God rays are pretty rare, not something you'd see in mid day. And for the performance overhead they cause, they're not really worth it. But it would encourage soft shadows, which is something I'd wish they'd add.

Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | Discussion HERE!
Windexglow replied to SASrecon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
A river? I hope the AI can figure out how to cross it, instead of "Oh, let's all just swim across if (if that) and lose all our equipment. While under fire." -
Who has reached the boundary in AmrA2?
Windexglow replied to ffur2007slx2_5's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Skybox follows player, so you'll never reach the end of it. Once you get out of terrain, the game begins to do things procedurally (x,y and via complex equations, it returns new terrain height) which will extend to "infinity". To be as anal as possible, you'll eventually reach a limit where the computer can't deal with the massive numbers anymore as nothing is infinite in computers. -
How many people playing Operation Arrowhead online?
Windexglow replied to joeshmoe's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I've never liked arma2's online - there are a handful of occasions where I found a great group doing coop and had a blast. Than there's the rest (99%) when no body talks, there' s a teamkiller, and everybody is doing their own thing. It just takes too much time and effort for me to get into the online mode, thank god for zeus AI. -
Tried the Jarhead sound mod? Can't play without it anymore http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=104514

Performance ramifications of various mods
Windexglow replied to Psycho78's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Games are pretty good about loading only the bare minimum needed to play. So if there's no need to have something in memory - it probably won't be in there. -
Just got done playing after being pinned down behind some dirt for 5 minutes. I have to say, the bullet impacts seriously make it harder to stand up compared to when they aren't there - I actually got scared :p I of course died after trying to run away, but that's besides the point.

There are a tons of moments that I've seen a RPG come flying right at me. It's hard to explain, but you almost freeze up.

Heading off to school, but I remember a topic on the forum that did exactly what you want. There's a file in your docs/arma2 that holds vert/hori fov values. He gave a quick tutorial how you measure your monitor to give a 'real' fov. Pretty cool, need to do it again

haha oh wow your so cool Best suggestion is to wait for a sale of some kind. Newegg, amazon, and a multitude of other sellers occasionally have rebates or plain old sales for games.

Been loving jarhead, first sound mod that has had extremely consistent quality. And it's made with OA in mind. :D

No grass but high terrain resolution?
Windexglow replied to dmarkwick's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The problem with higher resolution terrain is it takes ^2 more memory to half distance between vertexes. So for optimizations sake, you'd need to reduce terrain complexity at longer ranges. Which can hide (or show) figures you shouldn't see. Arma2 needs to do something about terrain, yet there aren't a whole lot of solutions towards it. -
Re-read instructions, it'll tell you how by modifying a file. For me, I'd turn Post-Processing totally off, or at least on the lowest. Bloom makes it feel like I have chlorine in my eyes, DOF isn't especially pretty and SSAO isn't terribly noticeable. Take things slow, in some cases sacrifice your men to the gods by sending them in first. You aren't a 1-man army, always have a plan to back up.

I'm loving the ground impacts - maybe I just never noticed them before. http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/7749/arma2oa2010082811313524.jpg

Shadows have always been odd in this game. Some feel soft, others feel like they're still stencil. Some shadows don't even move when they should (bicycle wheels)

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=89970 Zeus AI - you'll need to get it through sixupdater for the latest version. AI are no longer suicidal (let's run to the middle of a road, lay down, shoot twice, stand up run a bit closer, and shoot again), they actively seek cover when in a firefight, flank, and will even go inside buildings. I've seen them pass windows on a second floor building while sniping before. Can't play without it.

Clean and simple, great image Force.

Zeus AI Combat Skills
Windexglow replied to Protegimus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I can not play arma without this mod - I love how the AI don't die as quickly (Hey, let's prone in the middle of the road, stand up, than go prone again after moving 2 feet!) and actively seek cover. In one case I saw an AI going through a building. Simply fantastic -
Terrain/Cutoff Fog - making it transition slower?
Windexglow posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I play at 3-5k (3k if I'm in a town) but one thing that has constantly irked me is that flawless view, than a giant cloud of smog at the edge of it. Would it be possible to have the fog's transition begin sooner (500m?) and end at the appropriate cutoff distance? Sort of acting as a haze, I haven't found any options for this -
..if you explore the chernarous forests long enough you'll find bigfoot?
-
All you've given us is "screen is blurry" and nothing else. We don't know if the monitor is doing it, if it's ghosting from graphics card, if 3d resolution isn't up ectect. But until they're posted I'm going to presume he's trolling us.
-
Provide some pictures, it's hard to fix a problem aside from "it's blurry".
