ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
krazypoloc replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Uhh...unless the BS coders are omnipresent...then this would be completely true, not the above stated. -
Nope not my rig thats the issue man....I encountered a LOT more bugs than I did crashes. I would say if I played the game 7 days a week for 5-6 hours a day it might crash once or twice. It is the bugs that really bother me the most. I play on my server/workstation rig which is on 24/7, this is the same machine that I do all my rendering and encoding on and is completely 100% rock solid stable. I also play ETW a LOT. And the only crashes I get are on the campaign map, never actually in battle. That game is a POS for crashes as it crashed all the time until its most recent patch and still does at certain points. That game is very strange because the crashes are completely reproducible. IE if I take 2 units out of 1 city to some where the game will crash, then if I go back and just take 1 unit out it will be fine, go back to the save point and try and take the 2 units again and it will crash like clockwork every time. You certainly are on of the lucky ones in this respect as people with very high end setups were having MAJOR issues with this game since I last played.

I too have had experiences just like the OP, and it wasn't because of the "learning curve" I love the realism in the game....it keeps the 10 year old mic spamming noobs out and allows for a finer more serious level of gameplay not seen on games like the BF series or any other game really....other than maybe World In Conflict which is another excellent game. The thing that made me put the game down for over a month now...(I just checked and it looks like it was patched the 5th)....so tomorrow I will have to fire it up again and see if the bugs, performance issues, crashes, and just horrible technical issues in general are still there. I pre-ordered the game and while I was anxiously Steaming it....palms sweaty and eyes a glow.....upon launching it I came to realize there were no textures....AT ALL!! And I have a pretty vanilla setup, HD4870, Q6600, Vista x64.......how was this not caught in testing? Honestly!!?? So then I have to spend hours of my valuable time for a game that I PAID $50 for....and hack the ini file and add shortcut switches just to make the game look like its not running on Windows 98......no I take that back Windows ME.....and then once the game loads up for the first time in all its glory it looks amazing, on single player training maps....MP is a WHOLE NOTHER STORY!! I won't even get into the lack of rhyme r reason for the graphics settings.....or the INI files resetting themselves when the game launches unless you make them read only.....and then sometimes the game doesn't load the INI file because it doesn't like being told that it can't modify its own files......yes I said it.....the game was clearly mad at me at some point in time....with all the prodding and tweaking......not unlike a bad Jewish dentist I was.... I'll get back to you when I fire the game up again and give it another go......maybe I'm spoiled but I'm not used to having to bug check fully released games inside and out...sure maybe a tweak here and there but sheesh.. ---------- Post added at 04:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:18 AM ---------- Yeah what he said! OFP 2 comes out early next month....I'm surely gonna check that out!

Yeah I played for a bit tonight and don't see any improvement......very hard to make a notable change and attribute it to the drivers as the game still has a massive amount of bugs in the game itself.
-
The file hosting sites get the drivers from a Beta tester that uploads them.....http://ati.amd.com/products/catalyst/betatester.html I will try this out and get back to you guys......

graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
krazypoloc replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I am having the same issue. And I have custom cooling and stock clocks on my GPU - see sig for details. Oh and on a lighter note, check out this interesting glitch. -
Yeah good luck with that man. You've got my vote for a sticky on this.
-
Could someone that is running good FPS at 1920x1200 with a similar hardware configuration as mine (see sig) paste both the arma2.cfg and username.ArmA2Profile contents into this thread so I can try it. I have scoured every page on this site as far as settings go and I just can't seem to get good performance out of a high performance rig. Thanks!!!
-
Yeah I'm not surprised that it is using 100% of your E8500 as my Q6600@3.0GHz runs around 55-65% in game.
-
Yeah....this functionality really needs to be added. Seriously....its 2009.
-
are the developers themselves able to run this flawless?
krazypoloc replied to ryan80's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes I have noticed the FPS degradation as well. As when I start out a map fresh on a server with 50 people. Running around 40-50 FPS steady @1920x1200 most on High some on VH. An hour later I will be at the same base with the same amount of players and the game is absolutely crawling at 10-15 FPS and sometimes less. I love the OP's original question though. Thats the first thing I thought when I started playing. You would think, "Oh this is fun", or "Nice", or "I can't wait to start playing this". NO, NO, NO!!! My first thought was "Hmm, where are the textures?", "Hmm what is going on with this game?", "Hmm, why do the triggers in the single player missions not work and I get stuck in the same place for 30 minutes even though I have completed the objectives on THE FIRST FREAKING MISSION!!!". If I spend $50 on a game, the first experience I have should not be...."hmmm how do I fix this brand new game I just bought"......or......"Maybe its still in beta....it sure looks and feels like its in beta....not even close to finished...." I mean honestly WHAT PC's IS THIS GAME BEING TESTED ON?!!?? I have... ArmA2 1.03 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here
krazypoloc replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Thats not framerate lag in game either, its network lag. I get the same thing on just about every server I have played on. Even if I play on the Chicago servers as I live in Milwaukee, I get pretty nasty desync and lag. And thats on a 15 down 2 up Time Warner business cass line with no other WAN traffic!!! -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
krazypoloc replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Sounds like CF is not enabled. You should get almost double your FPS with an x2 at that rez. Try renaming arma2.exe to crysis.exe as this game is probably not in the 9-6 CF profiles(I take it thats what driver version you are running) driver yet. -

So I take it this thread is a "how many FPS should I be getting with X hardware at Y graphics settings"? As I really don't want to dig through 200+ pages of posts and I want to make sure I am getting the best possible FPS as I have tried many settings and manual cfg file tweaking and get some confusing results. I am an IT specialist by trade and a modder/OCer by night. :) So no need to sugar coat the acronyms here. lol. System.... random crashes d3d9.dll????
krazypoloc replied to sackmeister's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Did you verify your dxdiag info and validate it yet? Sound like an issue with a broken .dll or an old one that didn't get updated properly. windows key+r>dxdiag
