  1. Performance on my machine seems to exceed that of ARMA2 as well. I loved ARMA and I can see a lot of potential here to step it up. The graphics look great which adds to the immersion and I've already had a firefight that was cooler than any that I had in ARMA2. Especially when I had an MG firing down at me from the top of the ridge and he was barely visible against the sun. I had been wounded, heart racing, screen blurring in and out and saw a slight silhouette from where I could see the tracers eminating from and could make out a bunch of sandbags below the ridge that he was using for cover. Popped a couple of shots and the firing suddenly stopped. Silhouette gone. One of the best moments in a shooter ever, done within 1 hour of playing an Alpha build! My only gripe so far and it's one I had with ARMA2 and probably won't be fixable until graphics power increases is the foliage drop off at distance. Can be in quite thick grass that covers your position and at times making it difficult to see out of and giving the illusion of being hidden but enemy at not too far a distance doesn't draw that foliage making you stand out like a beacon. I was hoping something could be done to correct that in ARMA3.
  2. My first 10 seconds playing the Infantry portion caused my PC to chuck a wobbly requiring me to do a reset to reboot. Since then, I've not had any problems with an hour of play time on the same infantry mission and mucking about a little with the editor. Are your drivers all up to date? Have you rebooted at all?
  3. Cheers, looking at the readme of the version I downloaded, thought there was only one version. Thanks.
  4. I've tried copying the files over to a virtual machine so I can try and run a dedicated server with lots of AI to lessen the burden on my main machine (it runs about 2fps if I play 32 player Blitzkreig with AI enabled) but when I add -server to the executable, the game wants to be unlocked again. Apparently there's dedicated server beta files in a recently released beta patch but I don't see anything other than another ironfront.exe? Is there another executable that'll allow a server to be run?
  5. I'm just finding it frustrating at the moment. My German campaign, taken out the mortars - head back to base. The first time all my AT gun crews were blown up so got into one of them. Took out the 4 tanks but the uber tank sat there while I peppered it with at least 10 shells before it smacked me. Second time around, took ages to try and find the trigger but by that time, it didn't matter as one of the 4 tanks had rolled right up to that same trigger point casually taking out all my infantry. Third time, CTD. Ok, try a Soviet campaign. After crashing at least half a dozen times at the intro, got to the part where you tell your crew what to shoot at in the tank as a commander. Mark the target, tell them to fire, they miss every time. Ran out of rounds.
  6. Hilarious. I refresh and it'll bounce between released and coming soon. It's a little after 3am so patience is too thin to wait, ended up just buying it through Bistudio's link. Almost guaranteed that when it shows up on Steam, it'll be more than $29 anyway.

What's your music volume in game?

There's music in-game? I think I instinctively turn it off the very first moment I load a game after an install.
  8. I'm not quite sure if you really do know what the System Idle process does. It actually doesn't do anything. It's a sum of available processor time. If you're alt-tabbing out to have a look, it's likely ARMAII is put in (for want of a better term) a paused state since it's currently not the focus and therefore isn't representative of processor utilisation while it is the focus. I have a 2nd screen and running Windows 7 and using a widget that maps processor utilisation on all cores. When ARMAII is running, I'm getting between 40%-60% utilisation per core. If I swap out, it drops dramatically. If you don't have the luxury of a 2nd screen, try performance monitor. I think you'll find that nasty System Idle process will use less while you're actually in-game.
  9. Are you running an i7 processor? I get the same if I don't disable hyperthreading. I haven't tried it enabled with 1.04 though. 50fps on my machine feels very smooth.
  10. Funny thing is, if I host an MP game within my game I take a huge FPS hit. If I run a XP virtual machine in the background and off it run a dedicated server, I get a minimal hit. I just host it off a 2nd machine running VMWare, though it does seem to max the proc at 100%
  11. Disabling the Hyperthreading. Doesn't hurt to give it a try. Seems to affect different people different ways. HT enabled causes huge stutters and low FPS on my i7/GTX295. Disable it and I get no stutters and excellent performance.
  12. Have you tried disabling HT in BIOS? I can make my GTX295 run at 20fps with huge stuttering by enabling that feature. :(
  13. Doesn't happen my end. I have 12GB so if I don't use -winxp then I feel like I'm playing on cartoon island. However, it does nothing to limit my frames. I do set vsync when I'm not doing an ARMAIIMark run (which I net between 5100 and 5300 and wouldn't be possible if it was locked at 30fps)

    Mild Sexual Themes?

From my observations of running round that island, not many women to choose from... and those chickens look damn saucy.
  15. Sounds more like a placebo effect to me. Doesn't matter what directory the executable is installed in, there's nothing special about the x86 folder - it's not going to cripple the game if it just happens to be installed in there.
  16. Yes, we've had this conversation before. Glad it works for you, clearly doesn't work for me - otherwise I'd go ahead and enable it and be happy.
  17. Yes. At least for ARMA2 there is a significant boost from turning HT off. On my i7 it stutters like crazy with HT on and is smooth with it off. cpucount=4 makes no difference when HT is on.

    Beta patch fail for me

The patch installed an exe that you need to run as a mod for it to do anything, otherwise everything else was untouched on my machine. So don't run the beta mod, you can go back to neglecting your family.

    Note for i7 users

I also have 12GB and a GTX295 running Windows 7...? Tried it a few times. With ARMA2 Mark, I get a higher score on my first pass with HT disabled than I do on my 2nd pass with it enabled and cpucount=4. :( 2nd pass, I surpass the mark by at least 1000. Oh well, maybe next patch. :) ---------- Post added at 06:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:37 AM ---------- Ran beta and non beta last night testing HT on a Steam installation. There may have been a couple of frames improvement but nothing noticeable on my rig as I managed to get 5140 on ARMA2 Mark where my previous best on 1.03 was 5030. But seeing as it's not a true benchmark, you can't really compare two scores so close. Never noticed the coloured smoke on the tank walk tho!

    Note for i7 users

I still get noticeable frame rate drop and stuttering with -cpucount=4. ARMA2Mark is 1000 less with HT enabled and cpucount=4. :(
  21. If you got an i7, disable HT. Yeah, bites but made a huge difference on my machine. With regards to crashing - same problem here, appears to be an i7/200 series GTX issue. Hopefully they can resolve it. Rarely play singleplayer, mainly MP. Sometimes I've logged onto a server and before I can actually do anything, crash. Sometimes I can go for an hour or two. Frustrating and never occured during 1.2 to me, hopefully they can find and resolve the issue.
  22. Damn, I had considered masking out the multithreaded 'cores' so that I didn't have to disable HT (which did stop the stuttering by quite a margin on my i7). HT probably isn't going to affect performance of anything I run today, hopefully BIS can find out what's causing it eventually so I can re-enable HT.
  23. I seem to also be suffering from the i7/295 crashes during Multiplay. Wasn't as prelevant in 1.02 for whatever reason. Running Win7/64 with 12GB RAM and Steam version. Faulting application name: arma2.exe, version: 1.3.0.58627, time stamp: 0x4a783ab2 Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0xffffffff Faulting process id: 0x14f8 Faulting application start time: 0x01ca1bfde631ea43 Faulting application path: g:\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\arma2.exe Faulting module path: unknown Report Id: 153fc390-87fb-11de-823a-005056c00008 Seems similar to the app errors above.
  24. Steam seemingly did download the whole game again - just checked my useage and there was 4.5GB downloaded while I was asleep and I had no downloads queued. Oh well, was all down before I woke up. :)
