I have it on PC, Steam, buying iMac 27

Well I forgot I had an extra warranty on my PC laptop so it is in the shop. It plays Arma 2 pretty good too. If it comes back OK I will beef of the Ram to 8 and be rockin again. My trusty old Mac G4 powerbook is still chuggin away for doing music. Maybe I'm not in such a state. One day I will get a new Mac (when they improve them a bit) and a monster PC for gaming, mainly Arma n Mount & Blade. Ya gotta have a dream, heh, heh. Thanks for all the idea's. Happy ARMAing.

    ARMA 2, version 1.09 - Patch Released

For the above reason I think I will stand pat with my 107 version. Seems fine. (Had my struggles with Steam, un-installed the whole setup.) Now I play Arma 2 from a boxed version, fixed all my problems. Playing on Vista 64, Toshiba X300 laptop. Thanks BIS, best game ever. EVER !

Such great information and opinions guys. Thanks a lot. I am glad I didn't rush into anything yet. Funny thing, last night I took my PC Toshiba x300 laptop wiped it with a clean install, DID NOT load Steam (having many troubles logging in, Arma crashes) Bought a boxed copy of Arma 2, so far works perfect (fingers crossed). It amazes me that this laptop can play Arma 2 so smoothly and the setting are pretty high. I hope it doesn't crash to black again. Playing it again in it's sparkly wonder makes me want a smokin PC, I'm out of date on specs but maybe a Radeon HD $400 cards, forgot the number, would be nice in a rig. I'm in Canada so we pay more for that stuff. You guys got me thinkin and re-thinking. Thanks again, and a Macbook Pro IS nice, better vid card too I believe, but still is pricey here. The 15 is $2000 I believe. Thanks Pals.
  4. I just quit Steam completely. Used it first to get Arma 2, worked good, got 2 expansions, worked for a while. Then last week major problems logging in Arma 2 would go black. Last night it I never could log in at all. Went out n got a new boxed version of Arma 2. They got their 100 bucks outa me, never again. Garbage. I will buy all the Arma 2 boxed stuff I can find. Never anything from Steam. Even though THEY have my games, I uninstalled Steam. Arma is great. I will not be held hostage. Cheers.

Before I get lambasted over n over. Just to be clear. My PC laptop, Toshiba X300 is dying. I also do MUSIC on an old mac G4 using Pro Tools. It is out of date. I was asking because if a maxed out iMac 27 i7 with 8gig mem with a full new version of Windows 7 running bootcamp works...then I kill 2 birds with one stone. I can't afford both. I would love to have a PC for gaming but Music comes first. Arma 2 is my fav PC game, also Mount n Blade but I just wanted to confirm that it will/could work. It's hard to get straight answers on bootcamp. If it IS a true PC Windows environment (NOT emmulated) then everything even Steam should work. I bought a boxed copy of Arma 2 today just to have one safe. I have 3 copies of Arma 1 and 1 copy of Op Flashpoint. Whew. Thanks for the tips n info. I am just kinda worried about the graphics card in the iMac. I wish you could upgrade like I would do on mem and the i7. ---------- Post added at 04:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:29 PM ---------- yea, you're right about the cpu eh ? They should be more upgradable when you order. Mac's are solid though, my old G4 laptop has been a tank over the years. Still works but ya can't add anything to it. My Toshiba cost a fortune and lasted just over 2 years, sad, played Arma great surprisingly. I wonder about NEW 2011 iMacs, they should beef it up. ---------- Post added at 04:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:32 PM ---------- OH and about music on a PC. It's just not the same. You cannot have crashes or glitches at all. Never had one on my old G4 in 5 years. I have had so many on PC, but the games rule. I hope you understand. Cheers.
  6. OK so I want to buy an iMac 27 loaded with Windows 7 n bootcamp. I have seen video's where it is playing awesome. My PC died and I do music so it would be the perfect thing. I NEED to have Arma 2/Arrowhead/British Ops working from Steam. I am really worried. Steam is great but running it PC wise on an iMac scares me. Arma 2 must be saved in this operation. Any info at all on this would be a huge relief. I have been feeling sick since my PC died. Cheers.
  7. and now I have British troops ! keep em coming. Total living world game. Cool. BB
  8. so so SO great ! Thanks Bistudio...the vibe is awesome. I played One Shot One Kill, took me forever. Lost my wingman, sorry buddy. I hid in the bushes trembling. (After taking out my Baddie target.) then I picked off a few stray dudes huntin me down. Sweet sniper rifle. then I ran like a little girl in my gelli suit ! Now i am parachuting...I'm sure this will go well. It's a freakin playground!. CHEERS TO ALL ! Bongo.
  9. I am downloading from steam as we type. Yaaaaawww ! I suck at Arma 2 but I LOVE it. It is the only PC game I really play on my Toshiba laptop. A real open world. Amazing work. Now the new environments really excites me. Love that desert look. I know I am late to the party, Shame on me! Dork. Anyway, can't wait to tell you stories of my grisly death from a 1000 yards. Cheers and happy proning ! Bongoboy.

    Demo performance versus Retail/Final?

I agree. The demo played the same as the full game. I am playing it on a Toshiba X300 laptop with Vista 64, I get 15 to 20 FPS on high-ish settings. It's a good laptop but I was surprised it is so playable. Best game ever made. Cheers. BB.
  11. Thanks to Sneak and others who helped me out. My first download purchase from Steam. No problems at all. I have a modest cable speed so it took 7 hours, did it overnight. Works perfect on my Toshiba X300 laptop w Vista 64. I get 15 to 20 frames on High-ish settings, not bad at all. The game is pure genious, I couldn't be happier with how endless it is. Man I love it. I got lost in the woods a bit already in the campaign, heh, heh, loser. Anyway, I'll buy the boxed one too. Keep it SharpShootin Boys ! BB
  12. I guess I should just get over it and download from Steam like some calm heads have suggested. I can always buy a boxed version later. I am worried about Steam but I guess because I have always supported BIS I should not get pissy over a delay of the retail version. I will get it later. Funny thing how fate works. I realize that I have 2 copies of OP Flash Game of the Year editions, 2 copies of ArmA 1, and NOW Ta-DA ! One copy of ArmA 2 off Steam and one retail. You can't say I haven't hung with these dudes over the years. Every one is a legit copy...hard to find too ! Bye the way, played a little OP Flash against my nephew the other day. Surprisingly great time ! I thought the weak graphics would dampen my vibe. Not at all...feels much like ArmA...which to me is an awesome thing. Thanks for everyones suggestions and help with us North American Disc wishers ! Cheers.
  13. Good call Sneak ! I was just coming here to type just that. Even though we have to pay twice. Is the downloading pretty solid ? I hate having hicups on a big download, I wonder how long it will take with a moderate cable connection. Oh and what if you are off-line, I hear you can still launch it ? I hope so. Cheers...Arma 2 withdrawl gamers.
  14. interesting info. Thanks.
  15. so what should we do ? Some of us really feel more "secure" having a disc copy. It may be un-founded but if I replace my computer or something, or if I can't get online, I dunno just worried about Steam. I guess whenever you sign on Steam you should have it I guess. Steam confuses me, old guy eh ? I love that it auto patches games. That is the best part. My Empire Total War has been patching like crazy. I have heard that some guys have had a download problem with Steam and then they think you didn't pay for it. I don't want those hassels. for all of us non-Steam stubborn North American ArmA fans...convince us that Steam is OK ? heh, heh. Man we can be a real pain in the.... can't we ? Cheers YO !
