  1. Dispersion is a separate issue. In fact, more realistic recoil should allow for more realistic (reduced) imposed dispersion. The recoil system will not make you miss an aimed shot. And regarding not needing to reaim after firing a shot in a good prone position, that is not true. The target may remain in the sight picture, but you are still going to have to aim that second shot, even in the best slinged-up tight prone position. This is what happens in the game. It is very easy to keep a target in the sight picture during rapid prone fire. You just have too decide if you want very rapid area fire on the target or slower deliberate aimed fire.
  2. I think maybe the sound was recorded from a different position than the camera, or its levels are just a lot lower than the rest of the video. Sounds like shots heard with ear protection on.

    New Behavior Mode: CHARGE

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could just order human beings to stop being afraid? That said, i agree there needs to an order to break contact that would allow a unit to withdrawal quickly under fire.
  4. Something very odd about the sound in that vid...
  5. Yup. Mentioned at least twice in this thread already.
  6. Added three more: 10. CRV7-HEDP has little to no area effect. It seems to only have effect with a direct hit to a vehicle/object, and only on that target. HEDP warhead should have a blast radius of 10m with potential lethality from fragments to 55m. CRV7-PG seems to have same performance. On the other hand, CRV7-FAT is devastating against infantry in the open, which is also wrong. FAT is Flechette Anti-Tank and contains 5 solid penetrator flechettes. It should not be an effective area weapon against soft targets due to low density of projectiles. Perhaps the effects are simply switched, or perhaps the devs actually intended FAT to be GPF (General Purpose Flechette) rounds, which contain 80 flechettes and are very effective against area soft targets. Regardless, HEDP is broken. 11. Gunner/pilot command and targeting systems on the Wildcat are all screwed up and impossible to use effectively. For starters, pilot can magically self-designate and guide the CRV7-PG rockets all on his own, leaving the gunner just along for the ride. If gunner is also commander, controlling pilot engagement is a nightmare. Whenever the LD is active and acquired, pilot will fire rockets continuously, but will also move about wildly, causing the LD to swing off targets and rockets to spray all over the place. Control of the PG munitions needs to be taken away from the pilot and given to the gunner. Pilot should have unguided control of rockets when switching to manual fire. Pilot should always have control of cannon and should move to engage with cannon if given a target. Gunner should be able to laser designate any point, fire a single rocket and have it guide to target on the LD point actively controlled by the gunner. Ideally, LD point would also lock camera to that spot on the ground so targets can be engaged while the helicopter is moving. 12. CRV7 rockets have barely audible firing sound on the Apache AH1 (Wildcat is normal).
  7. As noted above, something is wrong with the L110A1 (C9 is Canadian Minimi). It does not behave the same as the near identical OA M249, and even less so than the Arma2 M249 (which is the same as pictured in the video). Note that the Para versions weigh less and have shorter barrels, so they should have somewhat more recoil than the standard M249, but there is no explanation for the difference between the Brit and US Para Minimis in the game. Also interesting to note that there are several shooters in that video and you can see significant differences in the amount of barrel movement amongst them. Apparently the gun doesn't do it all for you. Anyways, shooting like that is perfectly possible with the M249 in Arma2.
  8. I love people who repeat this ad nauseum like they are true wits who will confound us all. It is the ultimate wargame/simulation reductio ad absurdum. Unfortunately it provides no basis for constructive discussion and is therefore the equivalent of spam.
  9. More nonsense exaggerations. Just sprinted 200m with M4A3 CCO, then dumped half a mag at my feet to get suppression effect, then crouched and aimed at 200m pop-up targets. After each shot the sight came to rest one width of the red dot (at full zoom) higher than the position of the red dot before the shot. So that is what, 6 to 8 moa higher, i.e. between 1-2 feet at 200m Tried same with the M4A3 ACOG and aiming at the belly/waist of the pop-up at 200m, the sight was still on the target (left shoulder) after I took the shot. The other thing you need to keep in mind is having a linear component to the recoil that is stronger than the random component (and there is some of that) allows the player a role in controlling the weapon. You need to stop thinking of downward mouse movement as solely pulling the barrel down, but also as properly holding the weapon and pulling it into your shoulder. And yes, this does mean that skill and practice can play a role, where with a truly random dispersion system every player would just be running around holding the mouse down and firing a fixed cone of dispersion. Went ahead and did a few more tests with a "higher" recoil weapon, the AKM. No problem delivering two rapid shots onto a pop-up target at 100m while standing (yes the second shot hit before the target even fell). That is outstanding performance for an AK.

    Zeus AI Combat Skills

This came up in another thread: are the zeus recoil files meant to be used with the new recoil system in 1.54?
  12. Not really a bug. They just didn't give them new animations for bullpup rifles. ---------- Post added at 11:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:36 PM ---------- 2 more to add: 8. L85A2 AWS 800m zero is way off (to the high side). 9. L110a1 (British M249 SAW) has strange behavior and is not in line with the near identical US Army SAW. Prone recoil is okay, although it seems to have an excessive downward component at the end of firing. Crouched and standing recoil pulls the gun very strongly upward and right in a way that is impossible to control, but only if you are not moving. Several problems here: A heavier gun firing the same cartridge as a lighter gun should not have more recoil, yet compare the L110A1 crouched/standing to the M4A3 on full auto in the same positions. Identical US M249 SAW does not show the same behavior. The very pronounced upward component goes away if you are simultaneously moving while crouched/standing, with the gun behaving more like the M249 fired standing still crouched/standing.
  13. Well, instead of whining about it in general, we could all make bug reports where there are specific inconsistencies. (Although I did check the Sa-58 CCO and it was fine. It had somewhat more recoil than the M4A3, but that is as it should be.) Here is one I have found and will report as a bug. The new L110a1 (British M249 SAW) has strange behavior and is not in line with the near identical US Army SAW. Prone recoil is okay, although it seems to have an excessive downward component at the end of firing. Crouched and standing recoil pulls the gun very strongly upward and right in a way that is impossible to control, but only if you are not moving. Several problems here: 1. A heavier gun firing the same cartridge as a lighter gun should not have more recoil, yet compare the L110A1 crouched/standing to the M4A3 on full auto in the same positions. 2. Identical US M249 SAW does not show the same behavior. 3. The very pronounced upward component goes away if you are simultaneously moving while crouched/standing, with the gun behaving more like the M249 fired standing still crouched/standing. Same way enabling auto-aim simulates aiming the rifle. :p
  14. Added the following: 7. Laser rangefinder reading displayed in open air gunner view of Stryker MC. Come on people. Not one person can take the time to confirm any of these?

    155mm artillery and 120mm mortar

Stryker MC should be a 120mm, but looks and sounds like 81mm impacts to me.
  16. Sorry, no. The totally unrealistic recoil system has been a chief complaint for years. The old system was far too easy, unrealistic, and unbalanced the game. The fact that you are relying on gross exaggerations to make your point probably underlies what was so wrong with the old system. I just sprinted 200m with the m24 then took a standing shot at a target 800m away. The target remained well within the field of view of the scope. That is really quite generous in comparison to real life. Why don't you just turn auto-aim on?
  17. Great vid. Quick question: I notice that the Wildcat 20mm has some great impact sounds. Are these stock or did you add your own? Since I updated to 1.54/BAF, auto-cannon impacts/explosions (like Wildcat, Warrior, Bradley, etc.) are either missing or barely audible, and I'm wondering if it is just me. Also, the explosion sounds in general are awesome and have great distance effects, but them seem off on their distance scaling for volume. To take an example from your video, the SPG/RPG round that you take a direct hit from sounds a few hundred meters away. Not much sense of "shell shock" when HE is delivered very close to the player.

    BAF bug report

There are two circles, one for minimum range and one for maximum, but the maximum does not show on the map for MLRS "far" missions.
  19. Maybe the old recoil system should be an option for the Recruit difficulty level, along with auto-aim (since it basically functioned as auto-reaim).
  20. Perhaps they gave it 120mm HESH as a consolation prize for not getting the Challenger 2. :) If someone can confirm each one, I will do so. If bug reports need consolidating, shouldn't be here in the troubleshooting forum? I don't care either way, but that is up to the mods.
  21. Here is the list of western rifles that should have field zeroing: US Army M107 M107 TWS M110 NV Scope M110 TWS M24 Desert Mk17 Sniper Mk17 Sniper SD M249 TWS USMC DMR M107 M24 M40A3 Mk12 SPR Arma2 Special Weapons XM8 Automatic Rifle XM8 Sharpshooter (just a guess on these two) Takistan FN FAL AN/PVS-4 (actually should have a BDC reticle, but does not) Arma2 Guerilla CZ 550 For the eastern rifles, I'll either have to keep researching or defer to someone with more practical knowledge of their use in the field.
