why its called a phone and it even does texts, heck you dont even understand how to do all the other stuff on the one you have. Er yeh but it's not pink she says..... thats it I am old ggrrhh... now I just have to practice being grumpy :) Gen :D

Why is this game not more popular?

Surely the fact that it has a long life cycle implies they are doing a reasonable job already? It won't have a long life cycle or so many repeat customers if they are so far off the mark? Perfect no but I guess they are doing something pretty right already to stick to the formula for releases they seem to use repeatedly? Still buying after 8/9 years of OFP/Arma series, I doubt that would be the case if no mods. I do wonder if the fact that mods prolong life for existing already paid out customers knocks on. Ok the initial longterm buyer has already splashed the cash, and won't pay out again until a new "extension" RES/ etc gets released, but think of this aspect... everytime a good mod comes out it gets plastered all over Youtube etc. I gotta assume this generates new sales even some considerable months or even years after the game went gold? I remember seeing OFP in a retail outlet some 3 years after going gold.. I assume it must still have been selling for them to continue stocking it? How many of us will for sure buy the next "installment"? I would guess an above average no of existing customers. My personal opinion.... that's grossly unfair. Maybe everything we want or desire is not given, or not at the speed we would like, but heck there are priorities, bills to pay, the future to secure and look at how many mods there are and that are still in the pipeline... nuff said. Thats one heck of a lot of modders voting with their feet? Perfect no. Better than pretty much any other moddable game ( military sim/game) on the planet... You decide. No heated debate... just my view. As an aside.. I happen to know that at least one user who was sh*t hot at scripting etc in OFP days became an employee. To me that says hey these guys are actively watching the mod community, and always have? I also notice that some mods eventually make their way into a subsequent retail release,, hmmm... Personal opinion, they just dont make a song and dance about it, they chose priorities, quietly watch what is popular, who is doing good stuff etc etc, and react... but maybe not in the timeframe that's obvious to us sometimes? PS BIS (Do I get a lifetime free membership now? LOL) Ok I joke but that's my feeling on this (and yes I am not a modder) Apols for long post, you winding me up lol.. I go chill out now :) Cheers Gen

197.13 Nvidia drivers very bad ctd's

Guess I may hold fire on updating drivers till the next one then. Am still using prev driver with occassional CTD, but I had put that down to trying various page file sizes to see which performs best on my underspec machine. Interesting you mention coastline areas, as I get much higher framerate if sea is visible, I assumed this meant less graphics mem or cpu required. Or maybe its more a case of if you can see the sea you can see less mem/processor hogging trees? Gen

Time to get more serious and get some more hours practicing accuracy in my LittleBird. No second chances on extractions, time is critical. So bam bam bam consequitive accurate landings it is, practice practice and then when it's good, practice practice practice some more. I need to get this baby like an extension of my right arm. Spot target landings are the way to go I reckon. Get in, get out, and remember this Heli has minimal armour and even less weapons. Speed and low height is only defence. Why is this game not more popular?

When a thread header asks for opinions all opinions should be open for debate. Differences of opinion and the sheer volume of input into this thread (70 pages already) shows there IS a significant amount of interest in making Arma more popular.. That for me is healthy. Some want change, some see no need, thats RL. Flaming is pointless, is like verbal terrorism, and has no place in "Grown ups" discussion. OK here is my tech question. Some may already be covered but spread out over a zillion threads so I try to get a focused tech opinion. I have little tech knowledge of net/web/server etc, but just wanted to ask some of you "brainy" guys a tech question. On the assumption that rightly or wrongly many Users/ wouldbe users find addons etc either not easy/can't be arsed or whatever. Not here to debate if users lazy, inept/ want spoonfed/ dumbed down/ etc. Technically/ and from a security aspect, is it possible for a click on a web page to initiate Arma with the correct addons added to the startup command line... and join the server... is this secure? As a tech challenged longterm OFP vet I can't help wondering if this whole debate couldn't be resolved, and progress made if there was some mechanism that allowed a MP server search option to channel the user to a pregame web page that included some sort of direct link to a yoma style installer/updater for the specific addons needed by the server. Once updated the webpage could contain a link to the mp game and start up arma with the correct addons activated? This is pretty much what Yoma can do, BUT if you add to this web page hotlinks for whatever voice links and configs are required for voice keybinds, also links to dload said voice apps. As an aside I struggle to find many servers that actually have addon configs for use with Yoma, ( I may be doing this incorrectly though) Understandable as bandwidth costs money, but limiting none the less. I toy with the idea that maybe some Yoma type app pre start of arma could "hotlink" to correct files at somewhere like "armaholic"? Of course then there maybe an issue of users not actually browsing the actual Armaholic site and so losing the site its pay per clicks or whatever (not sure how armaholic operates revenuewise, no disrespect intended) Summary Can a webpage containing hotlinks to addons/voice apps/ arma startup be made that ties everything for a specific MP server together on one page, instigates voice in advance of the game, dloads/updates addons to correct user folder/ starts arma with correct addons loaded, closes the web page while voice app continues to function? Can scripts within the page automate most of this based on user choices/clicks? A neatening up of everything if you like. After that each server just needs a templated webpage. I have to assume as a non tech person this WOULD add a seperate need for the web page to NOT be Hosted on the MP server to keep bandwidth available for gaming. I also assume that no webpage contains the actual files but rather small scripts to automate the retrieval/installation of addons etc. I also assume that if a reasonable idea ultimately some Central Web Page would contain a list of all registered game servers who are implimenting this system, a recognised index if you like. Do-able, secure? Impractical? Useful? Feel free to give some tech input or alternatives, this is just a thinking out loud from a non tech user perspective. (can't help wondering if Xfire could'nt solve most of this) I think of all of this as not spoonfeeding lazy people, but more of a streamlining of the steps required for playing MP with voice and the sorting of addons in a streamled way. As a final aside I would remind some who may not be aware that way back OPF was not intially designed to have MP element, it was "tacked on" almost. A small part that has grown and become very significant to longterm viablity of series. (not an opinion, search early OFP threads for more info) I sometimes wonder if the base MP code from way back, is a limiting factor in what can be done now. Gen
