In my perfect world you would be able to map most of the things in the action menu to a desired button, if you want to. There should in that case also be an option to choose what appears in the action menu and what doesn't. For example, binoculars are mapped to B (even by default I believe), so if I feel that's sufficient and the action menu option is just annoying (it is), I should be able to go to options/action menu,UI,whatever, and there I would be able to deactivate binoculars from the "shows in action menu" list, or something similar.

HiFi Novus Aevum - modular sound conversion
maxter replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thanks man. Yeah, I guess it might have to do with sound occlusion, though I can tell you that the explosion sound is just non-existant in 1st person view, while I can hear distant explosions fine. Maybe has to do with the sound of the actual rockets is "dominating" the sound when it's too close. Anyway, really appreciate you doing some testing, though I'm not sure if this is actually a problem with the mod or my settings somehow. -
HiFi Novus Aevum - modular sound conversion
maxter replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I have some minor issues with the latest version of HiFi. When firing TOW's (in this case in a Bradley from the IC-Arma mod, might/should apply to other TOW's and/or rockets as well) really close by, say just a few meters in front of me, I don't get an explosion sound unless I'm in 3rd person view. When firing farther away it's fine, I get a "distant explosion" sound, but the "really close explosion" sound just doesn't appear to be present for the TOW's. I just updated the drivers for my SB XiFi after experiencing this, with no luck. I've redownloaded and reinstalled the mod several times. And I seem to be alone with this problem... Any ideas? -
This might be a stupid question, but when using 1.19 with ACE (and the ACE config of course), do I still want to comment out the "override default sounds" line in dta/ACE/ace_clientside_config.hpp ?

I sure don't hope that will change with the skill slider, or whatever method you'll be configuring their skills with. I'm pretty sure a civilian would know that if you stick half your head over a wall you're more likely to get shot than if you don't, just as well as an elite soldier would. Just saying. Seeing different behaviors in tactics etc would be neat though, I'm all up for that.

Great stuff as always Rich. :)

If BI would postpone the game until it included everything the fans want, it would never be released.

I'd be more interested in being able to open doors etc for cover, than having the actual entering animation. As mentioned it doesn't really affect gameplay, so as long as they fix animations that actually serves a purpose (jumping over fences etc which we've already seen), I'm not complaining at all.

It's always nice to be able to turn such features off to make as many people happy as possible (unless you have to compromise a lot, but that shouldn't be the case here, just a simple toggle in the options menu should do). I personally find the wobbling really cool, judging from the videos, and though my head might not be wobbling all that much when I'm running, I think it still simulates the fact the my BODY is indeed moving, which would be difficult to animate in any other way. So yeah, I think it adds a great feeling of non-linear movement and action which I really like so far.

Word, and in this case we're (mainly) talking USMC special forces... I mean, come on. Besides, you can do a quick transition by just dropping the rifle with a regular 2-point sling as well, and if your life is in danger I can assure you that you wouldn't waste several extra seconds to put the rifle on your back.

What's the first thing you are going to do when you get ArmA 2?
maxter replied to L!nk07's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Put it on the shelf where it will have to wait until I can afford a new computer. -
I like this server alot too, I played a couple of days ago and though I'm in Europe (= slightly high ping and awkward timezone) I had a really good time (good enough to stay up until 4 in the morning. well worth it!). Will drop by again some time soon. :)

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!
maxter replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Munny, as Andersson said you'll have to install several updates for ACE. I think 1.02 is a full install, then you'll have to update to 1.03, 1.04, 1.05 and finally 1.06. Before you do this you might want to update ArmA itself, first to 1.14 and then to 1.15 beta. This is what the version numbers in the server list is referring to. I suggest uninstalling your current ACE, then update ArmA, then install and update ACE all the way to 1.6. That way the automated shortcuts for ACE should be valid and everything should work as it should. edit: Yeah, sparks50 seems to be right, 1.05 full + 1.06 update should be sufficient. Nice find. -
A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!
maxter replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Does lowplants work with ACE? If so, can it be used online as well (public servers)? My "good" old computer isn't quite fond of ACE's extra weight unfortunately, so I'm looking to gain some FPS wherever I can for online and offline play. Also, is HOME not bindable to ACE's keys? Can't find it in the ace_keys.hpp. edit: Searched around and it seems lowplants works with ACE. Will it work online though? -
Few questions relating Arma 2 being on consoles
maxter replied to 1Nightmare1's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Of course I would be no less than damn sad if it turns out the PC version is greatly simplified just because the limitations of the XBOX controls, or any other limitations for that matter. I just don't think the risk of that is very high with ArmA2, XBOX-version or not. I just hope I'll not have to eat my words later. :) -
Few questions relating Arma 2 being on consoles

COD4, L4D, Mirror's Edge, all of them run really well on my outdated PC despite being developed for the devil console as well. Also I have a feeling all of the games mentioned in the post above are indeed ported, but I may be wrong. Either way, I trust BIS on this one, and there's just no way they'll pass up an opportunity to get this released on consoles as well unless they're completely certain it will turn the PC version to shit, which it won't. We can't expect them to lose potential finances for future projects because some of us are paranoid about consoles..? -

I was under the impression that most multi-console games are parallel developed nowadays? That seems to be the case with ArmA2 as well according to that interview. -
Sure enough, I can only imagine but I reckon it'd be pretty bad? If not there's still quite a few of us with not-so-top-of-the-line systems, so even if the server would handle it I'm pretty sure alot of people would experience more client side FPS drop than what is pleasant. Hell, I have problems getting ACE running smoothly in singleplayer, and I don't think I'm alone. Also I can't say I really miss anything from ACE in IC. Possibly backpacks but, meh, limited carrying capacity just adds to the importance of the squad which is a good thing in my book. :)
-
Oh no you wouldn't... The server wouldn't handle it well at all (with our numbers, no server would). Believe me, it's a memorable experience as it is, and the mod in use works perfectly well. I've never had as fun playing a military game (including ACE) as I have in IC-ArmA. It's, it's... Hell, it's awesome. :)
