Thanks for this post and all the great replies. I just happened to upgrade to 6gigs from 4 on my system. Going to try the beta patch first and see how that runs. If I don't see any gains I will attempt to setup a Ramdrive. Thanks again for everyone's great work on this thread! It should be stickied!

Here's how I got ARMA2 to perform smoothly using RAMDISK
jigawatt replied to qwertz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, I am up to 6gigs of ram on my PC now. Going to try and create a 4gig ramdisk and find out which files are loaded the heaviest and throw those in there. Hopefully I will see some performance gains. I have noticed one strange thing though. When I first start off playing (campaign) my frames are in the mid to low 30's. After a while of gaming they dip down to the 20's. A reboot of my PC seems to fix the issue until I start getting into the 1 hour mark of playing again. *EDIT* Nm, I found Liquidpinky post. http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1464956&postcount=100 Thanks! -
ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
jigawatt replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, I have tried and tried to tweak this game but can only get about 20ish FPS in cities. Windows 7 64bit Retail EVGA 680I Motherboard Intel Q8200 Quad Core 500gig Samsung Spinpoint SATA3.0 Sapphire 4870 512meg (Latest ATI drivers) 6gigs Crucial PC6400 I have used the tweaks suggested from the Armaholics Optimization forum thread and used the No Bloom, Low Res Structures/Buildings/Vegetation mods. Also using the -winxp, -cpucount=2. The cpucount actually gave me about 5 frames, so that one worked pretty well. If I recall correctly, my ingame settings are (starting with left row down) low, default, off, off, low, medium, low, low, disabled. I have my view distance set to 2000 and my resolution and 3D set to 1680x1050. It is still playable, just wanting to push a few more frames if I can. -
Codemasters forums are currently down. Tried to read that thread but I am unable to get any community.codemasters page to load. Oh well, crap game crap forums.

I'm running the game on Win 7 64bit 680i LGA775 MB Core2 Due E6550 Radeon 4870 512MB 4 gigs Crucial Ballistix 2x Sata Drives (independent) On default settings I get pretty low frames. Still tweaking a bit here and there to get it running good. Have not had any CTD's or BSOD's.

HA! I do the same things lol. I mainly like to fly the huey. Spawn one at the airbase with some soldiers on the side. Load them up and fly off to a city land and have them exit. Mainly just practicing before I go online in co-op, perfecting my transportation duties! :D

Sorry, no I have not watched the video. I mainly check these forums while at work :p and I am unable to watch that video.

LOL! Good catch :bounce3:

:icon_ohmygod: It's like talking to a brick wall! You still didn't read... http://www.ebooks.com/ebooks/book_display.asp?IID=227530 I'm done going in circles with you... :aa:

So you are saying you are going to be able to use the following online as quoted per Leopardi A Wallhack cheat? Ummm, no, this isn't going to be something used online... unless it is being described here wrong. Undestroyable tanks - What would be the point of playing anything else... The rest I don't care about.
-
Whats up with the TF2 style cartoony graphics? They look different from L4D1
-
I didn't watch the youtube video. Who cares if they get that in the collectors edition... not like you are going to be able to use that crap online lol.
-
Man, you really misread my post entirely. Sheesh... :391: Please show me where I said there are thousands of players. Go ahead, scroll up and quote it if you can find it... because I can't. Oh wait.... here is what I said which you took out of context: You asked the following question; And I gave the reasons why subscription fees are needed for MMO style games. That doesn't mean WWIIOnline in general, that pertains to all MMO games. WWIIOnline can handle up to thousands of players, but I didn't say it does have thousands. Hell, I don't even play WWIIOnline anymore, there is no point since the community is so small. Maybe if you read my initial post you would have caught that... ADD? You seriously need to chill out and relax, especially with that stupid Codemasters reference :o: I don't care about OFPDR...

Great post Chaostika7-17th and the video really shows the dedication that Grant had in making COD4:MW for all platforms, especially PC. Really wish he was still there... :(

I got banned from their forums on Monday... Oh well, good riddance to that game and site. Actually, good riddance to Codemasters, last product I will ever touch of theirs.

VISTA can't shutdown my computer UNLESS it hibernates! WTF??
jigawatt replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in OFFTOPIC
Vista has been described as the Windows Millenium of 2007. ME was released on Sep 14th 2000 and was complete trash, then XP was released on October 25th 2001. Now look at Vista released on January 30th 2007 and the release of Windows 7 released on October 22 2009. Close release dates. It's like MS releases a crap OS, then expands on it to release an improvement upon that OS within 2 years or close to it. $$$... -
Have at it, that is if you want a dumbed down console game on your PC. BAAA BAA sheep.
-
I didn't pre-order it, but I sure as hell will not buy it now. I'll get it and play SP, but not putting money down on it. If I can get on MP I'll get on there just to be an a-hole. Just like what I did with OFPDR...

What all have you tried to remedy the problem? Start reading! http://www.google.com/search?q=unable+to+shut+down+vista&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a -
Stats, ranking, online persistent world, large scale battles from air/land/sea with up to thousands of players. That's why you pay a monthly subscription. I'm guessing you have never played an online MMO where you have to pay a monthly fee? It's pretty basic practices... If you don't want to play it you don't have to lol.

I played during the beta and at release for about a year. The player base just was not big enough for the type of battles I expected. Plus we had a ton of issues on release day... floating tanks! Lag galore! For the time of it's release, the graphics were manageable... but by today's standard, they are flat out ugly. But on the other hand, graphics don't make the game for me, game play does, and WWIIOnline has some outstanding game play. Only if it's user base was larger :( I don't play it anymore, last time I tried was a couple of years ago. Just not enough people online to have real fun.

Same questions here. Read through this whole thread and see a lot of different configs/claims but no real explanation. I have the following hardware EVGA LGA775 68oI Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe Radeon 4870 Crucial Ballistix 4GB DDR2 800 2x SATA drives WDC/Samsung Basically, I'd like to know what settings I should use for local/nonlocal VRAM. And if I should upgrade my CPU. I can upgrade to a Quad core for about $150, that is the lowest Quad they have. I have been trying to tweak this game for about 2 days now and can only get into the low 30FPS range. *EDIT* Well, I'm going to read over the Armaholic webpage that was linked in page 1 when I get home. Site is blocked here at work :( Hopefully that will cover what I need to do.

I played about 8 to 9 missions into OFPDR and played a few online co-op games. In my honest opinion, the game is a dumbed down arcade version of OFP. It is quite apparent the game was made for a console, whether it was ported to PC or not... it has all the features of a console game. No dedicated server support (even though the box says it does... false advertisement) No cd key/player ID No anti-cheat No mod support No game protection These are the biggest issues for a PC gamer. The vehicles and weapons are again, console'ish. Vehicles and aircraft bounce of objects like rubber. There is no 3rd person view for when driving nor can you pan your head around while operating a vehicle. The weapons seem like their on rails, but their is a tad bit of bullet drop which is nice. Sprinting has no effect on rifle accuracy, you can sprint for 100 yards, stop and take a perfect shot. The interface is very clunky and designed for a console user with the D-Pad in mind, especially the radial command menu. I just flat out don't like it, prefer OFP:CWC/R and Arma/Arma2 over it, much more commands to use with those games. Even the game menu's are setup for console... I just don't like it when developers do that to PC games... very lazy. Don't even get me started on the MP browser/menu... Overall, the game is decent in it's own right. It is not a milsim at all, more of an open box arcade shooter. Codemasters tried to make an OFP game but failed only to make a console arcade sandbox shooter. Maybe that was their intentions, but don't rattle off your game as "most realistic shooter!" when it clearly is not, not even close... I guess the console guys will like it, but as far as PC gamers go... this one should be tossed aside.

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
jigawatt replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You need to open your case and check your motherboard chipset, it is either going to be Nvidia/Intel/SIS/VIA/AMD, etc.. Or check your device manager under System Devices. Once you have that information you can head over to their website and check for driver updates for your motherboard. They should be pretty simple to install, almost like any other driver. Will more than likely have updates for your ethernet, SATA/Raid, etc. For example, my board is an EVGA Nvidia 680I SLI. I would go to Nvidia's website to download updated drivers for my board. http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_win764_15.51.html And it has the following information for the release highlights Windows 7 64-bit Driver Versions: * Ethernet Driver (v73.14) WHQL * Network Management Tools (v73.16) "Sedona" * SATAIDE Driver (v11.1.0.33) WHQL * SATARAID Driver (v11.1.0.33) WHQL * RAIDTOOL Application (v11.1.0.30) * SMBUS Driver (v4.74) WHQL * SMU Driver (v1.71) WHQL * Installer (v7.57) * Audio Driver (v1.00.00.59) I would download the package and install. I would only choose what I really need though, like I don't need the Network Mngt Tools, Raid, or Audio Driver, but the rest I would install. If you need further help you can PM me or just post in here. As far as this post and the game, I selected: Good game, Some problems ive managed to over come now running smooth Had some issues on initial install with Win XP 32 bit. Artifact issues, nothing I tried corrected the problem and I read this forum inside and out for about 2 hours trying every tweak/config I could. Ended up upgrading to Win 7 64, needed to anyways this just made me do it faster. I was on Vista 64 before but it crashed on me and I didn't go back to it. Game runs pretty smooth now, 30'ish constant FPS on ground and in air so it's stable. Still tweaking a bit more to pump out some more FPS on highest settings. -
Addon/Mods to increase performance

That's it, thanks again KJU. I didn't catch that while I was at work lol.
