Would a Martian cave system be possible?
dram replied to BigBANGtheory's topic in TAKE ON MARS - EDITING
Hi, yes that would be possible, though of course the question is how extensive :) We are hoping to do this, however one problem is the transition from surface to cave, which we are hoping to solve without the need for an abstract teleport. -
Yeah might be a good idea with the 3rd person for start. At least by default.

Hi! Yeah that is the intro mission - it is the Russian Mars 3 lander. Right click to get the cursor, and click on the icon at the bottom (to open the vehicle up). Next, driver the small Prop-M rover that deploys when you open the vehicle up for 15 seconds. You can check if you are driving it by going to 3rd person perspective if need be. Lastly, switch to the instrument HUD mode (press H to cycle through them) until you find the instrument HUD (it should be the 2nd). There, click on the center of the screen to perform the analysis. That should finish the prologue. Hope that helps!

Hello everyone. First off, we apologize for the lack of updates, we are hard at work on the Global Objectives system, the Technology Tree, Mars 3 as a vehicle, and the landing systems overhaul. These changes are quite vast and certainly game breaking until completed, hence the lack of updates. By the end of the week these things will be completed and normal daily updates to the development branch will resume. The main branch will also be updated by the end of the week or early next week. Admittedly we should have kept more in touch with you guys during this process, but there was so much to do that we needed to keep our minds set on the goal. Here on out, we'll make sure to let you guys know what is happening so that noone feels either left out or worried about where the project is headed. I look forward to feedback from you guys about the changes, a lot to look forward to!

If you mean the dev branch, then it will get the 3D printer soon...

I'm looking forward to the mission! :)

[THANK YOU TOM TEAM/Question] Cydonia Mensae
dram replied to hyphon's topic in TAKE ON MARS - GENERAL
Hey Hyphon! Glad to hear you are enjoying the addition :) As opposed to the standard 4x4km terrains, Cydonia is being done as an 8x8km monster. -
Don't worry, the power consumption and so on will still be added. Right now we are concentrating on the manned mission to get that up to par with what is in the game now. The manned mission presents the end to the Take On Mars Space Program, covering the entire exploration of Mars.
-
@Trase: Cheers! We are really elated you guys are enjoying the new content :) The programming hasn't moved at this point, but will be completed in the future. @astrospud: As Mistwalker said, the default for grab is actually 'E'. We forgot to update the 3D HUD's default controls text, sorry! It will be updated next week.

Main branch will be updated in 2 weeks or so. The dev branch will get an update next week. :)

Yes radiation is planned as well. A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the sun is potentially lethal on the surface of Mars due to no magnetic field, so this will play some part in the game as well. We're making the habitats, the landing module, and the large manned vehicle shielded from this though, to give the player a place to run for cover. Feedback will shape this of course.

What should i research after small landers?
dram replied to Fixxerdot's topic in TAKE ON MARS - GENERAL
Awesome :) We're glad you like it! -
Cheers for the report: 1) Isidis and Ptolemaeus are meant to be available later through the robotic phase: 2) Deimos looks... interesting. Will fix asap :)
-
Cheers! I hope you like further updates to it :)

Hi Fixxerdot, yeah that was a bug. The entire update had several issues, however they've been fixed now, and a new build was released about an hour ago. Once it updates, the scenarios should be fine.

you'll want to go for the small rover. But more importantly, research instruments. That will make more missions available. -
Hey guys, yeah there was a major mess up in the update yesterday. We're fixing it right now - fix coming today.

Hello! Yesterday my probe first landed on Mars
dram replied to Mirtma65's topic in TAKE ON MARS - GENERAL
Hi! Thank you so much, we are really glad when people enjoy the game :) With the addition of the manned section, it should be even more interesting. -
Hello everyone! In support of last week’s Workbench update, today we launched a series of mod-making video tutorials for Take On™ Mars. Titled ‘Mars Mod-Maker's Manual (M4)’, the video series aims to help people get started with creating additional or new content for Take On Mars, using the game’s Workbench editing suite. The first chapter - Data Structure & Modifications – kicks off with an explanation of where Take On Mars looks for its data, and how it can be modified. The fact that Take On Mars itself started as a mod for Carrier Command: Gaea Mission explains a lot about the dedication of this team to modding and user content creation. While we’re still adding new content to the game ourselves, with a really cool announcement coming up next week, we’re looking forward to see how other people experiment with the tools used to develop Take On Mars. The Mars Mod-Maker's Manual (M4) should form an excellent starting point. More chapters in the ‘Mars Mod-Making Manual’ series will be released over the course of the next few months – starting with the second chapter about addons, mods and total conversions. Kind and sincere regards from the Dev team, Martin Melicharek (Project Lead)

Hey LODU, Just to clarify, this is not the same engine that Arma 3 uses, so assets have to be exported differently. That said, Carrier Command Gaea Mission is the game previously built on this engine, and had ocean, trees, etc. This means yes, you can add many trees.

Glad to hear it! Expedition One will keep to the style of TKOM, so the storyline is mostly your own. Hmm, did you start up in developer mode or normal mode? I'm not talking about build here, but in the loader itself, if you chose the play game with developer mode. In developer mode achievements are disabled.

As the project is early access, the content will be added progressively. So expect an update soon with an early version of the human being and base building :) Heh, interesting, something similar is actually what we have planned.

Hey guys, The Take On Mars soundtrack is available for free download here: http://mars.takeonthegame.com/downloads It consists of the 5 in game tracks. Enjoy!
-
Hehe, quite resourceful :) Nicely done.

No problem, glad to help :) COLOR means you need to use a color camera to take the picture. FAR means you are too far away from the targets and either need to move closer, or zoom in (if the camera can zoom). You can do that, but you're better off researching the soil probe instrument (it is before the scoop, so it is easier to get).
