    ArmA3 Wishlist and Ideas

    Correct the hand position on the guns... it just looks bad. Warpo's comment, improve the weather system. It really sets the mood in games and it's not fun to play in perfect weather all the time (I know you can change the weather in the game, it still needs work). ... and animations/control of the game and I'll be a more than happy camper.

    They should leave in the old command style and have a default called "Legacy" so people won't complain. That 0-0-1 stuff has gotten me killed so many times it's not even funny... I avoid using AI as well. I would recommend they'd remove the spacebar command. It seems like a good idea, but in practice it doesn't work like you need it to (well, I don't tend to use it anyway). And there were a bunch of complaints about spacebar scanning. Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't use it that much. I'd really like to just tell the AI the formation and mode (aggressive, stealth, etc)... I realize that isn't possible sometimes, but I don't want to feel like I am micro managing them... you, look over there, be aware... like shouldn't they be aware anyway? Maybe the default shouldn't be safe... I don't know.

    Arma 3 Dx11 & 64 bits

    This has been addressed in multiple threads... Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, but please use the search feature. I'll summarize: The devs have come out and stated there is no advantage at this point to do to 64 bit. The pointers are twice the size and instructions are bigger. Since Arma 3 is probably more than half way getting developed and they'd have to basically start over making engine for the game, which would take a great deal of time. I'm sure they will go to 64, just not yet.

  5. So, someone bought me the Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm game... It's not a great game, but it does have one thing going for it. For the most part, the waves in the sea are pretty good. The company liquid dragon that made the game uses a Dual band tillable FFT waves with procedural foam gen... anyway, here is the link to the description from them...http://www.liquiddragon.com/tech.php And here is a video of some waves from the game.

    Why is this game not more popular?

    Good point. I came from a Battlefield 2, CoD, and then America's Army background trying to get the happy medium from people running and gunning to something with a little more strategy and found Arma 2. My thinking was, cool, now people won't wander into incoming fire if they are getting shot at... I soon found out playing the campaign there is a huge learning curve, like Eve and the controls were not very intuitive (e.g radio commands/spacebar commands). So, I spend hours and hours just trying to figure out how to play the game because the training was not great. Usually, this is a barrier for most players to have to put in this much time to just run around and shoot when they first get a game. The next barrier was actually finishing the campaign, but eventually that got done and the story is what brought me through that. So, what is left? Online multi player and the forums. I found the suggestion area and started posting some ideas that didn't get very far in the forum regarding the UI and controls. Some people love the style of commanding in Arma, I don't so I just ignore it most of the time. But it feels like if anything is changed in the old school guys are going to reem you a new one one the forum or threaten rage quit because of your stupid idea. So, for the most part I quit posting suggestions or even going back to view suggestions I posted because of the hate threads. That left multi player... and where do you begin? Finding a server that you don't needs mods for is a start... new players usually don't think they need mods to play the game normally. Then there are the game types (which are all user made)... I remember getting into a game and having some guy yell about all the new players not knowing what to do... then quitting the game to find some old long video of a guy explaining how to play the game. Okay... :( CoD, BF2, are good games, they are fun and easy to pick up and that is why they are so popular. Arma can learn some things from them, and they could learn some things from Arma. Hell, even the evil "don't mention his name" current OFP has a simple quick interface that I believe is better in ways because you don't have to memorize the command set to use it (... and here come the flames...). You have to think about it... if there is a new guy that is willing to come to the forum and post ideas/suggestions to change the game or wants to know how to do something in the game, play it, how a game mode works, etc. They've already jumped through a bunch of huddles to get there and they are still willing to want to play the game, try to help them. They could have just put the game down and never played it again. /off soapbox :D
  7. Now that much of the panic threads have been created based on pictures. I think it would be wise to compile a list of questions for the marketing/devs to answer so when they do release some information, they'll know what we want to know about the game. Do not debate or comment on the thread please. Serious questions only. Has the view distance increased from 10,000 meters? Are those dynamically created clouds (based on the first picture)? Have you changed the water effects (wave creation) from Arma 2? Will boats/subs be playable in a multi-player way?

    First off, I read the link to someone's thesis paper on ragdoll physics and frankly didn't see the point of that link, because it didn't address MP syncing and ragdoll, just the process of a person who didn't know ragdoll, implementing it, and the problems they ran into. I have to fully agree with DMarkwick, there are solutions for this syncing the ragdoll effects.

    So, let me understand this... Your argument against having ragdoll deaths (because that is the only time you really use it) is because you 'may' want to use the body for cover? When is the last time you've done that in game? Or anyone for that matter?

    Just because it is rag-doll doesn't mean it has to be ridiculous rag-doll where the guy goes flying across the screen when he is dead or shot even. You can be shot and fall down and not die. Plus this removes the "forced" dead animation, so situations where the guy is in the car - gets shot, dies, gets out of the car and falls down dead is solved by this.

    Holy cow Arma 3!!! The screen shots look freakin' amazing. Yeah, that is a Comanche. I remember when that got cancelled, but there was a war to fund... anyway, it will be cool to see in a game.

    Well, why this is off topic, it would take a great deal of QA time to ensure everything was right in the 'entire' world, plus all the assets you'd have to make, and to make sure each was in the right place etc. With one island, you can control that, and it probably fits into the story they are creating. While, I'd like to believe this is about using Outerra, it's still speculation. Same as T_D's answer, though it is a good answer and I currently think it is the answer, it may not be the right one. I mean, Ascii characters have 7-bits, those 21 numbers may be 3 letters. (yes, I know the math doesn't work because of the senary, just an example...)

    ^ you'd still have to populate the world with stuff. Unless you had a procedural generator for towns/roads... not impossible.

    @Old Bear - single rotor... @SliceySlice - I believe that was a fictional helicopter (I thought it was that too at first), and the tail is wrong.

    I don't really care if the photo is really or fake or doctored... but there are things in it that are fun to figure out. The helicopter is big on my list. I looked for an hour online and can't find a match for it. Trying the figure out where the pic was taken from is just fun. And I think it looks more like a KA-52 then a ka-50, but at this point it doesn't matter much

    exactly Khaos... exactly. I've been trying to figure out where they took the picture from, it looks like the north of the airport. Google maps is showing that is a dirt road. The reason I think it is from the north is because the small building on the left would match the layout with the parking lot and view of the airfield.

    @Papanowel - is there a double rotor version of the AH-2? The picture clearly has a double rotor. As for the picture, I'm like 95% it is real, but here are some oddities to the picture. Notice how there is a shadow for the telephone pole but the weeds in the foreground have no visible shadow. And the first road on the left is completely white... or maybe I've been looking at this pic too long.

    Something is up with that helicopter... is it experimental? It looks like an Mi-28 and a Ka-52 had a baby and that is what is in the pic.

    okay, here are some half-cocked theories... all are related to some "resistance" fighters all are related to battles, but I wouldn't expect any less at this point. all have years, the fighter and a place off things one has a painter name - Goya two have director names - Lean and Reynolds one is an author - Duffy and one is a game company - Bohemia 3 - are direct battle references 5 - references to battles totally off the wall ideas at this point - maybe the clue is Resistance... so, either that is a remake of OFP:Resistance or sequel to it... ...or it is resistance as in fiction, i.e. physics - the only thing I have to back that up is the ascii wall (trying to link other clues together here). Now, let total brain fry go! melting in 3, 2, 1...

  24. So, I've been playing with the FSMs and found the formation and danger FSMs can be over written. As a test, the formation FSM was overridden just loop every second and write out to global. The same was done with the danger FSM. When you start you see the FSM for formation start, and a second goes by, and it is fine. I fire a gun, the danger FSM is triggered. And it keeps re-triggering, as in it continues to say "DANGER FSM STARTED" then an occasional second will tick by and the "Danger FSM time 2" will fire off, then the DANGER FSM STARTED again... Is this how this is supposed to work? :confused:

    @MrRightclick 1. just make a script to delete any zombies, also could be set off by trigger or distance 2. The spawn operation can be stopped by setting this variable in the module´s variable space : MODULENAME setvariable ["CHN_UNDEAD_SM_ACTIVE",false,true]; So, to do this you'd probably just make a trigger that set it off. 3. No mixing of the zombies/infected that I am aware of.
