  1. Right, okay I get what you mean now. Strange though, my GPU is the most up-to-date part of my build, I was certain it would be the CPU that was the weak part.
  2. Sorry, I'm not knowledgable on a lot of PC things, what exactly is a VGA? Googling it gives me images of my monitor cable? Alright, hang on a sec, I thought my system was better than this and that it was pretty much just the CPU that was the problem. Let me post my specifications again. So which part, or parts, of this build is the reason for such bad FPS with lots of units around? I was under the impression the GPU was relatively decent, and that it was the CPU that was the issue, but now you're saying even with a new CPU the problem would persist? So what do I need to remove and replace with a new purchase to improve things?

    OPFOR too Futuristic?

I think their uniforms do look a bit 'out there'. To be honest, it's basically their helmets that I hate the most, the giant ant eyes for goggles they wear just look ridiculous! I doubt anything will change now though, so I know I'm going to have to accept them. I'm not sure there will be 'many', there's blufor (US/NATO), Opfor (Iran) and Independents (Rebels/Smugglers), so that's three.
  4. Right, so you're saying buying a brand new CPU would solve the problem of poor FPS with lots of units about.
  5. Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit (6.0, Build 6002) - Service Pack 2 System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. System Model: Dell XPS420 BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A06 Processor: Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz (4CPUs), ~ 2.33Ghz Memory RAM: 3326MB RAM Page File: 1960MB used, 4919MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows Direct X version: DirectX 11 Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce GTX 560 DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Display Memory: 2385 MB Current Display Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz) 278 GB free HDD space I've purchased the alpha, and when I'm in the editor with just a single unit to test my graphics out, my FPS is very fluid, and my settings, by default, are set mostly to high, with FXAA Standard, and most of the other options checked to be on and any settings are basically on high, apart from shadows which I've put to standard. Now in the Arma3 Alpha editor previews, when I just have a single unit, this is fine, my FPS is very fluid and perfectly playable while still having great graphics. Switch over to the aircraft/helicopter showcase mission and my FPS plummets, it's essentially unplayable and lowering my settings dramatically doesn't seem to fix it. I'm thinking the problem is the CPU, in that it's just too old and not powerful enough to display numerous units on screen, so would anyone suggest that I should aim to purchase and install a new CPU? I'm thinking the FPS is plummeting because the CPU can't handle all the units and vehicles in-game at one time? Sorry, I don't know too much about computer hardware, I've read that the CPU is what manages how many things can be displayed on screen in a fluid way.
  6. Yeah...we're the brats.

    They better have female soldiers...

That must be why men have been used as the majority, if not the complete majority of every fighting force in history...
  8. I've never been able to get custom music working for ARMA2, but for my current campaign I'm working on it's crucial that I do. 1. I have an .ogg file called 'MiriamMakeba.ogg'. 2. I have made a new folder called 'sounds' in the mission 'Home_Sweet_Home'. 3. MiriamMakeba.ogg has been placed in the sounds folder. I have a 'description.ext' file and inside I have this script: 4. I have a trigger set to 'Civilian' 'Present' and in the 'OnAct' box I have this: I load in-game and get the message:
  9. Did you make that red foliage in the first picture? It's amazing!

    They better have female soldiers...

If we get to the campaign and your squad consists of the usual bunch but with a 'sassy strong female in a man's world' type, then I'll go straight to the editor, maybe they can have her punch a fellow squad mate for 'ogling' her... you know....just to show how 'strong' and 'feisty' she is.

    England 'Riots'

It was like Blackhawk down last night! Got to admit I was annoyed when Boris Johnson finally arrived, got in front of the microphone, and then wasn't allowed to speak because people were shouting him down as a 'racist'. Give me a break.

    ARMA 3, E3 Coverage (reveals)

To those worried about the animations of the units looking exactly like those in ARMA2 and OA, then don't worry because that's what they are, but that is only temporary according to the devs in one of the videos.

    ARMA 3, E3 Coverage (reveals)

Oh dear....did anyone notice the ragdoll at 1:49, he shoots the guy once and he jumps into the air about 5 feet! I hope they fix that. It's vital in a game like ARMA3 that the ragdoll is as realistic as possible, judging from that video they're far from it, but I have hope, I'm sure BIS will fix it by next year. :)

    Opfor discussion?

Hopefully the troops we've seen so far are only special forces troops. I do agree that right now the game doesn't look so much like 2020 as it does 2070. Hopefully the regular opfor troops will still be using Aks and wearing modest gear. I mean look at the Ak itself, invented during the 40s and widely in use today, there's no reason it won't still be widely in use 12-20 years from now. I know, I know...Sci Fi...

    PhysX

Yes let's just not improve the next installement at all.... In fact, let's just simply make this ARMA2 with new models. How someone can argue against character physx is beyond me...
  16. Why do you think this is? What did OFP do to give you this impression that ARMA1+2 didn't?
  17. I see. I think one thing that OFP did amazingly well, that ARMA1 and ARMA2 didn't do well unfortunately, was creating a realistic speed for units to fall to the ground when shot. When you shot an enemy in OFP they hit the ground quickly and realistically. There were almost no slow motion type deaths and the movements were fluid. In ARMA1/2 the unit deaths are way too hollywood style. When you shoot a unit they should drop to the floor hard, not slowly fall to the ground. I'll have a look around for some videos to use as an example.
  18. Weren't you the one who was arguing that it was bad the birds could be shot? Or is that all sarcasm?
  19. From now on, no one say what they think can be improved! Smile and nod and pretend everything couldn't be better!
  20. One of the major things that always bugged me about ARMA and ARMA2 was that when a plane/jet/tank/vehicle was destroyed, more often than not it simply morphed into a black version of itself, like this... I've always wanted BIS to make crashes damage the vehicle more like these... Obviously I'm not saying that vehicles don't catch fire and burn, but it's annoying in ARMA and ARMA2, when you shoot a jeep for example and all of a sudden it just goes 'poof' and instantly turns black and into the destroyed model. I'd like to be able to have more crashes, especially in Helicopters, where I know that the minute the chopper starts to go down, I don't need to restart the game because it's likely going to be a 'black poof' death. I'd like to see helicopters surviving crashes more often, and seeing the survivors and casualties still inside the chopper instead of them just vanishing when the chopper goes into 'destruction' mode. Operation Flashpoint did this and I was really happy about it, they still had the black damage models, but they kept the units visible even after this happened, so I could still see the people killed inside the vehicle instead of them just vanishing the moment the vehicle is destroyed, which kills immersion.

    They better have female soldiers...

I'm not having an argument, I'm having a discussion... I'm not sure where you get the 'only' part from? There are many reasons why women on the battlefield are a detriment, in fact a female friend of mine (who dreams of joining the Royal Marines) was telling me how she understands why she isn't allowed to fight on the frontlines as a marine because the presence of a woman, like someone else pointed out in this thread, is liable to affect the way the male soldiers would react in the event of her being wounded. Like another user said, men have a biological impulse to drop what they're doing and help women who are in danger. So you're saying that soldiers fighting the Taliban would fair just as well fighting say, the Chinese and Russian armies in open combat? Seriously...? Why couldn't it be? Why is it so hard to believe? So many nations? Name some nations, apart from Israel, that are actively stationing female soldiers on the frontlines in combat roles?

    They better have female soldiers...

That's a woman? Looks like a guy to me. The thing with Australia allowing women on the front lines in combat roles, is that they aren't facing an opposing army consisting of Jets, tanks, submarines, entire navies, and hundreds and thousands of well trained men. If they were, then women would most likely start to demonstrate why they are detrimental to a unit on the battlefield.

If you could decide the author of A3 campaign

Whoever played the most part in making the Cold War Crisis campaign I guess. :)
  24. The problem with ACE and ACRE is that immediately after they were made, it made BIS using them extremely difficult without looking like complete thieves. :raisebrow:
