Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
Herbal Influence replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I hope it is for you can't game/post that a lot. :-) I know what you mean, but in my opinion it's adding bad (2D monitor) to bad (Crosshair) = worse (2D monitor + Crosshair). But at last I am obviously the most deranged BIS gamer: I am quite sure that 3rd view is more realistic than egoshooterviewmode and not at all a cheat (broad discussion on that here. And I am also quite sure that crosshair is spoiling my immersion immensely. :-) I don't say that to be unique. I know (read it somewhere) I am not. ;-) -

How you talk about my best friends, mate? I dunno about your AIs but mine do just fine --- they seek, they move rapidly, fight intensely, take cover ... and at last ... sure they are not perfect. That makes them so human ... :)

Devs please note

Welcome to this community of posters that you say, won't like! ;-) Welcome to your new experience not just being a lazy "consumer" but a part of the active gamemaking and the community. I know what you mean at last. It's really hard and you are right that there is - though I know Murrays Guide - a big lack of structured-easy-to-read info. It's all done by amateurs not profis and you often feel like getting stones instead of help. But I want YOU to write that easy-guide for this immensely complex game. For you are the one who knows all that the amateurs just forgot: How hard it is to make the first own missions, models etc. ... ;-)) -
Secondary Monitor as Map
Herbal Influence replied to ZeosPantera's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I am missing the point of using freetrack as an real advantage too. Simply because using freetrack instead of TrackIR you automatically have the money for the two other monitors for look left and right. Whereas you don't have that money when you use TrackIR. ;-) -
ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx
Herbal Influence replied to mattxr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Generally AIs it seems are much more responding and quicker acting than some betas before. Getting more and more fun to do the big crcti 09 - while I am waiting for Benny to do his real big crcti he lately announced. (I really need waypoints for tactical gaming ... ;-)) -
Arma 2 won't recognize TrackIR 5!!
Herbal Influence replied to maronkoman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Sounds like as if you would have to get the money together first. ;-) Perhaps try freetrack in the meantime? (search forum, there's a lot of info) -
Friend cannot find my internet game
Herbal Influence replied to Flash Thunder's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Maybe there the same fault I seen in the German version (and it still exists in the betas.) If you hit "lock" server it gets open and vice versa. Simple wrong button description ... -

Herbal Influence replied to Flesh-Hound's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Do you use two different copies of Arma2? Maybe server checks the IDs of the game and doesn't allow running copies. -
ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
Herbal Influence replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The game needs good hardware not for no reason. Check here. To call it "terribly programmed" .... if I would be a developer from BIS I would really get angry about such posts. -

I know it's a bit OT: but please someone explain "Vanilla game" for me like anfiach above used it? I simply found this term again and again but don't understand what it is ... my BIS games don't have a smell at all .. sniff, sniff ... nothing .. what is it? ---------- Post added at 15:43 ---------- Previous post was at 15:39 ---------- While I don't care people to discuss topics - why should I? - I personally don't like crosshairs at all. Simply because they are unrealistic ... but at the same time I like 3rd view very much - simply to me it's much more realistic than the egoshooterview with quite a big and unrealistic loss of field of awareness. Find the discussion on that here. So I personally would like a high realistic mode with no crosshairs but 3rd view on. -

No serious issues found until now. I am happy. Immense thanx for caring personally, Maruk. -
It's not BIS's fault there's not 100,000 playing Arma2

I like Arma2 chewing ressources though I have not the best rig. I like the outcome of this chewing. It's brilliant. And don't forget something: Because of the community staying quite small for good reasons (complexity of game e.g.) you have the chance to meet a lot of people in a more interesting, more intense way: We need each other! ;-)) And another aspect: IF (!) Arma2 or Arrowhead gets really successful in terms of selling numbers there will be the big danger of what I call "bored money" to come around the corner i.e. investors that like to buy an enterprise, hype its products with money they get from banks, produce a lot of hot air with fetish-glamour-sparkling marketing and ... after that ... leave the whitelicked bones behind them. One day we will have frustrated our beloved BI developers so much by our steady critic ("BUG ! BUG !! Hanging with parachute in tree - how comes BI didn't patch THIS most important BUG BUG BUG !!) that they will give in to an investor who promise to give them 10 Mio. Dollars and just let him make ... not to mention the obligatory contract clause which steals the name ... the brains ... the community and guarantees the investor his profit within at most 3 years ... at that time we all will be happy to have our copies at home on dvd for our nice memories. -

I feel so comfortable with AI driving issue. If I have to drive a greater distance I do sit back in behind, smoking a cigarette, while my AI drives properly through heavy terrain. He doesn't drive as fast as I could, but properly and I need a pause sometimes. Sure, if you do a setup of quite a lot vehicles it might be too much for any living cpu. But that's what I like about BIS games: open ends. -
In this discussion I am missing one aspect of this all: Flying a flag in an everyday and closely living community maybe means that I do stick a button on all their breasts. At least it could be so - none of us knows and none of us posters here did ask for this. How tall is that flagpole? How big is the flag? Does it stand separate? Is it possible to recognize that only one special person is flying the flag or does it seem the whole community of owners is flying the flag? What about the freedom of those who oppose 'states flag flying' for good reasons? What about living in an appartment "under that flag" if it's a communists, an anti-abortion flag or even homosexual-flag over your appartement? Each of this persons could have earned a lot honors for mankind too. If you aren't able to imagine what that could be, but only can think in terms of military-like-honors - should that be his or your problem? But you would feel a bit uneasy under their flag? You sure would. A flag is a symbol. And for many it's kind of holy thing. For the one who flies the flag it mostly is. It's a symbolists action. You want to express yourself with it. But you can't ask others to do the same. Each his own flag. In a free country. In a free world.

Yeah, tested the mission. And my AIs didn't feel easy after they shot the OPFOR soldier. They didn't advance (run before me), but hesitated in a somewhat secure or combat mode - moving very hesitatingly and slow. This, though I told them to be easy, advance and me running towards the dead OPFOR soldier ... Seems they have mental problems with killing .. ;-) ps. I didn't check this before - maybe it was in it before? Newest Beta is fine for me. Tested it several hours. -

Funny - for all those who like a steep learning curve: It took me no penny to get it working - basically. 1. I still have a very old (2003) Aiptek PenCam lying 'round - somewhere. 2. Downloaded freetrack software and hit setup.exe. 3. started Arma2 - newest beta. 4. searching for a lightsource .... found a pen with inbuild white led on top sticked it behind my ear, LED showing to monitor and webcam Worked immediately ... !! That's it ... ;-)))) -

Installing missions onto Arma 2

Beware that there are two folders where you may find them: 1. programs/Bohemia Interactive/Arma2/mpmissions or /missions 2. owndocuments/YOURNAME/Arma2/mpmissions or /missions -
Or it could say on the box: "For mature gamers only. Social skills, including natural empathy, required."

A recent study broadly published - at last in Germany today - checked inhowfar humanitarian rights are "violated" "virtually" by computergames. http://www.trial-ch.org/games.html (deutsch italiano english francais) Golem (German) My vote: Please BIS try to stay at the leading edge - also in this regard! With phantasy you can modify things to make the game more real and (!) and more human. Only one example: Wounded soldiers should at a certain degree no more be able to shoot and should also not be killed by gamers without losing points or degree etc. I would be a proud member of the community if BIS would take into account reality in terms of humanitarian rights and needs. My vote is NOT against the freedom of the game. I do not want to restrict anything - let modders be free to do what they like.

Demolish of body parts [Feature request to BIS]

I would recommend to continue/concentrate this - my personal opinion: disgusting - discussion over those subjects here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=91042 or here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=89726 And perhaps BIS should open a general thread for this under the subject: "Adult Non-Tactical Feature Requests" -

Herbal Influence replied to DevilBass's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I remember some postings about the loss of it a few month (or should I say: patches?) ago. There were rumours about it being withdrawn to enhance FRAPS .... They will come back I think later on. They are important for tactical gameplay for me.
