yeah I am on 32bit and I think you having the 64bit with 6G compared to my 2G ram 1G vram must be a bit more effecient. I think in the latest betas my vga card is getting hotter so must check vid mem use. I dont think it is any better at loading textures tho... when I watch my HD light it is full blast for the whole first run of Arma mark with lots of stutters. That must cause a lot of slowdown. second run is a full 1000 points better with no stutters.

In XP my perf mon only ever shows a history of the game using upto 1.5gig ram usually around a gig even if I run maxmem=2047 I also run processor scheduling and memory useage set to "Programs" in system properties.

It is not a "mod" it is a startup parameter that goes in the command line for the shortcut or OS run cmd eg goto the properties tab of your arma2 shortcut and make the Target line look like this "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -winxp also heres a link to others that help the game run better: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters heres my startup as an example also: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\beta\arma2.exe" -maxmem=2047 -nosplash -world=empty -mod=beta

Arma 2 flogs the HD like no other game I have played... I am betting your laptop has a slow HD when you run away from the initial position in the game... your pc is loading all the new information you are about to interact with, it is most likely the speed of this transfer from disk that causes the slowdown.

do you have any alarms set in bios do you have any monitoring set in windows like Realtemp/spyware etc does the pc still work or lockup after beeps it could be a temp alarm or similar in bios settings

@OP I think you will find that most ppl with a setup like yours are getting reasonable/acceptable performance... I have a similar rig on XP and get lesser but ok results, it is the latest VGA/CPU users that are not happy and I dont think your results/settings nescessarily apply to those ppl. Many of them have double they processing power but only see results similar to yours.

ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx
dogz replied to mattxr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I get the grey screen for a second or two and then it shuts down could be driver/OS specific. Alex72 I think when flying a chopper over much action in town or city I get much more slowdown in 025. -
Anyone having performance issues, ensure your virtual memory is correctly configured

this is a funny discussion... I have actually run the game for a long time with no page file on a 2G ram XP Pro install I was getting some CTD but I still got them after I set it to OS managed I have tried all and dont see much diff. Currently on same size min max but I dont think this game has ever used more than 1.5 gig mem so does not need much swapping. ps I have not played SP much only online... -
windows task manager can show you seperate processes running and things like cpu mem page file etc ctrl+alt+del in xp change the cpu history on view settings to show all cores if you check useage when there is no game running leave task manager open then start gameplay alt tab out of game and you will see the recorded useage while you were playing

If you had done as I said and simply searched for threads or posts by Bolly123 or myself you would have found many possible solutions. The last line of your response to my post tells me u did not read any of the solutions in all the other many threads on this topic... One of the main causes of no servers showing is the default filter settings in the mp browser. I posted some settings that worked for other thread starters but I dont feel compelled to help someone that wont help themselves. edit: From another thread here some settings for your browser Bolly there are no special filter settings just logical ones the higher you set max ping the more servers you are likely to see. my settings are listed below where I have blank I mean nothing is shown in that box, these settings give me only local good ping servers. and I assume you are using 1.03 host = blank max ping = 150 min players = 0 max players= 0 mission = blank type = blank full servers = show passworded = hide good luck

there are a number of threads on this topic if you search will find possible solutions that have resolved this issue in a number of different ways..... I suggest in future you search first u are lucky not to have incurred the wrath of the mods for this post... hint: search for username Bolly123

Well just played for 3 hours online with v025 and I can hear no diff from what I have always had and doing in depth comp with the vid in this thread it appears that I have always had ok sound only the occasional skip when everything is lagging/pausing. guess I am lucky, but I have not had many graphics issues either. ps except for the 360 degree heli spool up sound
-
Hmmm maybe I wont know until I hear the latest patch could be I dont know what I am missing I have only played online but I seem to hear most of what is going on other than the odd lag gap. I watched the vid in this thread and perhaps I just never see enough action to cause an issue. I will say tho I always felt things sounded a little flat and lacked any solid 3d feel.

Mo there are many posts on this topic they will come up with keyword searches. make sure you understand firewall/spyware and router settings. heres some info from another thread for your in game browser filter settings that fixed the same issue for others: there are no special filter settings just logical ones the higher you set max ping the more servers you are likely to see. my settings are listed below where I have blank I mean nothing is shown in that box, these settings give me only local good ping servers. and I assume you are using 1.03 host = blank max ping = 150 min players = 0 max players= 0 mission = blank type = blank full servers = show passworded = hide

Movement is so sluggish in all BIS games, WHY?
dogz replied to Dreepa's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I have an average rig and I dont have any sluggish movement as described only slow animations for weapon changes. ie you cant keep moving while slinging. -
this worries me as I did not have broken sound with any guns...v72 the only sound glitch I had was helis spooling up gave a 360 degree source. guess I will have to dload and hold my breath. LOL at ppl happy big bug fixed and me worried I may now have the bug... :)

Yes IRL you cant stand behind shoulder launched weaps without danger/injury. Backblast or exhaust are terms that can be used.

Arma II is going on the shelf...
dogz replied to IrishDeviant's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Masterfragg I find it interesting that ppl say they only get such low cpu utilisation... I have a 3G Q6600 2G ram and 9800GT 1G on XPpro 32 all 4 cores on my cpu run at 80 - 90% and both cpu and gpu have to be kept at full cooling to stay at sustainable temps ie my pc is using all the grunt it has. The game runs ok but seems to need more HP than I can give it, I would say it is using the resources on my machine pretty well. -
@sean... In a lot of ways WW2 warfare was more strategic because in Modern warfare the tactical battle can be engaged at much greater distances. eg shoulder launched tank killing from kilometers away along with A10 and AH guided munitions. This in effect meant that assaults in WW2 had to be carefully arranged to cordinate artillery armour and Infantry. Of course it required more large scale infantry attacks because of the ratio between medium range effective ordinance and the number of infantry etc. I love WW2 battles from a stratergy POV and Arma 2 engine would be the best total battlefield ever seen on the pc... why you may ask... because with much simpler war machinery it would be a lot less taxing on our hardware and the extra cpu cycles could go into much bigger/better battle worlds.

I dont get any input lag with v 025 and have never had any C2Q + Nvidia I have also overclocked my usb to 500hz and prerender set to 3 frames

Is what you see in the change log all we'll get?
dogz replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
short answer to thread topic...no I am sure we will see and are seeing more than listed in the changelogs. It has already been stated by a dev somewhere on this forum that the logs dont reflect every tweak hence the numbers not matching. I am sure they will save any optimisation for an official patch -
sorry Cpt but yes sn0 gave you a very clear long version if you took the rig in his sig as an example it would have many times the horspower your laptop has. even my rig has probably triple the game power of your lappy and it still struggles at times.
