  1. My OA was working fine until my dumbass patched it from 1.5 to 1.52. It was only after getting the DVD read error that I read the info on it....NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE STEAM VERSION OF THE GAME. And they are NOT kidding about this!! :( It might not have been 1.5 so I don't know.

Arma 2 VERY slow with Win 7 64 bit!

First off, thanks to EVERYONE that helped me here. Second, what are the Nvidia tweaks that you speak of to increase framerate? Thirdly, I found out I probably have multiple issues. I was encrypting my hard drive, but that had been days prior, I figured it had long finished. Well, it was encryping in the background and was NOT done. It is now and gameplay is MUCH smoother. However, my computer hangs up on POST when I go to reboot so it looks like a motherboard BIOS issue. I called MSI and they said they'd send me another one if I return this one (why would I want this POS anyway?) so I'll be changing it out soon.
  3. I'm not sure what to do! My computer is a quad core AMD with 8 gigs of RAM and a 9800GTX+ video card and it takes forever for Arma 2 to load now! It loaded super fast with Win XP 32 bit. Is there some setting I need to adjust? I'm using the steam version. It actually takes about 4 minutes to load the game and while playing it's man...........................in front of...............................us. Target..........................................................that.............................................man. I can't figure out whats choking it up! Any ideas? Any settings I need to tweak? Thanks for any help you can give me!
  4. It doesn't seem to matter whether I play MP or SP, in some missions after some amount of time the screen freezes and comes back in 256 colors with a huge error box saying my NV4 (or whatever) video card drivers stopped working. A reboot fixes the issue, but it's not clear what causes it. I've tried different settings on the video menu in game, to no avail. I have the 9800GTX+ video card and get stable 25fps game play with settings really high up there. I'm running XP 32 bit and have had it do this with several different driver versions. It's also never done it with any other game before, with the exception of Arma1, which gave me many of the same errors. Please, anyone have any ideas?

Need help with the laser designator

Oh yes, it works fine, thanks for the help! I beat the mission but it took me so long to navigate to the bridge that a convoy that was supposed to not cross managed to but they called it a success anyway but I didn't get the green dot showing it was a success. :(

Need help with the laser designator

Its a single player mission called "laser" that I downloaded in a package of 13. It is by far the most fun I've ever had with this game. What's funny is I saved the mission, and then like 60 seconds later the bomb hits and kills me as I'm too close. So when I returned to my saved game I had about 1 minute to haul butt as far away as I could and hurry up and lase the bridge! LOL And then I died trying to return to base by bad guys I never saw. It's a freakin' blast.

Where is the action menu? I brought up the command and it said "target acquired" and still nothing happened. Nevermind, I found it. You have to go to "reply" under the command menu, then go down to "radio" and that gave me the option "call airstrike".

Need help with the laser designator

Yes, it's a night mission so I see a big white spot in the middle of the crosshairs. I just sit there with the white spot on the bridge and nothing happens.
  9. I'm currently doing a mission where I must lase a bridge. I made it to the bridge and am lasing it and nothing is happening. What else do I need to do? Thanks!

    Patch 1.05 suggestions

But I didn't see a single shell impact. I'd rather ARMA2 in that regard.

    The different difficulty levels...

I meant for like pre-made single player missions. I don't know how to use the mission editor or anything.
  12. In these different levels, you know, beginner, advanced, etc, what does that actually change? I play on the toughest level and even firing a single shot from a suppressed weapon at night yields me instant death if I'm within eyeshot, their first shot hits the mark every time, even if I'm behind a bush or tree. Would going down one level get me more accurate AI intelligence?

    ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

I happen to know about a dozen Xbox gamers who play COD religously. I spoke to them about Arma and Arma2 and this is basically the response I got. I explained to them how in Arma and Arma2 the maps are huge and that you might have to drive for 15 minutes to get where you are going if you don't have a heli to jump in. I told them that battle times are realistic and so are battles, that you might go 30 minutes without seeing anyone, walking through the woods, checking all around you for potential threats. They basically replied that was "bullsheet" and that they wanted action here and now and immediately. They didn't really care about bullet ballistics over distances or realism of guns or ammo or anything. The map wasn't very big so who cares? You used the M4 up close, the sniper rifle for long distance and the throwing knife for "cool kills." Realism was out the window of concern. I think for most part the console gamers don't know nor care about realism, they want immediate action. Nothing wrong with that. They're just different from say, me, who will pay 3 times as much to play a game that is very very real-world accurate. They think $200 for the console is a good deal, which it might be as they don't even mention words like "bugs" and "crashes to desktop" and "errors." They turn it on and play. A true dream for the PC guys! LOL :D I don't think one is better than another but I will say I have found that the xbox guys do not know nearly as much as I do about computers. I wouldn't say that about ALL xbox guys, but the dozen or so that I know personally (who all play together in a clan) don't know nor care about PC's. And that's perfectly fine. Hey, I used to play super nintendo a lot. I just get more out of Arma2 based on the realism. I think PC's have more capabilities, but those capabilities come at the cost of errors, bugs, hardware incompatibility issues, etc etc.

That was the problem, thank you. Search hidden files and it found it right away. Thanks again!!! Info like that should be in the OP of this thread.

    Arma 2 Community Issue Tracker

I'm really trying my hardest to follow the rules and post these files in .zip format for people to look at, but I don't have an Aram2.rpt file to give them. I've searched my computer twice, full search, it finds nothing. I'm getting random "Arma2 has encountered a problem and must close." errors. I'm running XP, 3.25gig RAM, Quad core processor, Nvidia card and I think the latest drivers as of a couple of weeks ago. The screen will simply lock up, unlock for a moment, then the white box of death comes up and tells me my game has ended. I'm always playing multiplayer when it does this. I know it's weak, but I have nothing else to show. I don't know what else to do. Arma 1 did the same thing at random times. It might be overheating, but nothing is overclocked and no other game crashes except Arma1 and 2, even FSX with graphics pegged out. Is there a secret to getting to the Arma2.rpt file? If it's not there, what is another option? Edit: The user below this reply helped me and I found what I needed. My files are below. My files can be downloaded here: http://rapidshare.com/files/296654382/Arma2.zip.html And my other reply can be deleted.
